April 30, 2007

lunch

Early AM family outing to the Rose Bowl soccer field for a game of fetch. Beautiful day today. Enzo sat on a park bench with Zoe happily eating his bagel, watching the girls flame around. Back at the house, Enzo helped me with the laundry. I sat folding clothes and stacking them on the couch, he stood throwing them on the floor.

Nanny Note: Enzo spent a lot of time using the Swiffer and wiping things with a cloth. He sure likes cleaning. We read some poetry from "Where the Sidewalk Ends". Enzo liked his lunch except the ravioli. After lunch we took a walk, watched Sesame Street, and played with bubbles outside. Enzo is doing a great job walking from place to place without help. Before nap, we read Mr Brown Can Moo and Five Little Monkeys. After nap, we took a walk and played outside with toys and bubbles.

Zoe and I played with Enzo in the front yard and in the living room after work. He was walking all over the place. We are slowing starting to let him wander out of our reach. We still keep him off the brick though. Wherever he's walking, it's pretty nerve racking.

We made a run to the store and to pick up pizza at about 7:PM, which proved to be a mistake. Enzo didn't get his usual naps today, and he only lasted about 10 minutes at the dinner table before getting upset. He stayed upset through his bath, which is very rare. So I put him straight to bed.

April 29, 2007

bbq

Enzo kind of woke up on the wrong side of the crib this morning. Fussy on and off for most of the day.

We went on an epic grocery run to Whole Foods after breakfast. We kept Enzo busy in the shopping cart with little cookies. And I put a little watermelon next to him in his seat too.

Big nap after the store. Zoe ran out to Santa Monica, while I hung at the house, cleaning up and waiting for Enzo to wake up. I made him some mac and cheese for lunch. He munched it happily while I threw the ball for the dogs. When Zoe got home, we just hung around the house and played with Enzer for a few hours. Walking, reading and munching on various bits of fruit and crackers.

After a quick nap, we rallied and headed out to the Metcalf's for a bbq dinner. Enzo had fun playing with Luke and Gabe and all their big toys. The Metcalf's installed a rubber floor in their garage, so Enzo could walk all around without fear of falling and hitting his head. At one point he walked over to me, put his arms around me, gave me a kiss, and then smiled as he rested his head on my shoulder. He stayed there for a minute, resting his head, looking me right in the eye, with the biggest smile on his face. It was such a nice little moment between us. So sweet.

Big dinner of corn, peas and hotdog. Quick bath and then straight to bed.

April 28, 2007

dog park

Big day for Enzo. Went to Peets for coffee and bagels. Enzo sat in my lap the whole time, and ate half of Zoe's breakfast. Then off to Gymboree. He did some great walking, and everyone was very impressed and telling him congratulations. He got torqued out by the parachute as per usual. He took a big nap when we got back to the house.

Milestones: Enzo fed himself with a spoon for the first time today.

After nap, Enzo and I played at the house waiting for Zoe to get back from running some errands. After some lunch, we headed into Old Pas to the Apple store. Stopped by the travel store too. Enzo carried around a laminated guide to North American mammals that he pulled off the shelf. Another quick nap when we got home.

Zoe went to get some pants hemmed, and I took Enzo and the girls to the dog park. It was extremely hot out there. The dogs pooped out pretty quickly. Enzo liked watching all the little dogs running around. I didn't let him walk around much because people tend to leave their dog shit all over the place.

I dropped the dogs at home, and we took Enzo to the park to do some walking. The grass was a little long, so he was having trouble. He mostly wanted to sit and eat clover flowers. We stopped and picked up some mexican take out. Ate back at the house. Enzo likes black beans. Then bath, books, bottle, bed.

April 27, 2007

take out

Enzo slept through the night despite his fever. He was in good spirits this morning, but still was a little warm. We passed him back and forth while we each got ready for work. We have to take the dogs to day care on Fridays too.

He was happy to see me when I came home, but quickly got kind of cranky. He hasn't been eating much food during the day lately, so maybe just hungry. I went to pick up some Thai food while he and Zoe took his car down the block. He liked his noodle dinner and mango dessert. He had a nice long bath. He was kind of washing himself, and was clapping like a seal and thumping his chest like a gorilla, just like one of favorite books.

April 26, 2007

shots

Enzo and I got ready for his one-year doctor appt by ourselves this morning. After a nice breakfast, we drove to the valley. He slept for a few minutes in the car.

Zoe met us at the doctor's office. It was nice to find out that Enzo is doing great and his very healthy. The nurse gave him four big shots, two in each thigh. The shots really hurt Enzo, and he got so upset. It was very tough to see. Zoe drove him home, while I went into work. He cried all the way home, and then took a two hour nap.

Nanny Note: Enzo woke up in a very good mood. We looked at animal books, took a short walk and had a very small lunch. After lunch we watched Sesame Street and played with toys. Enzo started to get cranky around 2:45 so we read a few books and had a bottle. Enzo seemed warm after nap but I couldn't find the thermometer so I gave him some ice water. We took a walk then played with bubbles.

Poor baby spiked a fever from his shots later in the day. He was glassy-eyed and lethargic, and very warm. He spent an hour snuggled up with Zoe, just staring off into space. He perked up a bit after eating some fruit and pasta, but he just wasn't feeling good at all. We gave him a short bath, and put him to bed about 8:PM.

April 25, 2007

da da

Enzo woke up early this morning, so we piled in the car and took the dogs down to the Rose Bowl soccer fields to throw the ball. When we got home, I fed Enzo a bowl of fruit while Zoe got ready for work. She's on call tonight.

Milestones: Enzo repeated "da da" back to me tonight, and also used the hand sign for milk when he was ready for his bedtime bottle.

Nanny Note: We went for a walk, listened to more Blues and played with blocks. After nap we went for another walk down to Ave 64 to watch the big trucks and machine that was breaking up the street. Then we played outside and watched Sesame Street. Enzo enjoyed the peas, but didn't eat much of anything else. Enzo has been in a nasty mood today. I checked for a fever but he didn't have one. After nap we went for another walk, played outside and listened to Gin House Blues and tried to find just one thing he would eat. At the end of the day we read a bunch of books and had a snack.

Apparently, Enzo was in a bad mood on and off today, but he was a lot of fun when I got home. We went to the park to do some safe walking. Enzo was way more interested in sitting and picking flowers (and then offering them to me) than we was in walking. He can walk pretty well, but if there's anything on the ground that catches his eye, he just sits. Usually what ever it is, ends up in his mouth.

After the park, we ate some mac & cheese and green beans. Then a quick, shallow, lukewarm bath. After some reading and a few more bites of dinner, Enzo went to sleep. He fell asleep without drinking much milk, so wouldn't be surprised if he wakes up soon wanting more.

April 24, 2007

runny nose

Enzo slept through the night, but woke up with a big old boogery nose. A real surprise that he picked up a cold at his party with 15 other snot nosed kids running around. He ate a big bowl of fruit as we read some books waiting for Alex.

Milestones: Enzo is clearly understanding some words. Say "clap" and he claps, says "hands up" and the hands go up.

Nanny Note: We went for a ride in his car, played with toys, read the Nose Book and Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we went to Gymboree. I don't know if he was hungry or if he was feeling under the weather, but Enzo walked me right to the door 1/2 way through class so we left early. I did notice that his nose is a bit runny today. After nap we went for a walk and played with bubbles. Enzo threw up a little this afternoon and his nose is still s little runny.

Booger man was fun after work today. We ate some fruit while Zoe made us a yumms dinner. We sat outside and played with dogs during dinner. After dinner we chased Enzo around the house. He was unusally nuts tonight. A lot of fun, but took a lot of work to make sure he didn't fall on the hardwood. His craziness extended about an hour after his usual bedtime. Hoping that not being able to breath through his nose won't affect his sleep.

April 23, 2007

just another monday

Enzo slept through the night again last night, so I think we're back on track. He woke up just in time to say goodbye to mommy who was out the door early to get to the OR. Enzer and I played in the living room and then ate a bowl of fruit out back with the dogs.

Nanny Note: We played with stacking cups (we counted them). We read Green Eggs and Ham and played with our alphabet letters and we sang the ABC song (I snag the ABC song and he just laughed). After nap we took a walk to watch the guys working on Ave 64. Enzo was fascinated by the bulldozers and dump trucks. He ate a small lunch today. We listened to some Blues after lunch then we went to KidSpace to ride the train and play at the park. After nap we listened to Piano Blues & Boogie and took another walk. We ended our day with more books.

Zoe and I talked on the phone on our way home about how much we missed him today. He was so much fun this weekend, we couldn't wait to get home and see his little face. He was happy to see us, and was in a great mood all night. I spent some time chasing him around the ottoman after dinner, and he was laughing and screeching, and trying to run the in the other direction. We played the pad thai card again tonight, and Enzo was happy.

Easy to put down tonight. Still wiped out from the weekend I bet.

April 22, 2007

dinner and a show

Enzo slept through the night. Hopefully tough love on Friday did the trick, we'll see. He woke up around 6:30AM. Not much breakfast today, but in a good mood after his bottle.

Mas and I went to play golf, and Zoe and Kim took Enzo to the farmers market with the rest of Zoe's family. Enzo ate some big strawberries, a corn tamale, part of a cheese pupusa, got a balloon, and listened to the rasta guys play the drum. He slept for about 30 minutes in the car on the way to the Japanese market.

When we got back from golf, Enzo was down for his afternoon nap. Didn't last long once the family showed up, the landscaper knocked on the door, and Betty started barking.

For the rest of the afternoon, we all just sat around watching Enzo crawl around, walk, dance, read books, laugh, and just be cute. The family went and picked up some Thai food, and brought it back. Enzo loved his pad thai noodles and had a leftover birthday cupcake too. He put on a real show at dinner, laughing and smiling at everyone and giving kisses too. After dinner, we took a bath with an audience, and then played in living room. Zoe's family watched the Bringing Home Baby episode for the first time.

He really started to warm up to his grandma and auntie tonight, but of course right when he starts to get comfortable with people, they go away. Story of his life.

He really could not have better this weekend with family and the party and totally off his schedule. Just so sweet and so much fun.

April 21, 2007

birthday

Enzo woke up yet again last night, but we let him cry it out rather than giving him milk to put him back to bed. Took him about 45 minutes before he stopped crying and went back to sleep.

We woke him up early this morning, so he would sleep before his party. We had a nice morning, just hanging around. Predictably Enzer got cranky about 9:AM, which was perfect. I put him him down and Zoe took off to run pre-party errands. He was asleep for about 45 min before I woke him and got him dressed for his party.

His party went off without a hitch, Enzo and all the little kids had so much fun. He loved sliding down the bouncing slide. Enzo was a little freaked out by the cake and singing thing, but was fine. He didn't eat any cake, but did smear chocolate frosting from a mini cupcake all over himself and me too.

Milestones: One year old today!

After the party, Enzo and I played back at the house while Zoe did some running around with her family. He went down for a nap at about 3:PM and was in a good mood when he woke up. We went out to some Chinese food at this little sketch place across town. Enzo wolfed down his beefy noodles, and then got very tired. He cried most of the way, and went to sleep immediately after a quick bath. Big day for the little man.

April 20, 2007

family dinner

Up once again last night at 1:AM. Ugh. Was hard putting him back down. He slept in and woke up in a good mood. After breakfast, Grandma Li, Aunt Mimi and Uncle JP stopped by to say hi to Enzer. He was a little shy but relaxed pretty quickly.

Nanny Note: After nap we listened to Muddy Waters, played with instruments and went to visit Grandma Jean. He played with some of their toys and chased their cat around the house. We got home at 3:PM and I put him down for his nap.

Zoe and I both got home early from work, and the family came over again. He was laughing and did some dancing too. We went out to sushi, and Enzo did great. He was so much fun. He was eating and laughing and smiling at everyone, and he sat in his chair the whole time. He ate a ton and made a huge mess in the process. Maybe a big meal means a good nights sleep.

April 19, 2007

up again

Enzo woke up again last night around 2:AM, not sure what's going on with him the last few days. Hopefully he'll snap out of this pattern soon. He was fun this morning, although it was difficult to get him to eat anything for breakfast.

Nanny Note: We read Brown Bear and the Hungry Caterpillar, and rode up and down the block in his car. He was holding my travel mug. He looked like all the other commuters today :) We listened to EJ Moeran a British composer and we had fun dancing around o fast paced music. After nap we took a long walk. When we got home we tried to eat lunch but he spit everything out and threw it on the floor. Enzo has been in a very silly mood all day. We played at Gymboree and went to get more music at the library. When we got home we listened to some Blues, played with instruments and looked at books.

We tried to go out to dinner, but Enzo was so bad we had to leave after about 20 minutes. He really has lost interest in eating the last few days. Refusing food we offer him and throwing it on the floor. When we got home, Zoe fixed him a quesadilla, which we fed him as we chased him around the living room. He sort of ate some of it. He was easy to put to sleep tonight. Hope he stays asleep until morning.

April 18, 2007

dancing

Zoe was off to the the OR this morning before Enzo was awake. I caught him before he was too upset when he woke up, and it made a big difference. He gave me a big smile when I grabbed him from the crib. Usually he needs a bottle to calm down in the morning, but we skipped straight to breakfast and he was fine.

Nanny Note: Before nap we listened to the Napping House CD and read the book and we played outside. After nap we went for a walk, watched Sesame Street, we sang Three Speckled Frogs and ate lunch. He was not interested in eating today. We also went to Gymboree.

After work, Enzo was in good mood and walking all around. And falling all over too. Enzo and I played in the front yard while Zoe made dinner. Enzo showed off his new dance moves for Zoe when I turned on his little Japanese music book thing. So cute. Video of that coming soon. Enzer didn't get an afternoon nap, so got tired very early, and didn't quite make it to dinner. So we had an early bath and straight to bed after a big bottle.

April 17, 2007

bump in the night

Enzo woke up again last night around 1:AM. I took the bumper off the crib a couple nights ago, and I think he might be rolling over a bumping his head against the side. He had a light breakfast this morning, and we did some walking in the front yard before Alex came.

Nanny Note: We read Rainbow Fish and listened to Mozart. After nap we went to Gymboree. Enzo practiced walking and he did a fair amount of dancing as well. The theme was high and low so whatever you can do to reinforce that will be great. For example, shaking the maraca up high and down low is his favorite thing to do. I tried to feed him some melon but he refused it. I had a hard time getting Enzo to eat today. After nap we went to Lakeshore, played outside and had a snack.

Our usual post-work routine tonight. Enzo was a little fussy, I think just hungry. He had salmon and peas for dinner, then we went to sign our tax returns. He did some great walking tonight — getting more and more confident. The hardwood floors are still stressing us out though. It will be a while before we feel good about letting him walk around the house out of our reach.

Enzo actually just woke up again. Went back down pretty easily. That's three nights in a row waking up. The bumper is going back on tomorrow morning.

April 16, 2007

sukiyaki

Enzo woke up for a couple minutes last night, but was back to sleep pretty easily. Then he slept in until 7:AM. Zoe made him peanut butter toast for the first time. (No peanut butter before one year.) He seemed to liked it.

Nanny Note: We listened to Mozart, played with toys and went to see if Gymboree was open. Nope. After nap we took our usual walk ate lunch and played at Kidspace. Enzo has been in a very good mood all day. Enzo was not interested in the water today, only in walking all over the courtyard. After nap we took a short walk. I tried to get him to eat a snack but he was not going for it. We read books and listened to Mozart again.

After work, we did some walking in the front yard. He was a little hesitant to walk for some reason, maybe fell today. We're wishing we had more room for him to practice walking, and less hardwood floors. Zoe made a great beef sukiyaki which Enzo was crazy for. Tried to walk some after dinner, but Enzo was pretty tired. We gave him a bath and he was ready for sleep soon after.

April 15, 2007

world peas

Chilly and overcast today. Enzo was up early, so we went to Peets for breakfast first thing. Enzo loves bagels with cream cheese, and he loves to wipe cream cheese all over himself and his Dad. Enzo was ready for his nap early this morning.

After nap we went across town to run some errands before heading down to Huntington Beach for a birthday party. Enzo was hard to keep happy for the hour long trip, but once we got there he was in a great mood. He was walking really well by himself, and everyone was very impressed. He was pretty happy with himself too.

Enzo was very ready to leave at 5:PM, about two hours later than his usual nap. On the way home, he and I both fell asleep in the back seat while Zoe drove.

We scrounged for dinner tonight. Enzo ate about one hundred whole peas with his mini ravioli. Late dinner, late bath and late to sleep tonight. Tough putting him down tonight. Long day for the man.

April 14, 2007

grove

Off to Gymboree bright and early this morning. Enzo had fun, got a little tired near the end, and took a big old nap when we got home. While Enzo was sleeping I took the dogs to the park.

After nap, we headed across town to look for a nice shirt for Enzo to wear at his birthday party next weekend. The traffic was brutal and the Grove was packed, but we managed to find a good shirt and get some lunch. We stopped for ice cream on the way back which almost made the four hour journey across town and back worthwhile. Enzo fell asleep in the car for a few minutes, so we stopped by the J-town market to pick up some supplies.

Milestones: I'm going to say that Enzo officially walked today for the first time.

We made Enzo a snack of mac and cheese when we got back, and then we walked around in the front yard. Enzo took it to a new level today — standing for much longer periods and doing some very stable walking by himself. We caught some good walking on video. He just might be ready for his big debut next weekend.

Zoe out tonight, so Enzer and I hung out, ate some apple, read books, took a bath, read more books, and crashed about 8:45PM.

April 13, 2007

raw fish

I continued my solo marathon with Enzo this morning. We didn't have much a breakfast for some reason. Enzo just wanted more milk. I forgot to put the bark collar on Betty when I left for work, and she barked when Zoe came home. Enzo woke up after only a 15 minute morning nap.

Nanny Note: We listened to Beethoven, read Dogs Colorful Day and 10 Red Apples. Wewalked to the parl to play and at home we played with toys. Enzo was in a very good mood for only having a 15 min nap, but he was not very interested in having lunch. After nap we took a walk and played in the water and we watched a little bit of Sesame Street.

Zoe let Alex go early after running some errands. They went to the park to do some walking. On the way home, Enzo took a short nap. After work, Enzo and I ran to get the dogs. Then we went to get some sushi. Enzo really loved his dinner, and we had a lot of fun. We stopped to grab some ice cream on the way home. He was up too late again tonight. No more 5:PM naps.

April 12, 2007

sick day

Epic day with Enzo. Alex called in sick, and Zoe is on call, so Enzo and I spent 15 hours straight hanging out.

After breakfast, we went to Gymboree. Theme today was music. Enzo liked banging on the drums and the gong. He got a little upset right at the end when we had to put all the instruments away. He wasn't quite done with his yet. He settled down soon though. On the way home, he tried to fall asleep, but I sang really loudly to keep him up. Didn't really matter though, because he wouldn't go down for his nap anyway.

So after failed nap, we went to Peets for lunch. Enzo and I shared lox and bagels, which he loved. We then went over to Borders to look at books. I got a phone call, and kind of took my eye of Enzo for a few minutes. After the call, I realized Enzo had chewed the corner of a book about farm animals, so we bought it. Cute book actually. Good choice Enzo.

Enzo fell asleep right away in the car, so I drove out to REI to look for baby carrier backpacks. He stayed asleep for 45 minutes, so I sat in the parking lot sending text messages to Zoe. No reading material. They didn't have the pack I was looking for, but I got some Crocs. The baby Crocs were too big for Enzo.

We then went to Kidspace which was a lot of fun. Enzo sat in the stream and the fountain, and got super wet and cold. We changed into some dry clothes and then looked at the bee hive. We were waiting in line for the train, but a bunch of rude people and kids cut in front of us, so we left. Couldn't be bothered.

At home, we had some mac & cheese, rolled around in the living room, and played outside with the dogs. At around 5:PM, we went to the farmers market for dinner. On the way over, Enzo fell asleep again. I let him take about a 10 min nap. He had fun at the market. We picked up super skinny asparagus for him (one of his favorites) and then got some dinner. Enzo loved his cheese quesadilla and Fuji apple.

Back home, we took a bath, read books, and played with toys way past Enzo's bedtime. He was up until 9:15PM, and awake for nearly 14 hours today. I guess he was happy to have me home.

April 11, 2007

spoon

Regular morning with the man. Fruit and yogurt breakfast, ride down the street in his car. Read him books before Alex showed up.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, talked about colors, walked around, listened to Mozart and read some books. After nap we took a walk, watched Sesame Street, played with bubbles, listened to Mozart and went to Kidspace to play. Enzo got totally drenched in the water and played with musical instruments in the indoor play room.

After work, we played with Enzer, read some books, and ate some take out. Enzo liked his beefy noodles, but made a huge mess, which was cleaned up by Betty. We did some walking out front, and Enzer put together five steps before crashing into Zoe's lap. He seemed a little warm tonight, maybe slight fever. I have a cold which I think I got from him last week, but not sure. Crashed right on time tonight, and seems to be OK.

April 10, 2007

monster

Enzo slept in this morning. Zoe and I snuck in to see what he was up to. He was just standing there waiting for us. After breakfast, we just hung around the house. Enzo got a kick out of Betty jumping on and off the big ottoman.

Nanny Note: When Enzo woke up we went to Gymboree. After Gymboree we went to So Pas Library to get some music. Once we got home we listened to Tschaikowsky. After nap we watched Sesame Street and took a long walk. We listened to more Tschaikowsky and played with blocks. Enzo has been in a very good mood all day. He has also been in touch with his inner monster for of the afternoon.

When I got home, Enzo and Alex were out back playing in the swing. He was happy to see me. When Zoe drove up, we were out in the front yard. I whispered, "Momma's home" and he got super excited. We had a mellow dinner and then did some walking in the front yard. Enzo didn't much naps today, so he was tired pretty early tonight. After bath, Zoe read him many books and then he crashed about 8:PM.

April 09, 2007

library card

For some reason, Enzo randomly woke up in the middle of the night. First time a month or so. He went back to sleep after about an hour and a giant bottle of milk. He woke up a little earlier than usual this morning too. Maybe just the tail end of his cold. We had a nice family breakfast this morning outside with pups.

Nanny Note: We played with toys. After nap, we walked to the library to check out some books. When we got home we watched Sesame Street and read our books and we played outside. He has been wanting to walk all around the house today so that's how we get around. After nap we went to the park to play and when we got home we read our library books again.

After work, we just hung around the house, trying to walk in the front yard. Enzo strung together a few more steps today. We had leftovers, and Enzo enjoyed his dinner again. We spent some time chasing Enzo around the living room and he was delighted. Totally laughing and crazy. Easy to put to sleep. Hopefully feeling OK tonight.

April 08, 2007

easter

Mellow day today. After pancake breakfast, we went to the dog park. Cold damp day, perfect for endless running around after the ball in the wet grass. As usual Betty & Harriet were the talk of the park. Enzo liked the corgi puppies.

After morning nap, we headed to the west side to get some lunch and look for a new video camera. Lunch at Breadbar was incredibly lame. Wow, that place has hit the skids. We won't be back. Then we went to the suspiciously empty Beverly Center. Turns out all the shops were closed today. Bummer.

Enzo got a little antsy on the car ride home, but Zoe managed to entertain him until we got to the park up the street. Enzo did some boneless stumbling back and forth between us. He was having fun, but not exactly walking. Afternoon nap when we got home.

Zoe made some salmon and rice tonight, and we both agreed Enzo ate the biggest meal of his life. Zoe had to cut him off, because we both got scared he had eaten too much. Wow. Walked with the dogs after dinner, then bath, then books, then bed at 8:PM. Nice family weekend.

April 07, 2007

baby steps

Such a fun day with Enzo. After a yeasty waffle breakfast, we headed over to Gymboree. He was so happy to be there — laughing and screeching. After morning nap, we went out for lunch in South Pas. Enzo made a mess of his quiche, but fortunately we were seated outside. He got to see the train go by three or four times. We stopped by the house to pick up the dogs, and then went to the casting pond to throw the ball. The dogs were stoked and freezing cold after about 20 minutes.

Milestones: Enzer took a few unaided steps today, but not 'walking' yet.

Enzo almost took an afternoon nap, but as per usual on the weekends decided against it. We hung around the house a bit, and then headed out to the park to do some walking practice. We had Enzo stumbling back and forth between us over and over again. He walks like a drunken sailor, but he did manage to string a few steps together without holding our hands. He also stood for a few seconds several times. He's getting closer every day.

Back home we hung out while Zoe made an early dinner. Enzo was looking pretty sleepy around 6:PM, but we strung him out until almost 8:PM. He got a bit upset after his bath because he was so sleepy.

April 06, 2007

asparagus

Zoe had the morning off so we had some time for a family breakfast. French toast for Enzer. He made a big mess again.

Nanny Note: We read Big & Small, rode his car down the block and back, listened to Latin Jaz and played with toys. We watched Baby Galileo then went to Kidspace. I forgot to bring his shoes so we just played in the indoor playroom. We played with the large foam shapes and large blocks. After his nap we took a long walk, played outside and with toys inside.

Tonight after work, we spent a lot of time practicing walking with one hand. He started to get tired and went boneless after a while. At dinner, all he wanted to eat was asparagus spears one after another. Stinky asparagus pee diaper tomorrow. He was funny after his bath tonight. I was blowing raspberries on his belly and was screeching and laughing. A few books and then bed. Both Enzo and the dogs wiped out. Peaceful house tonight.

April 05, 2007

big boy seat

Enzo was super sleepy this morning when we first got him out of the crib. After his bottle, he spent another 15 minutes flopping around on the couch and on my chest. I had him walking around holding only one hand again.

Milestones: Alex accidentally left with the car seat, so I installed the new forward-facing big boy car seat tonight. We drove in to town and Enzo seemed to like being able to look out the front window. And Zoe sat in the front passenger seat for the first time in 11 months.

Nanny Note: We listened to more Spanish guitar, played with maracas and read Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we went to Kidspace to play, eat lunch, ride the train and play in the park. Enzo loved the train ride. There were so many children there but Enzo still had a chance to play in the water. After nap we went to play at Gymboree. We played on everything and he even got a chance to walk up a slide

After work, I installed the big car seat and we went to Old Pas for dinner and to run a couple errands. Popped in Noodle Planet for dinner. Enzo was kind of terrible and was throwing his food around and wiping his greasy hands all over the booth seat. He had a lot of fun though. We left a big tip as per usual. Enzo was pretty tired tonight after his big day. Some books and then some sleep.

April 04, 2007

give me a hand

Nice morning with Enzo. More salmon for breakfast.

Milestones: Enzo walked holding on to only one of my hands tonight for the first time. Always needed to hold two hands up until now.

Nanny Note: We listened to a great Spanish guitar CD this morning and played with maracas. Enzo likes it when I tap mine on his which is great because it lets him feel the beat. We walked to the library to read books. We read Daring Dog & Captain Cat, Rooster Moon and Fish Wish. At home we watched Sesame Street. We went to KidSpace to play.

Fun after work tonight. Enzo is getting better with his walking. Almost there. He was very proud to be walking only holding one of my hands. He had more beefy noodles and peas tonight. Zoe also had him putting the round block in the round hole, square in square hole, etc... Obviously Enzo is one of the smartest babies ever. Lot of books before bed. Sleeping tight tonight after a big day.

pointer

Enzo seems to be doing OK with his little cold. A bit of a runny nose again this morning, but he slept through the night with no problem. We had eggs and broccoli for breakfast. Enzo is going through this phase (hopefully) where he spits everything out into his hands, inspects it, and then puts it back into his mouth (usually). Actually pretty funny, but we're trying not to encourage it. Makes for a big mess. He's also learned to throw food on the ground for the dogs that he doesn't want to eat.

Nanny Note: We read books, listened to Latin Jazz and played with blocks. We used blocks and moracas to make music. We listened to more Latin Jazz then went for a long walk. We watched Sesame Street. We read The Napping House and Rainbow Fish before his nap. After nap we went for another walk then played with soft blocks and listened to more Latin Jazz. I'm not sure he likes it but that's ok. He really is more talkative today and he is also in a much better mood.

At dinner tonight, Enzo pointed at Betty whenever I asked, "Where's Betty?". He doesn't really point, but just sticks his whole hand out in the general direction. He got a big kick out of it. We gave him a lot of praise. He loved his beefy noodles tonight, and we had nice relaxing dinner out back. He dropped so much food on the ground for the dogs that one of them got sick, not sure which one.

fire engine

Enzer up very early this morning, but fell back asleep on my chest for an hour or so after a bottle. His nose is running a little and he has a slight fever. Maybe picked up a cold yesterday from one of the kids at the shower. Not much breakfast this morning. Alex put him back to sleep at about 9:AM.

Nanny Note: We read Brown Bear and Runaway Bunny, we sang his new favorite sone, "One, One, Show me One". He likes counting songs. After nap we sat outside for awhile. We took a short walk and watched Sesame Strret and ate lunch. He seems to be feeling better. We listened to music and played with blocks and played with bubbles outside. Enzo wanted to play with Betty today when we woke up from his nap, so he followed her around the living room, then we went for another walk and read Rainbow Fish.

Enzo was so talkative after work this morning. Babbling away. Lots of sounds I haven't heard from him before. Still had a runny nose, but was in great spirits. He fed the dogs most of dinner, and made a real mess in the process. I was showing him the first words flash cards, and he was just tossing them aside one after another until he got to the fire engine card. He stopped and laughed and looked at it for about a minute. Crazy about fire engines. Weird. He's only ever seen one in person before. Here's to hoping his cold doesn't wake him up in the middle of th night.

baby shower

Enzo had a great breakfast of salmon with Chris and Kala this morning. He can't get enough salmon. After morning nap, Zoe and Kala took Enzo out to pick up things for Kala's baby shower, and then headed over to the Metcalfs for the party. Chris and I went to play golf with Scott.

There were a bunch of other little kids at the party which was great for Enzo. Leah's daughter spent the afternoon giving Enzo kisses. At one point, Katie's nanny scooped up Enzo to take him to join the other kids. Enzo was not happy about that apparently, so he spent the day under Zoe's arm.

After golf, we made it over to the party. Enzo was very happy to see me, and stretched out his arms the second I got there. He had fun playing with Leah's daughter, who was kissing Enzo at every turn. Enzo does have a way with the ladies.

He crashed in the car for a few minutes on the way home, and woke up in a great mood. He had more salmon for dinner. His nose is running a little. That's what playing with a bunch of snot-nosed kids will get you.
