big scarry book

Your basic morning with Enzer — yogurt and fruit for breakfast, followed by books and crawling around. Ten plus hours of sleep last night, as per usual.

Milestones: Enzo has mastered the move to go from crawling to sitting.

Nanny Note: After nap we took a short walk, watched Sesame Street for a little while. We played with paper (tactile, auditory). I had an old magazine and he went to town ripping and crunching the pages. We watched some guys working out in the street. He was so fixated on them that we had to go see what all the noise was about.

Enzo was fun after work tonight — pretty mellow all evening. I fed him a jar of apples when I first walked in the door. We've been feeling like he's getting too hungry by the time we get around to eating at 6:30 or 7. After an hour or so we went back to the table for second dinner.

Lots of books tonight, including another box full from Amazon. I'm not sure what I envisioned when we we ordered Richard Scarry's Biggest Word Book Ever!, but I wasn't expected a book twice the size of Enzo. He was amazed, and spent some time crawling around on it and trying to turn the pages. Tough when you're sitting on the page you're trying to turn.

January 30, 2007

choo choo

Enzo slept in until 7:AM again. We had pancakes for breakfast, and then hung out in the lounge reading books until the nanny came.

Nanny Note: After nap we played with toys, read books, went for a walk, watched Sesame Street. We stayed in most of the day and played. He got a little grumpy and he has been a bit clingy...wanting to see me and be right by me. We tried the walking wings, but he kept complaining. I guess he isn't used to it.

Zoe's second case in the OR was canceled so she was home an hour or so earlier than usual. Plenty more books were read. By the time I got home, Enzo was a bit cranky. He fell over while I was reading to him and bumped his head on the edge of the couch, which left a mark. Ouch. Our dinner wasn't exactly relaxing, but he managed to eat some. He just seemed tired tonight, so we gave him an early bath and after some more books, he went to sleep.

Enzo's big laugh tonight was over Zoe's rendition of Little Red Caboose. He liked the "choo choo" part.

January 29, 2007

the lounge

Enzo slept in until 7:AM this morning, which was great. After a family breakfast, we spent part of the morning hanging out in the new reading lounge. Went through about 20 books.

Nanny Note: We played with Leap Frog. Sat outside for a while. After nap we took a walk, watched a little bit of Sesame Street, had lunch then played with toys. Enzo has been in a pretty good mood. He has been biting towels and pulling at his ears so watch for more teeth. We played on the swing and took another walk. After nap we played with toys and sang songs.

Enzo crawling all over the house tonight, pulling himself up on everything. Why did I ever want him to learn to crawl? After dinner, Zoe discovered the "stinkiest poop ever", apparently a result of prunes and oatmeal eaten yesterday. Zoe told Enzo he was "stinky" and he laughed. Even after the 50th time, he laughed.

Betty a little better, but still not good. Derm appt set for Thursday.

January 28, 2007

cool hand luke

Zoe made waffle batter last night, so we had a big breakfast this morning. We hung around the house after, and then took a two hour nap when Enzo took his nap. Ugh, we both needed it.

After lunch we headed over to the Metcalf's for a play date with Luke. Enzo and Luke were crawling all over the place, pawing each other in the face, and chewing on various plastic toys. On the way home, Enzo wanted to sleep so badly but we kept him up so he could have a proper nap.

While Enzer was asleep we rearranged the living room, and set up a little library in the corner for Enzo and all his books. The living room sort of looks like some adults live in this house too again. When Enzo woke up and discovered his new reading lounge, he promptly demanded to be read about 30 books.

We popped over to Whole Foods for some groceries before dinner. Enzo sat in the cart eating crisps and trying to grab item off the shelves.

Betty still not doing well. I think a return trip to the vet tomorrow.

January 27, 2007

betty bug

Enzo and I started out the morning taking Betty to the vet. Zoe met us there after rounding on a patient. Betty has some weird skin condition going on right now. Scaly scabby skin on arms and chest, and her paws are swollen and oozing. Not sure about the cause. Enzo really loved the big fish tank in the waiting room. He left his greasy little hand print all over it.

After a good morning nap, we headed out to lunch in S Pas. Zoe and I passed Enzer back and forth while we tried to eat. After lunch we went to Right Start to look for a gate for the stairs, but we couldn't find one. Enzo was busy crawling around pulling stuff off the shelves, but we managed to escape without any new toys for him.

Started to rain during Enzers second nap, so we stayed around the house for the rest of the afternoon reading books and crawling around looking for trouble. We turned on Finding Nemo to see if he was interested, but after a few minutes he was looking for a book to read. We videoed him at dinner drinking water out of a big boy cup. First he sips, then he sticks his hand in the water, then he sips, then hand in, then sip, then hand, and over and over — laughing after each gulp.

January 26, 2007

stay at home dad

The nanny needed the day off, so I stayed home with Enzo today. We had quite a day. After breakfast, we headed over to Peets for a coffee and something to eat. Enzo ate some blueberry muffin while he watched the pigeons pickup his crumbs. I also shared the salmon from my lox and cream cheese bagel.

We headed up to Borders to explore the baby book section after a bit. Enzo crawled around picking out books. We got two more Eric Carle books, and some others. He must have more than 50 books by now. Unfortunately Enzo feel asleep in the car for about 15 minutes on the way home, and that messed up his nap schedule for the entire day. He wouldn't go to sleep when we got home.

We had lunch — sweet potatoes and apples — and then headed out to Gymboree. Second week in a row I've been able to take him. Enzo had so much fun. He even met a cute little girl named Sophia. They even sort of held hands for a second! Enzo crawled through tubes and up ramps and over bumps. He stood and laughed and clapped too.

From Gymboree, we headed to the valley to see the doctor about Enzo's eczema. Enzo feel asleep in the car again. We had a quick appt and got some ointment for Enzer. Zoe was in the OR so we couldn't say Hi, even though we were right next door.

Enzo feel asleep again on the way home. When we got home, he was super mellow. I took him on a walk around 4:PM hoping he might get some sleep, but he didn't sleep. Because he got so little rest today, Zoe and I were afraid to go out to dinner, so we stayed in and had leftovers. Despite getting less than an hour of sleep all day (usu. gets 3 or 4 hours), Enzo was pretty great all day. I should stay home more often.

January 25, 2007

toad

A nice morning with Enzo. Toad-in-the-hole for breakfast, then threw the ball for the dogs. Enzo got hot in his fuzzy brown bear jacket sitting in the sun.

Nanny Note: We read the Very Quiet Cricket and The Very Lonely Firefly and played with toys. We watched a few mins of Sesame Street then took a nice walk to the park to play on the swing. After his afternoon afternoon nap we took another walk.

Enzo was easy this evening. After a big dinner, he crawled around the house. He tries to pull himself up on everything so he can stand. We spent some time sitting at the foot of the stairs spinning his wooden blocks. He was mesmerized. Enzo laughed every time Zoe sang "skip skip skip to my lou" tonight.

January 24, 2007

that's italian

Enzo slept until his usual 6:30AM this morning. Hope that keeps up. We had french toast this morning! So exciting. It's really warmed up in the last few days, so we're back to swinging in the back yard and throwing the ball for the dogs before work.

Enzo was happy to see the nanny this morning and was playing his little piano and laughing when I left for work.

Nanny Note: After nap Enzo had lunch then we went for a walk. We played with toys, swung in the swing, watched a little Sesame Street and played at Gymboree. He had a great day! He was in a good mood and played all over Gymboree. He crawled up the slide, through the tunnel, and he played with musical instruments and enjoyed looking at himself in the mirror.

I 'relaxed' with Enzo after work, and then read him about 15 or 20 books before dinner. I have some of his books memorized, but he never seems to get tired of them. Tonight he had gnocchi with red sauce just like a good little 1/8th Italian boy should.

January 23, 2007

taste of the islands

Enzo up at 5:30AM (again), so we had time to make some pancakes for him. He was very happy about that. Also every time Zoe gave him a big bite of papaya, she said "Yummm papaya, taste of the islands!", which really cracked Enzo up. Even after the 20th time. I took Enzo and the pups for a morning walk.

Nanny Note: After nap we went for a walk, then we read books. Enzo played with toys, bounced in the bouncy swing and we watched Sesame Street. Enzo fell and hit his head kind of hard today. He has been wanting to stand with out holding on to something. I put ice on his forehead and checked on him during his nap. Enzo woke up in a very good mood, and then we went for another walk.

I was late coming home today from work, so Zoe and Enzer played with pups and then with toys. No ill effects of his fall today, except a mark on his forehead. No real bump. Enzo likes grilled cheese sandwiches.

January 22, 2007

monday

Enzo was up early again this morning, and then down for his nap again early. He had a nice morning hanging out with Dee and Buzz before they left. He really warmed up to them over the last few days. I hope he'll have some little memory of them next time he sees them.

I came home around noon to grab my lunch, and Enzo was pretty upset. Just tired, I think. I could tell he'd been crying. The second he saw me, his face lit up with a big smile. I picked him up and he laughed and started babbling away. I could only stay for a minute, and when I handed him back to the nanny, he started crying again. Looking at me, like 'where are you going?'

I think he had such an intense long weekend of so much attention, he was just missing us all. We were all home when he went to sleep, and when he woke up, the whole family was gone. Broke my heart.

Nanny Note: We watched Barney for a few minutes, went for a walk, played with bubbles and read Shoo Fly Guy. After nap Enzo had a small lunch then we went for a walk. After our walk we read Maisy Takes a Bath & Maisy at the Fair. Enzo was pretty fussy today, he needed a lot of attention.

I took Enzo and the pups for a walk after work. He had a good dinner, and we sat and read some of his new books before bath and then bed.

January 21, 2007

nine months old

Nine months old today! Morning walk with Buzz and dogs today. Enzo was up up at 5:30AM this morning, so was ready for his first nap earlier than usual at 8:30AM.

Milestones: Check out those teeth! Fourth upper tooth coming in fast. Now has six teeth.

Went into Old Pas for lunch. Enzo was pretty cranky when we first sat down, but settled down after he had some lunch. He ate a bunch of random stuff &mdash salmon, egg yolk, blueberries, avocado. Pretty much eats whatever we give him now.

Found some cool new vests for Enzo in Patagonia, but resisted the urge to buy him yet another jacket type thing. He crashed for an hour when we got back from town. And then we headed out to the dog park for a bit. Watched some football and played with toys until dinner. Zoe bought some new meatballs from Whole Foods that he loved tonight.

January 20, 2007

more books

After breakfast, we went on a long walk, which Enzo loved. Zoe was at Li's baby shower most of the day today.

After Enzo woke up from first nap, we went to the valley to visit Storyopolis again. This time Enzer was in a much better mood — crawling around pulling books off the shelves and chewing on stuffed animals. Dee picked out some great new books to add to the stash, including some 'Buzzy' books.

Enzer feel asleep in the car on the way back from Studio City, and then went down for another 30 minutes in his crib. He turned the music on by himself when he woke up.

He had a great afternoon, just hanging out reading, playing, and cruising around. When Zoe came home, we gave him a quick dinner. Chris and Kala chatted with Dee and Buzz while we got Enzo ready for bed. A little struggle to get him asleep.

Zoe and I went out to dinner without Enzo for only the second time ever. It was nice, but we missed him.

January 19, 2007

africa

We slept back in the master bedroom last night, which was nerve racking. I was awake most of night expecting Enzo to wake up any minute. The dogs jumped out of bed and woke him once about 3:AM, but he was awake for only ten minutes.

We just hung out this morning, trying to get Enzo adjusted to having other people in the house. I think he is starting to warm up to Dee and Buzz, but he can difficult and gets upset when he's away from us. He sat quietly while Dee read him some books, and he gave Buzz a smile or two.

After an excellent nap, followed by a small lunch, we rushed over to Gymboree. I had Enzo down in the gym, and Zoe, Dee and Buzz watched from the balcony. There were about 12 babies there. Enzo played with smiley little baby named Zach. Enzo has crawled up the ramp and through the tunnel.

We got two more Fly Guy books from Amazon today. Thank God.

After an hour a napping, I made the bad decision to wake Enzo up at 5:PM so he didn't sleep too late. He was pretty much a crank for the rest of the night. Ate a little for dinner, but didn't want to play or read much. I couldn't get him to sleep, but Zoe swooped in to salvage the evening. We looked through Africa pictures after Enzo feel asleep.

January 18, 2007

dee and buzz

Had sort of a cranky morning today, not really happy about breakfast, but settled in once the nanny showed up. And the Tylenol kicked in.

Nanny Note: We read books. After nap we had lunch and watched Sesame Street, then we went for a walk. We played with bubbles and played in the bouncy swing. Enzo's crawling has really improved...he now crawls all over the house. After nap we took another walk up the to the park to play on the swing.

After some trickery and some serious entertainment from Zoe and Harriet, Enzo had a decent dinner of sweet potato and chicken. He seems kind of burned out on the whole ravioli thing. We'll have to find something else while we give that one a rest for a few days. Zoe read Enzo many books while I cleaned up around the house, and put him to sleep as I ran out to pick up Dee and Buzz from the airport.

January 17, 2007

sleepy

Ten and a half hours of sleep for Enzer last night. Tried using a space heater in his room, but it blew a fuse after about an hour. Sketchy. It's been below freezing during the night, and his room gets too cold. Didn't bother him last night though. Zoe had some time for family breakfast this morning. Enzo shared his toast strips with Harriet.

Nanny Note: We read books, played with toys. We watched Sesame Street, played with wagon, walking around the living room. He really wanted to stand up all day. Right before his second nap, Enzo got very fussy and was biting everything, so i gave him some Tylenol. After nap we took a walk then went to Gymboree.

Enzo back from Gymboree at about 4:30 tonight. Usually he takes a nap after but it was too late in the day to let him sleep, so we played, read and fed him dinner. He was definitely tired during dinner and pretty antsy. I took him for a quick walk around the block to settle him down, and we read books until bath time.

His teeth were bothering him again tonight. Grinding them together and rubbing them with his fingers. Poor bug. Fell asleep in about two minutes tonight.

January 16, 2007

fly guy

Nice morning with Enzo. Mellow, big breakfast. We played 'relaxing', which slays me just to think about it. So cute the things he thinks are funny.

Nanny Note: We sat out in the front yard, played with toys, looked at books (made a mess). After nap Enzo had a nice big lunch, watched Sesame Street then we took a walk to the park. We played with bubbles after we got back from park. He pulled himself up a lot today. When he is standing, make sure his feet are flat parallel.

Enzo was great today after work. Crawling around so fast now. Good dinner, with some fun sips of water from the glass. We must have read 25 books to him tonight, including Hungry Caterpillar and Fly Guy, which might have been the 200th time we've read him that one. Literally three or four times a day, and loves it every time.

January 15, 2007

mlk day

Zoe had the day off today, so we had a rare weekday family breakfast. Lots of papaya and toast today. Enzer went down for his nap early today at 9:AM.

Nanny Note: After nap we had lunch, went for a walk, watched Sesame Street. Played with bubbles, sang songs and I read Brown Bear, The Very Busy Spider and Five Little Monkeys.

The good Enzo showed up for dinner tonight. He was really relaxed and into his new favorite ravioli again. We did dinner about an hour earlier than usual which seemed to make a difference. Who knows. Slept through the night last night. Hopefully we're back on track.

January 14, 2007

sleepless in pasadena

Last night was rough. Enzo woke up crying at midnight for no reason, and just couldn't get back to sleep. We both tried a few times with no luck.

After about 90 minutes, we finally just brought him in to bed and let him sleep there for a couple hours. He woke up again about 4:AM. Zoe finally got him down in his crib at about 5:AM, and he slept for another couple hours.

I wasn't sure what to expect today with him, but he ended up having a pretty good day with two naps about the same time as usual. Our big adventure today was a trip to Whole Foods. He tried to fall asleep in the car on the way home, but I kept him up until we got home, so I could put him down in the crib.

I had to take him on an hour long walk to get him to take his second nap. He got a little fussy later in the evening, I think just getting tired. Was a crank during dinner, and didn't eat much. Zoe was supposed to be on call tonight, but got someone to cover, thank god. I hope he sleeps tonight.

January 13, 2007

storyopolis

I lowered the crib this morning before morning nap, so Enzo won't fall out when he stands up. Harder for Zoe to lean over and put him down in there now though. He seems to like it.

After morning nap we headed out to the valley to get lunch and stop by some kid stores. We grabbed a quick bite at a cheesy little Italian place. Enzo had pears, mangoes, and ravioli. Then we picked up a little Radio Flyer that Enzo can use to practice standing and walking.

Our last stop was Storyopolis, a giant kids books store, to grab some more Maisy books and a few more Eric Carle books too. Enzo was getting a little tired, so we didn't stay long, but we did get our books.

We had a good evening with Enzer. His eczema is acting up a bit. Hoping we can get it under control in the day or too.

January 12, 2007

ravioli

Enzo woke up with some crazy bed head, and was in a good mood for most of the morning. Not much of a breakfast though. It's really cold today, so we didn't spend much time outside. Supposed to be in the 20s tonight in Pasadena. Yikes.

Milestones: I discovered Enzo standing in his crib this morning for the first time with both arms hanging over the railing.

Nanny Note: We took a walk before nap. After nap we had lunch. He gets so antsy in the chair that he sort of ate while he played. Maybe he likes to eat on the go. After lunch we went to Gymboree. After Gymboree we went to visit Grandma Jean. The theme at Gymboree was rolling. Enzo rolled all the way through a tunnel today for the first time! After Gymboree we went for a walk then played with toys, and sang songs.

Enzo was grinding and scraping his lower teeth against his new upper teeth all evening. The sound gives me goosebumps. Probably still hurting him some.

He was fun after work today. At first he wasn't too interested in dinner, but after about a 20 minute break we tried round two, and gave him some ravioli I picked up at a local pizza joint. He loved it like I've never seen him love food before. He was stuffing chunks of ravioli in his mouth at an alarming pace.

After dinner he just hung out in his chair for a while and played with some toys. Zoe had Harriet in her lap. Enzo laughed every time she gave Harriet kisses. It's been a few days since we've had such a fun relaxing dinner.

January 11, 2007

present for enzo

Enzo slept in this morning until 7:AM. Managed to feed him some yogurt, but got most of it all over himself. Hung out and threw ball for dogs before the nanny came.

We got a big box today from Hawaii of papayas sent from Enzo's Aunt Mimi and Uncle JP. They need a couple days days to ripen up, and then he'll be eating them every day for a week. His favorite!

Nanny Note: Enzo looked at books (threw them on the floor). We played with toys, read the Very Hungry Caterpillar. After nap we went for a walk, played a bouncy swing, played with toys. He wants to stand alot so we have been trying to walk around ottoman and stand while holding on. Enzo was pretty fussy today. After nap Enzo played with toys, played on the swing.

Went out for sushi tonight. Enzo scarfed down two big chunks of tofu before he started to get antsy. Zoe and I switched on and off carrying him around and outside. Gave him quick both, and straight to sleep.

January 10, 2007

chicks dig me

Enzer woke up at 5:AM this morning and was cranky again. We were starting to wonder if he would be cranky forever like me, but after some tylenol, a walk and some breakfast, he turned it around and relaxed.

Apparently there was some little one year old cutie at Gymboree that was fascinated by Enzo and kept coming over to give him hugs, which he gladly accepted I'm sure. I have a feeling Enzo will have girl trouble for many many years to come. And so it begins.

Nanny Note: After a nap we took a long walk, read books. He had a small lunch, played with blocks and we watched Sesame Street. After nap we went to Gymboree. He was pretty clingy at Gymboree but we managed to play on some slides, wedges on the mats with musical instruments. He even got a bunch of hugs from a cute little girl. He has been in a great mood all day except for the car ride.

Enzo was pretty easy tonight after work. Zoe on call, so I was singing, dancing, reading, etc...on my own tonight. His teeth are definitely bugging him. He keeps reaching in his mouth and tugging on them. But he managed to hold it together, and after a long post-dinner walk, we played, took a bath, and went to sleep without incident.

January 09, 2007

blocks

Ugh. Enzo had terrible night last night. We think it's his teeth that are causing his generally crankiness the last couple days. He woke up at 11:PM and was up until about 1:AM, just sort of being fussy. I finally got him back to sleep by wrapping him up in his blanket.

He was OK this morning, but was a bit of a crank and didn't eat much breakfast. Spent some time in the swing playing with the dogs, which calmed him down for a while.

Milestones: Enzo can pull himself up from a seated to a standing position on his own now if he has something to grab on to. He's really pleased at himself when he does it.

Nanny Note: We took a walk before nap. After nap we sat outside, watched Sesame Street and ate lunch. We took a walk to feed the ducks and geese. Played in the bouncy swing. We read books, played with toys. After nap we played with Betty in the backyard and Enzo swung in the swing.

Enzo's fussiness continued tonight. He just seems really uncomfortable and impatient all the time right now. We did have a little fun when we broke out his alphabet blocks for the first time tonight. There's nothing that motivates him to crawl across the floor like a stack of blocks to knock over.

He had a light dinner before getting too torqued out to continue. Zoe put him to bed just a few minutes after his bath around 8:15. We're really hoping he sleeps tonight, and that this phase he's going through right now is over soon.

January 08, 2007

carrot stick

Enzo woke up a little early, and was a bit fussy. He had a quick breakfast and we took a family walk with the puppies, and he was fine after that. He took a monster 2.5 hour nap this morning, and had a great afternoon.

Nanny Note: Enzo woke up in a very mood [after his nap]. He ate a small lunch, we took a walk to visit the ducks and geese. The big white goose came right up to him to say hello. He played quietly with his toys, swung in the swing, watched Sesame Street. I read him Brown Bear & Goodnight Moon. After nap we went for another walk, Enzo then played in the exersaucer for a while, played with toys, sang songs like Open Shut Them....he still smiles and claps when I sing that to him. :)

Enzo continued his good mood into dinner. I was giving him carrot sticks that Zoe made last night to chew on while we waited for dinner. He probably ate eight of them. We hung out with him for a bit, and then after his bath and chugging eight ounces of milk, Zoe put him to bed.

January 07, 2007

bld

We had a great breakfast at BLD this morning. Got out of the house at 8:AM. Enzo was in great mood, and we both actually got to eat our food at the same time. He was ready for a nap when we got home.

But he just wasn't the same when he woke up after only an hour. He was fussy on and off for the rest of the day. Maybe constipated and/or new top teeth, not sure. But we couldn't completely figure him out.

We went to the grocery store and took the dogs to the casting pond and he was fine for both trips. Not too interested in lunch or dinner tonight, but we did manage to get him to eat half a jar of prunes, so we'll see what that generates in the morning.

When we put him to sleep tonight, we both felt he wasn't going to sleep through the night tonight, even though he's only woken up during the night once in the 30 days (and that was Christmas!). And sure enough he just woke up a few minutes ago, about 10:45PM. Zoe putting him back to bed right now. He's definitely not feeling well, poor little bug.

January 06, 2007

the wave

Enzo woke up a little after 5:AM this morning for the first time in months. I think he took a poop and couldn't get back to sleep. Well, I know he took a poop. After a fresh diaper and some milk we both fell back asleep on the couch until about 7:AM. Routine fun morning. Zoe home about 10 and put him straight to sleep for 2 hours.

Ate lunch at the crepe place in Old Pas. Took forever to get our stupid lunch, but Enzo hung in there with us. By the time we got home, he was ready for a second nap, which he took curled up with Zoe in the bed upstairs.

Milestones: Enzo really gave Zoe his first official kiss today, about 20 times. Also completely out of nowhere, he started waving tonight.

Enzo a little extra crazy tonight. We tried to give him some couscous, and that really sent him over the edge. Pears and mangoes, and a walk around the block, brought him back from the brink.

January 05, 2007

dog breath

Zoe didn't have to be in until 9:AM this morning, so she was able to hang out and feed Enzo his breakfast. He ate too much toast and some yogurt with fruit and cottage cheese. He was rolling around in the bed upstairs talking, and he said something that sounded like "dog breath", which cracked us up.

Milestones: For the first time, this morning we could really see his top teeth when he smiled. There are three big teeth coming in fast.

Nanny Note: We read Brown Bear, went for a walk and played with toys. After nap we had a small lunch...he wasn't too enthusiastic about eating. After lunch we walked over to visit Grandma Jean for a while. After nap we went for another walk, played on the swing and played with toys. He really loves to wrestle with pillows.

Enzo was a little fussy when I got home from work, but after a walk around the block, he settled down and was a lot of fun. He seemed bored by his usual toys, so I dumped a big pile of all his toys into his lap. He thought that was funny. He spent a long time standing against the arm of the couch tossing books around.

It took a while but he had a decent dinner. I think he's a bit backed up, so maybe not feeling like eating. After his bath at 8, he was sort of nuts for about 45 minutes — laughing, screeching, rolling around, crawling. When I finally got him dressed and put the bottle in his mouth, he was out cold in about 5 minutes. Zoe on call tonight.

January 04, 2007

papaya

Enzo is loving his papaya so much that Zoe checked in to getting some shipped from Hawaii. Turns out it costs about $10 per papaya. OK, maybe he doesn't love them that much.

Dee and Buzz back from Africa. Looked through the Flickr pics and commented how much he's changed over the last few weeks. Hard for us to see it day-to-day, but I guess he really is growing up fast.

Milestones: Enzo started to offer his crisps to Zoe when she opens her mouth. And he sort of can give kisses now too.

Nanny Note: We went for a walk before nap. We looked at books, read nursery rhymes and played with toys. Enzo played on the swing, and we played with the dogs for awhile. After lunch, we watched Teletubbies for a few minutes. I put pillows on the floor so he could work on crawling OVER uneven surfaces. After nap we played with toys, read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, then we played in the swing out back and threw the ball for Betty.

I read Enzo at least ten books before dinner tonight. His favorite today was Fuzzy Little Duckling. He reaches out and touches the fuzzy circle, and then impatiently tries to turn the page as quickly as he can. The book only has about eight pages, but he doesn't seem to care if you just start from the beginning and go through it over and over and over.

January 03, 2007

fusilli

Just a regular perfect day with Enzo. Great breakfast of strawberry yogurt, bananas and papaya. Swinging in the back yard in the warm morning sun. Enzo loves to lean all the way forward and watch ground and dogs beneath him. Kicked off his socks three or four times today too.

Nanny Note: Enzo played with his toys, we sat outside, we watched Sesame Street and went for a walk. We played with bubbles and played on the swing.

Enzo was fun after work today. I hung out with him while Zoe ran to the store. He was really in to Brown Bear tonight, anxiously trying to peak at the upcoming page as I began to turn it. Big dinner of all sorts of things including some fusilli with parmesan cheese. Perfectly executed dinner, bath and bed time tonight. Zoe put him down without even a whimper right at 8:30 after some rolling around and catch and a story. Ten hours of sleep ahead. He'll be up at exactly 6:30AM

January 02, 2007

back to work

Zoe and I both home a little early after work tonight. I was a little worried about Enzo today. Sometimes after spending a long weekend with us, he can get upset when we go back to work. But he was fine, and had a great day.

I took Enzo in the Bjorn and the pups on an evening walk around 5:30. Enzo laughed the whole way watching the dogs, and was speechless when we came upon a house around the corner that was covered with blinking Christmas lights. Zoe made him a big dinner of steamed organic veggies, fresh fruit, risotto, and avocado, which he ate and ate and ate. Of course neither Zoe or I finished our dinner, as per usual.

Milestones: Tonight Enzo was really up on his knees and going hand over hand, crawling like a big boy.

Nanny Note: Enzo played with toys, we read a few books. We went for a walk. Enzo played on his swing, we watched Sesame Street and played with toys. We took another walk in the afternoon and he played in his saucer. Enzo was in a very good mood today.

After faking us out at about 7:15, pretending to be ready for bed and guzzling a big bottle of milk, Enzo ended up going to bed about an hour later than usual tonight, but it was nice to have the extra time with him.

all is quiet on new years day

Zoe made some post-call scones, which we fed to Enzo for breakfast along with some papaya. Hung around the house most of the day because of craziness in Pasadena.

We did run to the La Loma bridge to see the stealth bomber. Unfortunately we were 30 minutes early, and the bomber didn't fly over the stadium at kickoff this year. Enzo was very disappointed. Puppies came too.

Enzo didn't get his full afternoon nap, so he was a little cranky late in the day. He couldn't quite focus during dinner tonight, and wanted to be sitting in Zoe's lap. He loved the celery risotto though, and his carrots. We put him to sleep about 30 minutes early tonight.
