berry good

Enzo and I got up and took the dogs to day care. Had some yard work done today, so no puppies. I got him his usual Starbucks croissant, but he wasn't too interested today. Zoe tried to feed him breakfast when we got home, but wasn't too interested in that either. His crankiness continued after Alex came. Probably just hungry.

Nanny Note: We got off to a rough start this morning but it got better. We curled up with blankie and watched Where the Wild Things Are and had a bottle and he fell asleep no problem. After nap we played outside, went for a walk, ate lunch and read 10 Little Rubber Ducks. We went to play at Kidspace for a while. When we got home I tried to put him down for a nap but he didn't fall asleep so we played with toys, read books, dand songs and ended the day with his favorite DVD.

We did our usual Thursday night dinner at the farmers market. We accidentally got the same meal for him as last week, forgetting that it was a disaster. Rice and Enzo not a good combo. We also gave him a couple big fat strawberry which he smushed and smeared all over. He made a pretty impressive mess of himself, and that was our cue to head home. Right as we were leaving a little girl walked up him, grabbed him and kind of bit him on the side of the head. I think it was just kind of a rough kiss. Enzo was stunned, and just gave this little girl a look like, "what in the hell was that?" He went through his usual routine back home, and hit the sack early.

May 29, 2007

grampy pants

Enzo was upset from the moment he woke up this morning. He basically cried for an hour straight. Sort of inconsolable. I had plans to take him out for breakfast and go play fetch with the dogs, but instead we cried. Enzo cried for no reason, and I cried because I knew I still had 90 minutes until Alex shows up.

Nanny Note: We watched a cement mixer, played in the front yard, and he asked to watch Where the Wild Things Are. He was not in the best mood today. We read Where the Wild Things Are, A Good Day, The Napping House and Do Lions Live on Lilly Pads. After nap we went to Gymboree the we came home for lunch. Enzo was not pleased to go to Gymboree but was much happier at home. I tried to put him down around 2:PM but he was having none of that. He was in a good mood though, so we went for a walk. When we got back I tried put him down again but he was too active.

He was in good mood after work today. Zoe had a chance to spend some time with him this afternoon, which I think made him happy. We didn't do much, just hung around waiting for Zoe to cook dinner. Enzo ate an entire peach, and then smeared peach juice and chunks all over himself while we waited. We changed him into old man pants right before dinner, which was hilarious. He was walking around laughing with his pants pulled half way up his chest. We went for a long walk with the dogs after dinner. Enzo tried very hard to fall asleep on the walk, but we didn't let him. Bath, books, and bed after that.

memorial

Enzo slept in again this morning. We think his tooth isn't bothering him anymore. Zoe made french toast for breakfast. I ate most of it but Enzo liked it too. After breakfast, I took Enzo and the dogs for a long walk behind the house.

Nanny Note: We read The Five Chinese Brothers, watched Where the Wild Things Are, played with a big big ball, we went for a walk, played with toys outside and listened to music. Enzo only ate a small amount of his lunch but he was probably just tired. After nap, we played ball outside and went to visit Grandma Jean and the new kitten. When we got home, we read 10 Little Rubber Ducks, Leonardo the Terrible Monster, Maisy's Dressup and Snow Day and many other books.

Zoe is on call tonight, so Enzo and I got some take out Chinese. Enzo had is usual chow fun, with some shrimp cakes and some mango custard. He accidentally spit some custard on Betty's back while she was eating noodles off the floor below the highchair. He really was a mess after dinner. I took everyone on another long walk after dinner. My legs are going to be sore in the morning. That's sad.

Enzo had a nice long bath, and we read books until about 8:30PM.

May 27, 2007

dog biscuit

Enzo slept until 6:30AM for the first time in about a week. Zoe had to round on a patient again and then had plans with friends after, so Enzer and I headed back over to Peets for coffee and bagels. We had nice time, munching on various bits and walking around. Some guy gave Enzo a dog biscuit to feed his lab. Enzo first put the biscuit in his mouth, and then offered it to the dog. We went for a long walk around the old neighborhood.

Enzo took a monster two hour nap when we got home, which gave me a chance to do some work. He was all sweaty and had major sleepy face when I went up to get him at noon. We headed out to South Pasadena to get Enzo a piece of quiche at his favorite lunch place. Zoe met us about half way through our meal, and then she took Enzer to the store while I went downtown to work for a few hours.

Enzo and Zoe had a fun and rare afternoon alone together. Lots of rumpusing around the house and front yard, and no naps. When I got back home, Enzo and I took the dogs for a long walk around the neighborhood. Enzo got his bath soon after, and a few books later was ready for bed.

May 26, 2007

enzo the terrible monster

Enzo up early again, and back to sleep on my chest in the rocker after some milk and Advil. Peets for breakfast. Zoe went to go round on a patient, and Enzo and I took a spin around the old neighborhood. We bumped into little Orangino, the survivor. Enzo giggled when Orangino rubbed up against his leg and purred. Enzo and I played in the front yard until Zoe came home.

Milestones: Enzo can go from sitting to standing now without pulling himself up on something.

After a ten minute morning nap, we headed out to the valley to go to the big book store, Storyopolis. Enzo found a lot of things to pull off the shelves, chew on, and carry around the store. Unfortunately none of those things were books. We did find a couple winners among the thousands of really bad children's books. The two he likes the most are Leonardo the Terrible Monster and Ten Rubber Ducks. We read him Leonardo at 10 times this afternoon and tonight.

Enzo got tired pretty quickly, so we aborted lunch and came home. He got pretty upset in the car, and went down for a nap right when we got home. He woke in a cranky mood. He felt a little feverish and had some GI issues, we think related to his teething. After getting some more motrin on board, he settled down. Zoe made dinner, and then we played in the front yard with the dogs. Enzo thought it was very funny when I sent the dogs down the slide, over and over.

May 25, 2007

holy molar

This morning little Enzo woke up at 4:30AM. We think his molar that's comin gin is really bothering him. Poor bug. He fell back asleep after some milk, but not for long.

After we all woke up, Enzo and I took the pups out to day care which Zoe stayed and made Enzer some breakfast. We had a nice ride out there, Enzo happily munching on Chex the whole way. We stood and watched the dogs run around behind the glass wall. Enzo was laughing at Betty chasing a big purple ball, while he danced to the music the early morning pet shop crew had blaring.

Nanny Note: We went for a walk around the hill and played in the sprinklers for a while. When we came in to get changed we listened to music and finished breakfast. After nap we went to the park to play then we came back to have lunch, read books and play with toys. After nap we played with dump trucks and blocks outside and rode around in his car.

After work we went out for Friday night sushi. Enzo was pretty nuts at the restaurant - running around, screeching, dropping food on the ground, etc... He didn't eat much, and Zoe and I took turns taking him outside. We stopped by Borders to pick up a few more books for Enzo, and he had a blast walking around, pulling stuff off the shelves. We added four or five new books to the collection. Unfortunately, he was so tired when we got home, he didn't get a chance to read them. Pretty much straight to bed after his bath. Expecting him bright and early tomorrow, if not sooner.

May 24, 2007

cherries

Enzo was up at 5:30AM again this morning, and did his usual drink milk and fall asleep on my chest for another hour routine. Zoe got up early and made Enzer a nice breakfast that we ate out back with the dogs. The dogs probably ate most of it.

After breakfast, I took Enzo and the dogs for a long walk up behind the house. I brought a pocket full of little crackers that Enzo munched on happily as we went. It started to get pretty warm out by the time we got back to the house, and daddy and the puppies were hot and tired.

Tonight after work we went to the South Pas market as usual. Enzo had the traditional cheese quesadilla. We also bought him a bunch of fresh fruit, including peaches, cherries, and apricots. He kept trying to eat whole cherries, which we would then have to pry out his mouth. He scattered cheese, rice, and fruit all over our blanket, and was pretty much the messiest kid there. Two moms that we don't know walked by and said, "Is that Enzo? I know him from Gymboree!" Apparently he's some local celebrity.

May 23, 2007

open shut them

Enzo woke up at the crack this morning, so we had a lot of time for adventure before work. First thing was breakfast at Cindy's. Enzo ate dollar pancakes and peaches. After breakfast, I dropped Zoe off at the house and picked up the dogs. Enzo and I went to the Rose Bowl to play fetch. Back at the house we played on the slide, and played Enzo's new game - walking in the house, closing the door, opening the door, walking outside, walking inside, closing the door, opening the door, walking outside, etc...

Nanny Note: We played with toys, went for a ride in Enzo's car down the block to visit with Jack and get wet in the sprinklers and we read books. After nap we went to Kidspace to play and have lunch. We played at the park after Kidspace. When we got home we watched Where the Wild Things Are. After his nap we took a walk around the hill and then we played with the water table.

After work, we grilled some steaks and made Enzer some noodles and veggies. We went for a walk after dinner with the pups. Enzo's got many teeth coming in right now, so he's been fussy the last few nights. He was pretty good tonight after we played outside for a while. He settled in to some books with Zoe, and was pretty easy to put down.

May 22, 2007

100%

Family outing to the Rose Bowl this morning. The grass was so wet and Enzo got soaked walking and flopping around. He really liked the dirt patches, and spent some time picking and eating clover flowers also. The dogs had a blast too. Back at the house, Enzo and I ate breakfast out in the front yard while Zoe got ready for work.

Milestones: After 13 months, Enzo had his last bottle of fresh breast milk tonight.

Nanny Note: We read books and watched Big BIg World on Sprout. Enzo woke up crying after an hour but was ok after a few minutes. We watched Where the Wild Things Are, then went to play at Kidspace and have our lunch. Enzo played for awhile in the water then we played with the baby doll in the indoor playroom. After nap we went to Grandma Jean's to see their new kitten. Enzo had SO much fun following the kitten around the house and playing with all their toys. When we got home we played outside with the water table.

After work, we got dinner going right away. Enzo had some left over pasta and broccoli. We went for a nice walk with the puppies around the neighborhood with Enzo in the backpack. Back at the house, we just played in the living room with the dogs. Betty was jumping on and off the ottoman, and it was cracking Enzo up. He was laughing so hard. He had a nice bath, read some books, and went to bed at 8:15PM.

May 21, 2007

rain, rain go away

Enzo and took the dogs to the Rose Bowl soccer fields to play fetch in the rain. Enzo wore his nice new rain jacket pullover that he got from his Aunt Mimi, and he was very cozy up in the backpack. Perfect conditions for the dogs. They could have gone on for hours. We made it back to see Zoe off to work, and to eat a few bites of breakfast before Alex arrived.

Nanny Note: We read books sang songs. He likes 10 Little He likes "TenLittle Horses". After nap, he watched Where the Wild Things Are, then we played outside with all his new toys. After we played outside, we went for a walk to watch the men working on Avenue 64 again. We played with blocks, listened to music. After nap we watched Sesame Street and went for another walk and we looked at animal books and listened to music again. He had a couple of bad moments when his teeth were bothering him. Usually I can distract him but later in the day he was pretty upset so I gave him a small dose of Advil at 5:00.

We had a great dinner of wagon wheel pasta and beefy pasta sauce. Enzo was choking down huge wagon wheel, one after another. Kind of scaring us. Also guzzling large quantities of water. He was very focus on his meal so we left him alone. He was also using a fork all by himself tonight. Actually managed to successfully stab some pasta and transfer it to his mouth. After bath, Zoe read Enzo some books, and then he played outside for a while in his pajamas. It started to get dark, so we went back inside for a few more books. Then bed at 8:PM.

May 20, 2007

front yard

We went to Dish for breakfast this morning. Enzo was kind of crazy, and just wanted to walk all over the restaurant. Around and around and around. He did eat some. It wouldn't have seemed so bad except there was another baby at the next table who just sat peacefully eating her breakfast for about 30 minutes. We stopped by Whole Foods to pick up some groceries and then headed home.

After Enzo's morning nap, we went to Toys R Us to spend a gift card that Enzo got for his birthday. We got some awesome stuff for the front yard. A little fort type thing with a slide, a water table, a ocean explorer set, and a tonka truck. Wow, the front yard was totally transformed into an Enzo playground in about five minutes. He was so stoked, loved the water table, got completely soaked right away. Tried and failed to put him down for a nap in the afternoon, I think too excited about all his stuff.

Metcalfs came over for BBQ tonight. Was fun to see Enzo with the other boys. He had a good dinner, and had a screeching competition with Gabe. After dinner, the boys played in the living room. Enzo even sat in Scott's lap while he read a book to Gabe. Wow.

Enzer was kind of hyped up from his exciting day, and didn't get to bed until 9:PM tonight.

May 19, 2007

first cut

Enzo and I had such a fun morning. We went to Peets for coffee and bagels. We shared lox and bagel, and a hot dogs bagel. Enzo likes capers. We thought about going to Gymboree, but I think it was closed so we skipped it and came home. I tried to put him down for a nap, but he only slept for about ten minutes. After his fake nap,we took the dogs to the dog park. As usual, Betty was the talk of the park because she is crazy.

We came home and played in the house for a while. I thought Enzo might want to take a real nap, but he just wanted to roll around with his blanket, read books, and try to open the toilet lid. When it became clear he wasn't going to sleep anytime soon, we went to South Pas to get some lunch, and then we had a picnic in the park.

Milestones: Enzo got his very first big boy haircut this afternoon.

Zoe called about an hour into Enzo's nap, so I grabbed him and went to the airport to pick her up. Enzo was happy to see mommy. We dropped off Zoe's stuff and then went across town to Little Kuts, a kid haircut place. They weren't too busy, so Enzo got a chair right away. Oh man, he was not happy about that woman cutting his hair, but we managed to make it through. He hair looks nice, but he looks so different. Really looks like a little boy now.

After haircut, we grabbed some Chinese to go, and had another picnic in the front yard. Enzo made a huge mess, but he had fun, and the dogs cleaned up. He got an early bath, some books read my mommy, and was ready for bed right on time.

May 18, 2007

yellow duck, blue duck

Enzo woke up early again, and was a little bit of a crank even after he took a nippy nap on my chest. We did our usual Friday routine. We get up, have our milk, and run the dogs out to PetSmart at 7:30AM. Of course we stopped by Starbucks for a coffee and croissant. Enzo munched his on the drive home. I didn't have much time to feed Enzo breakfast when we got back, so I cut up some fruit for Alex to give him. He was kind of fussy when I left.

Nanny Note: We played with blocks, read Rainbow Fish and Good Night Gorilla. After nap we went to Kidspace to play and have lunch and walk around the Rose Bowl.

Apparently Enzo had a good day (after his morning nap), and he was a lot of fun tonight. On the drive out to get the dogs Enzo ate a couple cookies and listened to music. We had a big piece of lasagna for dinner, and Enzo ate a lot very quickly. He loves to eat bites off the fork. We had a good long bath. Enzo laughed every time when I picked up his two ducks and said, "yellow duck, blue duck". He also thought it funny when I asked him if he had mmmmmeat! for dinner. Not sure why. We read some books before bed. He liked Not a Box tonight.

May 17, 2007

cindy's

Enzo was up again at 5:30AM, but fell asleep on my chest after his milk until almost 7:AM. I was so hungry, because I forgot to eat dinner last night, and was struggling tying to figure out what to make for breakfast, so decided to go out again. We went to Cindy's, this little diner down the street. I had eggs and hash, and Enzo got the dollar-sized hot cakes with a side of peaches. He was great, and the place is super kid friendly. Enzo was walking around waving a little pancake in the air, and no one even noticed. I cleaned up and left a big tip as per usual.

Nanny Note: We read books, played outside and watched Where the Wild Things Are. When Enzo woke up he was in a very bad mood. He didn't want to eat or play, he just wanted to be held. He ate a very small lunch. We went for a long walk and he seemed to feel better. We watched Goodnight Gorilla. After nap I checked his gums and noticed another tooth coming in at the bottom. We listened to music, danced, played with stacking cups, read Goodnight Gorilla and had a snack.

Enzo was in a good mood after work today. We had a very successful dinner of ravioli, corn and peas, and tater tots. He held his fork, and every time I stuck something on the end of it, he put the fork in his mouth and ate the bite. After dinner, we took the dogs for a good long walk up behind the house. Trash night though so Betty was stressing out about all the trash cans lining the streets. We took an early bath, which Enzo really enjoyed. Then we read some books, ate a few bites of watermelon, brushed our teeth, and went to bed a little after 8:PM.

May 16, 2007

watermelon

Enzo felt like snuggling after morning milk, so we stayed on the couch for about 30 minutes. After snuggling, Enzo and I went to Peets for breakfast and coffee. Enzo was really relaxed and had a good meal just sitting in his stroller. He even chewed on a whole pickle for a while. We got home just in time to clean up before Alex came.

Nanny Note: We walked over to Grandma Jean's to play and we watched the men working on Ave 64. After Enzo woke up, we came here for lunch and we also watched Sesame Street. We played outside for a while but Enzo kept eating sticks so we came inside to play and listen to music. After nap we went to Kidspace to play and that was fun, especially the part where Enzo got to eat animal cookies while playing in the water. He was such a mess that he got to have a bath when we got home. At the end of the day we listened to music, ate watermelon and went for a walk. Then we read more books....he sure likes Fish is Fish a lot.

I made Enzo some dinner of mac & cheese with tuna right when I got home from work. We're thinking that feeding him sooner will help him get through dinner without getting over upset. He seems to get over hungry and there's no bringing him back. It seemed to help tonight. He was pretty good in his chair and ate an OK dinner.

After dinner we went for a long backpack walk up around behind the house. Good exercise for dad. Enzo was fine in the pack for about 30 minutes. Gave him an early bath so I could be ready to put him to sleep at the first sign of crankiness. We read books for about 45 minutes. He loves Bruno Munari's ABC book. The W page shows a huge watermelon slice. Enzo loves watermelon and he gets very excited about this page. He literally sat and giggled at this page for 10 minutes. Every time I tried to turn the page, he would turn it back. Then I actually gave him a few bites of watermelon while he was looking at the watermelon page. Pure joy!

May 15, 2007

jetblue

Enzo woke up at 5:30AM this morning for some reason, but fell back asleep on my chest after his bottle for about an hour. We took the dogs to play fetch while Zoe got ready for work and made breakfast. Enzo didn't eat much this morning despite the stack of delicious french toast he was offered. That's what dad is for.

Nanny Note: We played with toys and read books. After nap we went to Gymboree. This is the last week of the session, so we did all our favorite things. When we got home, we ate lunch and watched Sesame Street, played outside and rode around the block in his red car. After nap we took a long walk, had a snack and played with toys. We read Fish is Fish, Five Monkeys, and Hungry Caterpillar and we listened to music. Enzo had a very good day and was very excited about seeing all his favorite trucks and he was very talkative all day.

This evening was a mad scramble to get Zoe to the airport. We packed and tried to eat some lame mexican food. Enzo ate a few bites and then decided he'd rather run around crazy in the house looking for small choking objects, sharp things, protruding corners, open cabinets, toilet paper, cat litter, electrical cords and outlets, remote controls, phones, stairs, small mammals, shoes, coins, magazines, dirty socks, eye glasses, and dog water.

In the car to the airport, Zoe and Enzo were having a back and forth screeching match. Enzo won. On the way home, Enzo chewed on the dog leash for a while, but then cried most of the way. He cried through his bath too, and he went straight to bed right at 8:PM.

May 14, 2007

wave your arms like a monkey

After our morning milk, Enzo and I took the dogs to the Rose Bowl. I threw the ball while Enzo sat in the new backpack. It went really well. Dogs were exhausted, and Enzo seems to enjoy his new perspective on the world. Zoe had a great breakfast waiting for us when we returned.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, read Axle Annie and rode his red car around the hill, and watched Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we had snack then went to KidSpace to play and eat lunch and walk around the park. After nap we went for a long walk and played outside and read books.

Enzo was in great mood after work today. We played out front and then watered the grass in the back while Zoe fixed us dinner. Enzo had a pretty good dinner of ribs and mac & cheese and peas. He stayed in his chair for longer than usual. During dinner Zoe got Enzo waving his arms like a monkey, just like in one of his favorite book. He got a kick out that. After dinner we went for a family walk around the block. After that Enzo rolled around in the living room with a blanket. Then bath, then books, then bed.

May 13, 2007

kelty

After our epic driving day yesterday, we decided to stay close to home today. We fed Enzo breakfast and then just hung around and played in the lounge and the front yard. Enzo took a nice morning nap while Zoe ran some errands and I did some yard work.

After nap, Enzo and I ran a quick errand, and than came home to eat some lunch. Zoe and I took Enzo to get his first haircut with video camera in hand. Unfortunately, the place closed early today, so Enzo escaped for another week. We stopped in next door and bought a Kelty kid carrier backpack thing. Enzo liked being carried around, so we walked down the street for an ice cream. He was actually kind of crazy for Zoe's ice cream.

After his afternoon nap, we all headed out to the dog park. I carried Enzo in the new pack, and he seemed pretty relaxed back there. We fed Enzo dinner when we got back, but it was a challenge. He wanted to eat while playing in the front yard rather sitting in his chair. He got tired early tonight, sort of upset right through his bath. Zoe read him some books and the he crashed right before 8:PM.

May 12, 2007

the o.c.

We went to Peets for coffee and breakfast this morning. Enzo didn't eat much because he was so busy walking all over the place - looking at birds and dogs, walking up stairs, and picking up cigarette butts.

After breakfast,we stopped by Gymboree for some rumpusing. Enzo had fun. He crawled up ladders, over obstacles, and slid down slides. He was ready to leave a few minutes early as per usual. Not sure why he does that.

We stopped by the house to pick up some things, and then we off to Orange County to visit a friend with a pool. The drive down was terrible, but at least Enzo got a quick nap in. Our friends brand new house was nice, and her pool was warmed up just for Enzo. He LOVED the pool. He walked around, floated around, dunked his face in a few times, and drank handfuls of water. He was in and out of the pool for a couple hours. Makes for some really wet diapers. The drive home was twice as bad as the drive down. Took 1hr 40min to get back. Every freeway was backed up. Ugh. Enzo and daddy took short naps.

Milestones: Enzo's next two bottom teeth made an appearance today.

We ordered some really bad Thai takeout for dinner because we were too tired to cook. It was incredibly lame, Enzo barely ate it either, and we gave most to the dogs. We gave Enzo an early bath because he was looking pretty tired after his big day. We went for a walk around the block with the dogs, and Enzo was ready to crash pretty soon after.

May 11, 2007

sona

Enzo and I headed out early to drop the dogs at ddc this morning. He had his usual Friday Starbucks croissant on the way home. Made it back in time to hang out with Zoe for a few minutes before Alex showed up. I tried feeding him some fruit, which he was indifferent about. Same damn peaches he was crazy for just last night.

Zoe and I went out to dinner with Li and Neil tonight to celebrate both of our anniversaries and Mothers Day. We didn't see a while lot of Enzo tonight. Just popped in after work to change. Enzo was fussy and clingy. Just hungry and missed us too. Traffics was insane in both direction, and dinner turned into a 4.5 hour trek. And we just went to the Westside.

May 10, 2007

mommy

Enzo was fussy this morning as he's been the last few. I struggled to get him to eat anything for breakfast, so I gave him some more milk. He settled down after that.

From work, I picked up Zoe at LAX and we went home. Zoe was nervous about how Enzo would respond to her after not seeing her for a week, but the moment she walked in the living room, he got a big smile on his face, pulled himself up and walked toward her to give her a hug. He was so excited.

Zoe and Enzo hung out for the rest of afternoon while I went back to the studio. They ate lunch and went to Gymboree. Enzo was so happy to have his mommy home that he didn't take an afternoon nap.

When I got home, we went to the farmers market for dinner. Enzo unenthusiastically ate a quesadilla and then devoured an entire yellow peach in about two minutes. He scraped the pit clean with his teeth, and cried when I took it away from him. Needless to say, we bought 10 more peaches. Soon he'll be sick of them.

He was very tired when we got home. Quick bath, some books, and down for the count.

May 09, 2007

finger puppet

Enzo was fussy and cried some this morning for no apparent reason. He was the same last night. I think Zoe being away has finally caught up with him. We had to go to the store this morning because we were out of milk. I decided to run over to Peets to grab a coffee and breakfast too. Kind of a mistake, it took so long. We didn't have time to sit and eat, and we barely made it back in time for Alex's arrival. She fed him breakfast, while I took a two hour conference call locked upstairs in the bedroom.

Nanny Note: We rode around in his car, played outside, read Rainbow Fish and Five Monkeys. After nap we watched Sesame Street, went for a walk, played with toys. Enzo took a short nap and then we played at Gymboree. Enzo had a good day and was in a great mood. At Gymboree he was surrounded by girls and he seemed fascinated by them. He had a good time climbing over obstacles, he is getting so fast.

Enzo didn't want to sit in his chair to eat dinner tonight, so we sat and read book on the couch while we ate instead. After dinner, we played in the front yard. We also practiced a few of his new tricks, so we are ready tomorrow to impress mommy. One trick Enzo learned tonight was putting a finger puppet on his own finger. The first time he did it, he was laughing out loud. He spend some time walking around the house with a little lion finger puppet stuck on his index finger. He went down without a fight around 8:30PM.

May 08, 2007

walkabout

Typical morning with Enzo, up at the usual time, morning milk followed by snuggling, then breakfast, then rumpusing. It's much easier to get things done around the house in the mornings now, I can leave Enzo to crawl and walk around the room without fear that he's going to get hurt (too badly).

Nanny Note: We read Polar Bear, Polar Bear and Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We went for a ride in his car, played with the bubbles machine and played with toys. After nap we went to Gymboree. Enzo had a good time but for some reason he is always ready to leave 15 minutes before class is over. After we had lunch we played outside with bubbles then we watched Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we played in the water and had a snack then took a walk.

Enzo was actually a bit of a crank after work tonight for a while. I didn't get him his dinner until 6:30PM, and I think he was over the edge by then. I briefly considered rolling the dice and trying to put him down at 7:30, but I'm glad I didn't. He finally calmed down around 7:45PM and then was in great mood until bedtime, walking all around the house again and again looking for stuff to get in to - dog food, dog water, toilets, stairs, electrical cords. I think the time has come to child proof the house. He has gotten so confident with his walking just in the last day or two. Walking is the number one mode now.

May 07, 2007

third time is a charm

Enzo woke up at his usual time today. After his milk, he rested his head on my chest for about 10 minutes which was very sweet. We had a nice breakfast and fruit and bagels. Enzo got a lot of cream cheese on the couch cover. We didn't do anything special, just some rumpusing in the living room waiting for Alex to show.

Nanny Note: We read books, took a ride in his car down to watch the construction workers work on the street, watched Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we took a long walk, played with blocks, watched Sesame Street and listened to music. We played at Kidspace after nap, then we came home and read Parts, More Parts, and Even More Parts, and played with bubbles outside and took a short walk.

Enzo was in a fine mood after work. We spend some time when I first got home just rolling around on the couch. I gave him some very big hugs, and he was giggling and laughing a lot. I put the batteries in the new bubble machine and we turned it on in the front yard. It really freaked him out to have 1000 bubbles come flying out of that thing straight at him. I turned it off after getting some video.

We ate lasagna dinner again and again he loved it. I think I've probably come to the end of the lasagna line though. I also made him peas, corn and french fries. He carried around french fries for the rest of the night, alternately eating them and smearing them into the couch and carpet. And of course feeding some to the dogs. Piece of cake putting him down right at 8:PM.

dino

After morning milk, we headed out to Peets again for bagels and an egg. Enzo spent a lot of time trying feed the sparrows this morning. He wiped cream cheese all over both of us by the time he was done. We stopped by two stores on the way home trying to find the right diapers. I got stuck behind two people in line who apparently have never been to the grocery store before, and it took forever. Enzo and I were not happy.

We swung by the house and picked up the mutts to go to the dog park around 9:AM. They were beside themselves with joy. Betty was flipping out in the back of the wagon when we pulled into the parking lot. I got a few comments about my multi-tasking abilities - throwing ball for two dogs, holding baby, picking up dog shit, taking photos, sending picture mail, and occasionally dousing the dogs with water to cool them down.

Solid morning nap when we got home. I tried to lay down for a few minutes also, but the minute I fell asleep, Mr starting yowling. I tried again with a pillow over my head, but then Enzo woke up about 15 minutes later. Oh well.

After nap we got some lunch in South Pas by the train tracks. Enzo and I shared a big piece of ham and cheese quiche. He ate most of it, along with a small bowl of fruit. We accidentally got an ice cream cone next door also. And then we drive down the street to the dinosaur toy store to see if Enzo needed anything. There were a lot of cool things there but mostly toys for older kids. We hung out for a while though, and Enzo played with and chewed on a number of different dinosaur species.

On the way home we stopped by the park. We just rolled around in the grass under a tree and played with a couple sticks for about 30 minutes. Such a beautiful afternoon, and Enzo was in the best mood.

After second nap, we went to the UHaul store to buy some boxes because daddy is trying to clean up the house and he needs something to put all of our stuff in. Stopped by the store again because I forgot milk the first time. Enzo munched on watermelon and apple slices the whole time driving around.

Back at the house we didn't do much. Laid in the front yard, snuggled on the couch, read some books, and watched some hockey. We talked to Zoe on the speaker phone which made him smile. I fed Enzo his dinner at 5:30PM, about an hour earlier than usual. It seemed to help. He devoured his lasagna, and fed himself with a fork a number of times while sitting in my lap. He was so excited that he ate another full plate of dinner. I thought it was the cutest thing until he suddenly spun around and jabbed me just below the eye with his big boy fork. Scared the hell out of me. End of that game.

After dinner and bath, Enzo ate a huge bowl of fruit as we rumpused on the couch and read books. Not sure what got in to him today, but he ate a lot of food. Not to mention he guzzled about 30 ounces of milk today too.

sleeping in

Mr starting yowling at 4:30AM and WOULD NOT STOP, so I grabbed the monitor, shut the bedroom door and put a pillow over my head. I finally fell back asleep around 5:30AM. When I woke up and saw that it was 7:30AM, I sort of panicked and practically ran into Enzo's room. I don't think he's ever slept that late before. And there he was curled up with his blanket sound asleep. He must have heard me come in though because he woke up about five minutes later.

We had our milk and then we left for Peets. Enzo had his usual Saturday morning lox & bagel and honeydew melon. After breakfast, we went to Gymboree. All the usual suspect there. The theme was Push again, and yes, Enzo hates pushing the big air tube. He was a little clingy but he had fun and did some good walking and climbing. I couldn't take many pictures because every time he sees my cell phone, he gets upset that he's not holding it. He didn't interact with the other kids too much today, except for taking away a truck from some other little boy. I pulled him out of the dreaded parachute spin ride thing, which upsets him every time. That seemed to help him finish up class in a good mood.

He tried to fall asleep in the car on the way home. I had a train and two detours on the way home, so I did a lot of loud singing to keep him awake. He played in the living room with Betty for about 30 minutes before getting fussy. It was hard to get him sleep. He kept waking up, and Betty barked once. Good thing I got a fresh new battery for the bark collar yesterday.

After nap we got lunch at a little chinese place next to the hardware store. Enzo loved his beefy noodles. We picked up a fence thing to keep the dogs off the newly planted grass seed in the backyard. We then headed out to REI to exchange my Crocs. Unfortunately there was a giant sale going on, and an hour wait for the register, so we left. Back to house for nap number two.

After a very short nip nap, we went to KidSpace. It was crowded, but we had fun anyway. He was walking all over the place in the indoor gym. Enzo had fun playing in the stream and looking at the bee hive. No train running today, but Enzo was soaking wet anyway. On the way out, I heard a little girl say to her mom, "I am not! I am not being negative!", which cracked me up.

Back at the house, Enzo and I played in the living room and out front while we waiting for the giant lasagna to cook that Zoe made before she left. Enzo was getting pretty hungry by the time it was done around 6:30PM. He really loved it, which is good because we'll be eating it for the next five days for lunch and dinner.

After bath, Enzo and I read some books. I brushed Enzo's teeth and then he was ready for bed. He actually kind of likes getting his teeth brushed. When he sees the brush he just sits there very still with his mouth open. So cute. He crashed pretty hard. Big day.

kisses

Enzo and I rolled out of bed and took the dogs to day care. Gardeners and cleaning crew here today. Enzo and I stopped in Starbucks and grabbed a coffee and a croissant, which Enzo happily munched on the drive home. We only had a few minutes back at the house before Alex came.

Nanny Note: We read books, watched Where the Wild Things Are. After nap we went for a walk then we played outside. We had lunch at at Wild Oats then played at Grandma Jean's house. Enzo took a nap at her house and when he woke up we came home. We read more books watched Where the Wild Things Are and watched the tree trimmers next door. Enzo was so excited, he could hardly contain himself. After that was we walk in his car and then we played with bubbles.

Enzo and I headed out to pick up the dogs right when I got home. He liked watching the dogs through the glass at PetSmart. On the way home, Enzo was trying hard to close his eyes and take a nippy nap, but I shouted, sang, whistled, and clapped my hands to keep him awake. Kind of freaked out the dogs though. Enzo didn't eat much for dinner tonight, but I think he had a big lunch. Just wasn't hungry.

We sat and read books after his bath. I gave him a cracker to eat and a few bites of watermelon. He kept leaning over and giving me kisses, like maybe 20 kisses in about ten minutes. It was very sweet, until the last one when he he bit me on the cheek.

After his morning milk at around 6:30AM, Enzo fell asleep on my chest for about another hour. I don't think he's ever done that before. I guess he was tired because he went to bed a little late last night. Because he slept in so late, we didn't have much time together. I was feeding him a bowl of Cheerios with milk when Alex came.

Nanny Note: We went to Gymboree this morning. The theme all week is Push. Pushing things of different sizes and weights works on proprioceptive skills. Enzo was not crazy about having to push the big air bag or air ball around. After nap we played with bubbles outside and ate lunch. We watched Sesame Street and then went to Kidspace. There were a lot of kids Enzo's age to play with today. We read The Very Busy Spider, played with balloons, and wiped the house with a towel.

Crazy night tonight, running around getting Zoe packed and then off to the airport. Zoe didn't to spend much time with Enzo because we were running late. She tried to feed him some dinner on the way to the airport, but he didn't eat much. Dropping Zoe off was rough. Enzo and I both miss her already and she just left a few hours ago.

Enzo was tired and hungry and lonely in the back seat, and he cried the whole way home and through his bath too. I thought about putting him to sleep at 7:30PM because he was in such bad shape, but I brought him downstairs to see how he'd do. We read some books and I fed him some more dinner. He really rallied after getting some bites. In fact he rallied for another 90 minutes and again didn't go to bed until after 9:PM. He was a lot of fun though, just being goofy and laughing. Enzo loves to be chased and startled. He was really excited and screeching tonight when I was crawling after him in the living room.

vet

Enzo woke up at 4:AM this morning for some reason. I tried and failed to put him back to sleep in the crib so we snuggled on the rocker for a while, and he slept for a couple more hours. We had a nice morning with him. He had his usual soggy bagel and fruit for breakfast.

Nanny Note: We read Where the Wild Things Are and played outside for a while. After nap we watched Where the Wild Things Are and we played outside again. We played with bubbles and listened to music. After nap we went to Gymboree. Enzo was the loudest today. He was so happy and excited, walking all over the place. He has been making monster noises all day ever since we watched Where the Wild Things Are.

After work, Enzo and I took Harriet to the vet. She hurt her knee the other day and is still limping very badly. Enzo had fun watching the fish in the big tank in the lobby of the office. We attempted dinner when we got back, but Enzo was kind of a crank and didn't eat a whole lot. After bath, we read books and had round two dinner of cereal, fruit and bagel. Figures the rare night Zoe is on call that Enzo decides to stay up 90 minutes later than usual. He was flaming around the house all night. He crashed hard once I finally put him down, and didn't drink much of his bottle. Expecting him up later tonight again.

working at home

Typical morning with Enzo. Munched on some fruit and bagel for breakfast. We just played around the house and outside until Alex came. There was a big protest downtown right near the studio, so I worked at home today. I had to hide upstairs all day so Enzer didn't know I was home. A couple times he spotted me as I went up and down the stairs, but I tried not to engage him.

Nanny Note: We played with toys. After nap we went to Gymboree. Enzo was in a very good mood. He made friends with a cute little girl named Isabella. Enzo was fascinated with the buttons on her dress. At home we ate lunch outside, played in the water and read books before nap. After nap we took a long walk and then had a snack, played ball with Betty, and played with Blankie.

Zoe made a nice dinner for us tonight. As per usual, Enzo was OK in his chair for about 15 minutes, and then he finished up his dinner in our laps and walking around the backyard. He got tired again early tonight. He has on a new pair of funny pajamas tonight. Have to get a photo in the morning.
