black flies

I was off to work early this morning, so didn't spend much time with monkey boy. He really slept in this morning, and had super sleepy face when I grabbed him from the crib. He went to bed with wet hair too, which completed the look. He and Zoe had a nice morning together. I think their first workday morning together without supervision.

Nanny Note: We listened to music, read books, played with toys. After nap we took a long walk, watched Sesame Street and read more books and played with cars outside. We tried to play at Gymboree but it was closed so we went for another walk.

Zoe was home a little early, and spent some time practicing putting his ball into the back of the dump truck. He is so proud of himself when he puts it in by himself. He laughs and raises both arms in the air. Enzo was really excited about his salmon tonight. Loves it. He went to bed exactly at 8:PM as usual.

March 29, 2007

back in block

Enzo back on schedule with no problems. Eleven hours of sleep last night. Not sure how he always gets that much sleep but Zoe and I get about five hours. French toast for breakfast out back with the dogs.

Milestones: For the first time, Enzo put his blocks back into the box, rather than just pulling them out. Doesn't seem like much, but actually a big step. I just hand him a block, point to the box, and he drops it in with a laugh. So fun.

Nanny Note: We read books, sang songs, went for a drive in the play car to see some flowers, leaves and a branch. After nap we played at Kidspace. We played with water at home. After nap, we played with blocks and listened to music.

After work we went to the farmers market to get some dinner. Really crowded and tons of kids running around. Enzo wasn't too stoked about his tamale but loved the beans from my burrito. Maybe not good to give him an entire meal of beans, but I won't be home tomorrow. He got pretty tired and cranky as we were leaving the market and went to bed right after his bath.

March 28, 2007

wagon walk

Enzo faked us out at 5:15AM this morning. He cried for a minute, but by the time we got his bottle and started to head into his room, he fell back asleep. He stayed asleep until almost 7:AM. We had nice breakfast outside, and threw the ball for the pups.

Nanny Note: We read books, played with blocks and he played with the swiffer for like 20 minutes. After nap, we took a long walk and watched a little bit of Sesame Street. We went for another walk.

Zoe had the day off again, so took over from Alex a little early this afternoon. They went for a long ride in his car, and then threw the ball for the dogs. When I got home, we scooped Enzer up and went to the park with his wagon to do some walking. He did great, but doesn't seem to be any closer to standing or walking on his own. He loved his broccoli tonight, and his books before bed.

March 27, 2007

back in the swing

Enzo's schedule a little off from the trip. Up at 5:AM this morning. A little out of sorts too, but I think happy to wake up in his own room this morning. He didn't eat a whole lot this morning. Family walk. Cold and very windy today.

Nanny Note: We went to Gymboree, watched a little bit of Sesame Street. He got a bit fussy at the end of class and was not very interested in eating. After nap we went for a walk.

After work, Enzo was a bit fussy and obviously tired. He managed to eat something after we went for a short drive in his car. Thankfully, Zoe took the day off rather than being on call as planned. Not sure if I was up for taking care of Enzo by myself tonight. He hung in there until his usual bedtime at 8:PM, so he may be OK tomorrow. Poor baby, so tired tonight.

March 19, 2007

bug room

Enzo slept in this morning, and then decided he wasn't going to eat breakfast. But he was happy, so I didn't really care. Zoe and I traded watching him back and forth while we both got ready for work. He was excited to see Alex this morning.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, read books, listened to music. After nap we went for a walk. We watched Sesame Street for a while, played with toys, read more books. After nap we went to Kidspace to play for about an hour. We played in the ply room ans walked through the science and bug room.

Zoe is on call tonight so Enzer and I were on our own. I heated up some leftover noodles and ravioli for dinner, and we sat out back. I threw the ball for the dogs while Enzo quietly sat and munched on noodles for about 30 minutes. We then went for a drive down the street in his car. He held on to the steering wheel the whole way for the first time, instead of waving his arms around like a crazy baby. We read some books, took a bath, read more books, 'walked' around (not making much progress), laughed at Mr, crawled, chewed on toys and water bottles and remote controls, and then read some more before finally deciding to pack it in just after 9:PM.

March 18, 2007

dandelion

Enzo woke super early this morning, so I curled up with him downstairs and gave him a bottle. He fell back asleep for about an hour on my chest. Mr kept yowling over and over unless I was scratching him. So from 5:30 to 6:30AM, I laid on the couch with one arm scratching Mr and one arm holding Enzer.

After our breakfast of delicious ricotta pancakes, we chatted with a landscaper to help us with our front yard. Enzo was not happy about that discussion so I put him to sleep. After nap, we went out for noodles, and then picked up Enzo's new big boy car seats. In a couple weeks he'll use the front facing seat, which I think he'll enjoy much more than facing the back seat.

We played in the front yard with this new water sprayer fountain thing that hooks up to the hose. The water was freezing, but Enzo didn't even notice because he was so excited. After we dried him off, he went to sleep for a bit. After nap, we went to the park. Enzo pushed his wagon all over the place through the thick grass. The only time he stopped was to play with a big white dandelion, which he thought was great. Unfortunately it was the only one in the entire park. He was so stoked and completely exhausted afterward. After a nice dinner out back, Enzer played, read, bathed and crashed.

March 17, 2007

one eighth irish

Enzo was up at the crack this morning, so we headed out to the west side for breakfast at our favorite place. Enzo was a bit crazy, sort of screeching and laughing, so we had to take shifts carrying him around outside. He wasn't too interested in actually eating. He was ready for his morning nap by the time we got back to the house.

After nap we headed out to Li and Neil's to the see the new baby. He is so small, only 6 lbs just like Enzo was. I can't believe Enzo was ever that tiny. Both Zoe and I got choked up just looking at that little guy and thinking about our little Enzer.

When we got home, we rolled around in the front yard with the dogs. Enzo has really been laughing at Harriet a lot lately. The dogs were fighting over this green ball (formerly Enzo's ball) and he just thought it was hilarious. A while later, Zoe was making Harriet shake, and Enzo was cracking up. Enzo had lox and bagels for lunch and was loving the salmon and the salmon eggs too. Really loved it.

Like a good little japanese taiwanese italian german english irish kid, Enzo had corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for dinner tonight. He went to bed a little late tonight, but was a lot of fun. Trying to walk all over, laughing at the puppies, and generally trying to get into whatever he could.

March 16, 2007

real babies eat quiche

Zoe had the morning off, so we had nice relaxing morning. Enzo has been so much fun lately. He loved his french toast. And was laughing at Harriet jumping over the hedges. He loves to watch the dogs running around.

Nanny Note: We played with blocks, the wagon and we listened to music. After nap we went to Kidspace we came home to play with water cuz Enzo has such a good time in the water @ Kidspace. After water play in the yard we read books and watched Sesame Street. After nap we took a walk to visit Grandma Jean.

After work, Enzo and I waited for Zoe in the frontyard playing with a Tonka truck and eating a snack of japanese squash quiche. Then we all went out to pick up the pups. Crazy Betty had a time out today. Enzo was tired tonight from all his running around today, and was pretty much ready to crash when we got home.

March 15, 2007

farmers market

Enzer slept in today, or maybe I was just sound asleep and didn't hear him. We had a nice morning, just finished up breakfast as Alex knocked on the door.

Milestones: Enzo might have pointed at the cat when I asked, "Where's Mr?". But I might have been imagining it. He's never pointed at anything.

Alex took Enzo to Kidspace Museum today. He had a great time playing in the outdoor water fountain apparently. Zoe was home early from call, and took Enzo for a drive down the street in his car.

As soon as I got home, we went to the farmers market in South Pasadena. Picked up some strawberries and some dinner. Enzo ate a big tamale and was in a great mood, just hanging out and people watching. So many kids running around down there and strollers everywhere. He was very tired when we got home and went straight to bed after bath at 8:PM.

March 14, 2007

home alone

Enzo up a little early this morning, but in a fine mood. Zoe made pancakes, and went for a short walk after breakfast. Did some reading before Alex showed up.

Nanny Note: We read books, played with toys and went for a short walk. After nap we played outside on the swing, ate lunch then played at Amy's Indoor Playground. Enzo enjoyed the foam shapes and play area and the tunnel. At home we listened to music and played with toys. After nap we took a long walk, read more books and then he played quietly with his toys.

On my own tonight. Fortunately Alex didn't let him take two huge naps today, so he was ready to go to bed closer to his usual time tonight. We had fun reading and driving around in his car. Enzo did some walking with his wagon, and played with his new Haba blocks. I was definitely nervous putting him to bed tonight, but I got lucky and he went to sleep easily.

March 13, 2007

late night

Zoe took the morning off, so we had a nice relaxing morning with Enzo. Breakfast and a walk. Such a beautiful day. We tried to put him down for a nap at his usual time but he wanted to stay up to play instead.

Nanny Note: After nap we took a walk, watched Sesame Street and ate lunch and read books. After nap we walked to the park to play for a while. We came home and read more books and played with toys and rode up and down the street in his car.

Day light savings time has officially messed up Enzo's schedule. He slept in until 7:15AM and then didn't go to sleep until 10:30PM again tonight. He needs a day of no naps tomorrow so we can get him to bed early. He has been in great mood the last couple late nights though, and it's nice to get the extra time with him. Lots of books and walking the wagon around the living room before he finally crashed.

March 12, 2007

go to sleep

Enzo went to bed so early last night, he was up early this morning. I think he's a little messed up from daylight savings time. He had trouble going to sleep tonight on time also, and was up until 10:PM. He was a lot of fun though. Racing back and forth across the living room pushing his wagon, bumping into furniture and dogs. The fun ended when he tripped stepping backward and knocked his head on the wood floor. Daddy's fault.

He woke back up after only being asleep for about 30 minutes, but fell back asleep the second I picked him up from the crib. I think he just missed us. He woke up and realized he was all alone. Little bug.

March 11, 2007

rumpusing

Hot day today, well into the 80s. We hung around the house in the morning, playing with pups and eating waffles. We were planning on meeting the Metcalfs at the park at noon but Enzo feel asleep and 11:AM. By 12:30, we decided to wake him up because they were waiting for us. He was dead asleep even after I scooped him up from the crib. Poor baby. We ended up meeting them about 1:PM at for some rompusing and some lunch. Enzo watched in amazement as Gabe ran around firing off his marshmellow gun. After park, we stopped by the store, and then home for an early dinner. Enzo only had one nap today so was tired early tonight. Tried to string him out with some furious reading, but he just needed to crash.

Enzo really was so easy and fun this weekend. Just laughing at every goofy thing we did to amuse him. Crawling and walking all around. His personality and sense of humor are really starting to emerge. We can't wait until he can talk, so we get to know him better.

March 10, 2007

out to lunch

Enzo and I had nice breakfast with the pups outside this morning. Zoe got back from the hospital about 9:30AM and we played outside until nap. After nap, we made the journey out to century city to get some lunch and do some shopping. Enzo had a blast at Breadbar, eating quiche and his foot. He was laughing and screeching like a maniac as we went in and out of shops.

Alex came over around 7:PM and Zoe and I went out to dinner with some friends to celebrate her birthday. It's been a while since we had a really nice dinner like that. Enzo did great while we were out and slept through the night no problem.

March 09, 2007

where's betty?

Easy morning with Enzo. Friday is trash day, so our big excitement is walking down to the sidewalk to watch the three different garbage trucks pick up trash. They have the big mechanical arm that grabs the can, lifts it up and dumps it out. Good times.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, listened to music and played on swing. After nap we went to Gymboree. There is no class or open gym next week! After Gymboree we walked around So. Pas for a while. After nap we took a walk.

Zoe is on call tonight, so I managed the man alone. We had to run out and pickup the dogs from daycare around 6:PM. Enzo is not a big fan of riding in the back seat by himself. He hung in there on they way out, but got upset coming back. Was tough to settle him down for dinner. I sang songs, crowed like a rooster, and danced around like an ass. Seemed to work. Plenty books after dinner, quick bath, and then mercifully to sleep with no problem.

Hour or so after Enzo is asleep, I discover Betty is nowhere to be found. After kind of freaking out for a minute, I realize there is only one place I haven't looked. So I sneak into Enzo's room, and there she is asleep under a big pile of pillows. Killing me.

March 08, 2007

pancakes

Nice morning again with Enzo. Long nights sleep, big breakfast, ball with the pups. Zoe made pancakes. I took him for a drive in his push car down the block before Alex showed up.

Nanny Note: We read books, sang a counting song and played with the car. After nap we took a walk, ate lunch and played outside. After second nap we walked up to play at the park.

Pretty mellow night with Enzo today. He sat outside while I threw the ball for the dogs, nibbling on crackers. After a big dinner of random things like custard and pollenta, he settled in for a marathon reading session with Zoe. He's starting to appreciate some of the longer non-board books now. He took a long bath tonight, and was ready to crash soon after.

March 07, 2007

king of all wild things

Family breakfast outside again. Betty loves it because I throw the ball for her every morning again. Walking around and around with the wagon.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, walked around with the wagon and read books. After nap we had lunch, took a walk, watched Sesame Street and played outside with toys. After nap we went to Gymboree.

We thought we might go out after work to see Li and Neil's new baby boy, but I got home a little late and we just decided to go out to the valley this weekend. Enzo was fun tonight, loved his zaru soba. I fed him his noodles with chop sticks. He likes to slurp the noodles into his mouth.

After dinner we read 30 or so books, including one of new favorites Where the Wild Things Are several times. I tried to read him Guess How Much I Love You and got kind of choked up at the end. Such a sweet story.

March 06, 2007

making friends

Enzer and I had breakfast outside again. Beautiful morning. Enzo walking around with his wagon again. He was in a great mood, laughing and crawling around with Alex when I left for work.

Nanny Note: We took a short walk, read books and walked around the house with the wagon. After nap we took a long walk, played with toys, rode around in the car, and ate a small lunch. We watched Sesame Street. After nap we went to play at the park. Enzo had a great time picking grass, sliding, swinging and playing on the play structure.

Enzo apparently met some friends at the park today when he was there with Alex. So cute. There are a bunch of little kids in the neighborhood that we should meet, but we haven't really yet. Typical LA. After work, I took Enzer and the girls for a walk, then he spent some time walking around with his wagon. He had a nice relaxed dinner, and then spent some time reading books with Zoe before bed.

March 05, 2007

crazy baby

Fun morning with Enzo. We ate breakfast out back again, and he was stuffing eggs in his mouth with both hands while watching the dogs fetch a tennis ball.

Nanny Note: we practiced walking with the wagon, and we listened to music. After nap we took a long walk. We played on the swing, played with toys, read books, and watched Sesame Street. After nap we took a walk, played with bubbles, sang bubble songs. We walked around with the wagon and sang a walking song, and ate a snack and read more books.

Enzo pretty much spent the entire night walking around the house with his wagon. Around and around and around. He was so excited and happy to be doing it by himself that he just went straight through his usual bedtime and was up until about 9:PM. Really so cute to see him laughing and running around.

March 04, 2007

boom

Such a beautiful day today, 80 something and sunny. Enzer woke up at his usual, and we went to Eagle Rock to get some breakfast. He wasn't exactly cooperating during breakfast but we managed to get some food into him between squirmings and standings.

After breakfast we headed out to the dog park park with the girls. It was hot. I threw the ball for the dogs while Zoe and Enzo went to play on the swings. The dogs got overheated pretty quickly, so we stayed only about an hour. Back home for lunch, and then back out to the park right up the street. Enzo walked around and played on the swings and slide.

Milestones: Enzo was walking, practically running, with his walker today all by himself.

After a short nap another walk and some dinner outside, Enzo was a little crazy. He was walking with his wagon back and forth across the living room. Back and forth and back and forth, crashing his wagon into the couch over and over. Every time he walked his wagon into the couch, we'd say "BOOM!", and he thought that was just the funniest thing.

March 03, 2007

say hello to my little friend

Such a fun day with Enzer today. He didn't sleep much at all today but he hung in there and was pretty happy most of the day. After a brief morning nap, he sat in my lap for about 45 min while i threw the ball for the dogs.

When Zoe got back from her breakfast meeting, we went to buy Enzer a new push car thing like the kid down the block has. We took him to the park and drove him around, and he had a great time. We worked on walking some too.

We went for a few more walks around the neighborhood with the dogs, hung out at the house reading books, and crawling around. Zoe had him laughing when she said, "say hello to my little friend". Over and over and over.

March 02, 2007

socks

Fun morning with Mr Man. Pancakes for breakfast. Zoe and I took the morning off to run some errands, so we had some extra time to spend with Enzo this morning.

Nanny Note: We listened to music and played with toys. Enzo liked lunch today. He was in a very good mood and had a lot of fun at Gymboree today! After nap we walked over to visit with Grandma Jean. He crawled all over her house looking for the cats.

We decided to stay in tonight instead our usual Friday night out with Enzer. Zoe made his fav pancetta pasta which he stuffed in his mouth as fast as he could. He walked around some and read some book before going to sleep right on time. Zoe and I actually watched an entire movie tonight! We are definitely back on track with his schedule. Looking forward to a fun weekend.

March 01, 2007

reflux r.i.p.

Again this morning we went in at 7:AM, and he was just hanging out chewing on a toy in his crib. We've read some things that talk about how good it his for him to have some quiet time alone. I think once he's a little bit more stable, and we are not constantly worried about him falling and knocking his head against something, we'll be able to give him more time alone. It's nice to see him focused and relaxed.

Milestones: I dumped the last bit of Enzo's reflux medicine. It's been a couple weeks since he's had any at all. No more refills.

Nanny Note: Before nap we played outside, exploring leaves, we read books and listened to music. After nap we took a long walk, ate a small lunch, watched a little bit of Sesame Street and read more books, then we went to Gymboree. We walked all over Gymboree and Enzo played with teacher Liana.

Apparently Enzo had a great day today. He had his normal naps at the right times, and went to sleep tonight just about right on time too. He was a little fussy tonight, just tired from a big day and a couple hours less sleep last night.
