jump

We went out for an early family breakfast this morning. Enzo was having a crazy hair day, which made him that much more cute.

Alex came by for a bit to watch Enzo, and then I took him to school. We had a lot of fun today. He was in the best mood. He sort of played with the new boy, Aidan, in class. He was walking around with two brooms, and very sweetly offered one to him. Then they rocked together on the see-saw thingy. He sat for a long time eating his snack, and then we had fun jumping from hay bale to hay bale again. He yelled "jump!" as he stepped from one to the next. During closing circle, Enzo came soooo close to doing trot to trot with Miss Adrienne, but chickened out at the last second.

Nanny Note: Before nap we read books. When Enzo woke up from nap we had a snack and played outside. We watched Knuffle Bunny and listened to music. I gave him some milk in a sipper cup, and he seemed OK with that.

Zoe swung by and picked Enzo and me up after work, and we went to get some Chinese. The food took forever to come. Enzo was getting antsy but managed to eat some before asking for "down. down."

Back home, we watched a video for a few minutes, and then bath. Enzo was again very sweet tonight. He and mommy sang Happy Birthday, and Enzo says "you!" and the end of each line. He also busted out his insane knowledge of animals, saying "nautilus" for the first time.

January 30, 2008

trees

Enzo tried to eat a bowl of cereal again with mommy. He got a little excited about, and ended up getting cereal all over the place. Maybe breakfast on the couch was not a great idea.

Nanny Note: We played toys, took a short walk, played with playdough and colored. We played with toy kitchen and read books. Enzo ate his lunch while I read more books and then we sang some songs. We watched a bit of his John Deere for kids then had more books upstairs before nap. After nap we had a snack then we went to the construction site by the Ambassador and then we played at Singer Park.

Enzo was in a fine mood when we got home from work and was hungry and ready for dinner. He had some noodles, broccoli ("trees") that he dipped in some Japanese kewpie mayo that he kept calling ketchup. He ate a lot of broccoli. We are nervous for tomorrow.

After dinner we shared a family bowl of ice cream while he played in his kitchen and trains. He took a long time pulling apart and putting together his automoblox. We had our usual bath, milk, then books.

He is able to finish the sentences of many of his books, which means that we are reading the same ones to him over and over and should probably look into getting some more books! He has been singing happy birthday a lot lately, and always talks about blowing out a "candle" because he saw Wes do that few days ago. We can't believe that in a short 3 months we will be doing that for Enzo, too.

January 29, 2008

one book

Enzo woke up chipper again and we had a nice family breakfast of eggs and toast and sausage. Enzo loves to "dip". After breakfast Enzo got into trouble because he threw some of his paint around and got a time out. It did not seem to bother him too much. After cleaning all the paint off his face, wall, table and chair, Enzo asked for some milk. So we sat on the couch, and we looked at a book about reptiles.

Nanny Note: We played at the park and went to school. Early in the class, Enzo asked for milk and I gave him his bottle but it started leaking. I took it away and Enzo got really upset. We all tried to console him and get him interested in something else but it was no good. We left at snack time and Enzo got new milk and fell asleep. After nap we had snack and books and went to the library for more.

When mommy and daddy got home from work, he was super excited to see them both. We read some books, daddy took him on a walk with the dogs in the backpack - Enzo has recently decided he doesn't mind the backpack so much, then had some dinner. He had a pop then we played in his kitchen then played with his firetruck. It is hilarious to listen to him play by himself, muttering all kinds of crazy things like "man. sitting. climbing. happen? uh-oh. bear. mud. lady"

He is really starting to string more and more words together. We can see his imagination working - he put his monkey on his bird and said "monkey flying. copter" He loves to hear us telling him stories - the crazier and sillier the better, especially if it involves Harriet, Betty or Mr. We had a nice bath, then the usual milk, then books, then poop. I told him to pick out one last book before "teeth", and after that book, I said "ok, time for teeth", and then he got upset, and through his fake tears asked for "one book?". So he got his one book, and then teeth, and then bed.

parachute

Enzo and I drove to breakfast this morning in the rain. He wore his new Josie sweatshirt. He sat quietly playing with his fish and fireman while happily munching sausages. Half way through breakfast, he looked up and asked for a hug.

Nanny Note: We started the day playing with toys. We read Too Much Noise! Enzo makes all the noises just right. We played with his fire truck, listened to music and painted. We took a walk around the neighborhood looking for puddles to splash in, then we had story time before nap. When Enzo woke up he ate some more of his lunch. After nap and snack we went to watch the crane then we came home for art and play.

Enzo was sooo sweet tonight. He cracked a few eggs for mommy's quiche, and then asked to iChat with A-Ma. When we said goodbye to A-Ma and closed the computer, he asked to then speak to Gramma Dee. So we did. Enzo played his new guitar and told them both about his lunch and his day at the park.

Enzo ate a giant dinner of noodles and some other bits. IN the middle of dinner he said "hug. kiss." and we both got one. He sat at the table with mommy finishing off a pop and some raisins for dessert. When then watched some bats, and some guys base jumping off a cliff with "parachutes". We tried to explain to Enzo that you shouldn't jump without a parachute, but not quite sure he got it. Maybe because he kept yelling "jump" and diving into the pillows on the couch.

We took an early bath. Mommy and Enzo sang Do-Re-Mi from the Sound of Music. Enzo knows the words pretty well, "Sew, a needle pulling ____". Then they sang Alligators All Around.

After bath, we all read a bunch of books together. He pressed the squeaky duck button in 10 Little Rubber Ducks about 30 times. He did some drawing on his erase board, and then got very serious playing with his wooden stacking chicken.

January 27, 2008

wolf

Enzo and mommy shared a bowl of cereal on the couch to start our day, and it was very precarious because Enzo is starting to insist on doing everything himself - "Enzo do it". He is not very good at feeding himself milky cereal. We did our grocery shopping early and Enzo was running around like a wild animal in the store. This is why we go early in the morning.

We hung out at home for most of the morning because it has been raining pretty hard all weekend. We ran some other errands in old Pasadena and Enzo went down for a nap soon afterwards. We had lunch and then watched “whale shark” on Planet Earth.

We went to Wesley's 2nd birthday party, and Enzo liked riding on daddy's shoulders on the way up there. Enzo ate part of a marshmallow, a lot of frosting, some cheese, then drank some chocolate milk. He ran home crazed afterwards in the rain looking for the “wolf” (our neighbors husky puppy), and then we knocked him around on our bed upstairs.

He did not do well with dinner, and even got a time out because he threw his spoon on the ground. Unfortunately, he seemed to sort of enjoy his time out. When he came back to the table, he discovered there is “sausage” inside the spring rolls, and was pretty happy about that.

After dinner, he played in his kitchen making a cheeseburger and fries for his monkey. Right before bath, he picked up the phone to call "Dee", then he told her the story of the "elf", with some prompting.

January 26, 2008

sliding

Enzo woke up in a fine mood and we had a nice, but chilly, breakfast at heirloom. We took turns walking him around the block, and down the underground parking structure ramp, where he likes to stand and yell, “echo”.

After breakfast we got him a Jamba Juice and headed off to the park - we spent a long time there chasing squirrels, swinging, climbing on all the equipment and sliding down the big boy slide. Enzo has gotten much more physically confident and he was delighted with himself that he was sliding so well.

After the park, we went home to hang out with the puppies and watch a bit of Nemo. We visited Wes and her daddy at their house, and after awhile he just stopped what he was doing, walked to the door, and said, "home". He was ready to leave!

He took a nap, then had a nice iChat with Dee and Buzz and Grampy, although Enzo was not in a particularly chatty mood. We ran some errands in Silver Lake. We went into a funky toy store and he was fascinated with a cheap kiddie guitar, but he plays it like a sitar. He also got a super cute little Taro Gomi monkey.

Wes and her daddy came over for dinner, and everyone enjoyed mommy's highbrow spaghetti-o's with mini homemade meatballs. Wesley impressed us most of all because she ate almost as much as mommy.

After dinner, we went to La Canada to meet the Metcalfs for Pinkberry. We saw a some fire trucks parked on the road - the firemen were getting dinner at a takeout place - and Enzo got to examine the trucks up close. He remarked that they were “big” and “red”, and they a “hose” for the “water”. Enzo, Luke and Gabe got yelled at for jumping on the plastic lighted rock-like seats outside of Pinkberry. They didn’t really seem to care though, and kept doing it anyway.

After dessert, we went home and took a nice bath. Enzo now loves to tell us the story of the "elf" (which is really the goblin from one his Little Bear books). He always starts by saying, "one day" then says "elf. walking. woods. cave. bump. jump shoes! run. pit pat. tree. peek out. eeeee!" Sometimes when he tells the story, the elf is walking through the woods with his dog Harriet.

January 25, 2008

zippity zound

Zoe got in some snuggling and a few books first thing this morning, be fore she had to leave for the OR. I made Enzo a nice breakfast of sausage which he didn't eat. I tried to clean up the house and do some dished while we waited for Alex to arrive, but Enzo wasn't having any of that. He squeezes in between the kitchen counter and your legs, and slowly pushes you away until you can't reach the counter. "Too?" he says, as in I want you to come too.

I came back from downtown around 3:PM and Alex go, because she was coming back to babysit at 8:PM. I scooped up Enzo and we went to pick up the dogs. Of course we had to stop to see the "turdles" and the fish and the cats, as we walked through the store.

Wes and Eric came over for a bit when we got home. Enzo is starting to get more and more possessive about his toys and things. There were a few tugging matches over some play kitchen items that ended in tears.

It was getting late so I made Enzo some noodles before Zoe got home. He was in his chair slurping them down when he heard the garage door go up. His face lit up, "mommy!". He was so happy to see her. Zoe sat with him while he finished up and then they read some books together. She sang him Alligators All Around, and much to her surprise, Enzo knows the words to song from A to Z. She would sing "B, bursting ___", he would say, "balloons!" and on and on, right down to "Z, zippity zound". It blew our minds.

We got him to bed right as Alex was pulling up to the house, and then we went out to a great dinner at Lucques across town.

January 24, 2008

wink

After a silly game of "sleep", Enzo and I headed out to get some breakfast. We were short on time, so we popped into Cindy's for the usual. Enzo pointed out the owls to the waitress as he does every time.

We planned on stopping by a pre-pre-school for a tour, but it turned out to be lame and in a sketch part of town, so we bailed. Instead we went to get a Jamba Juice and a coffee. Enzo danced around the Jamba Juice while we waited for our smoothie. After, we stopped by Vromans to browse the kids books, and then to PetCo to see the turtles and cats. Then it was time for school.

Enzo had so much fun today at school. I was happy to see that there's another boy in the class this semester, and apparently another boy joining the class next week. Enzo was in great mood, and very talkative and cute. He said all the kids names today - walking around singing "Lexi. Lexi Lexi", one of the girls in class. Halfway through class, he went to the bathroom door, and tried to open it. I asked if he needed to use the potty, he said yes, and then we went in to sit on the potty. Miss Adrienne was very impressed. After snack, Enzo played in the rain, trying to jump from hay bale to hay bale. He was inspired by the new boy in class, who is a little older and could jump very well.

Nanny Note: We read Babar. I put him to bed but he really didn't sleep so I took him in the car.

Alex took Enzo for a couple hours after I got him home. When they got back to the house, Zoe was already home from work. Enzo was so happy to see her, and shrieked "mommy!"

During dinner, Enzo iChatted with A-Ma. He thanked her for the box of yummy snacks from Japan. After, we went to Target to pick up some stuff. Enzo has got the eagle eye for anything with a Nemo on it. And if you don't stop to let him see that thing, be prepared to pay the price.

Enzo and mommy read some books, and then we took a bath. Enzo asked mommy to "wink". One of those things that he comes up with almost every day that makes us think, where did he learn that? After bath, we read some more books. Enzo gave us all hugs, including Harriet and Betty, before going to bed.

January 23, 2008

humpback

Enzo woke up at 6:30 and then went back to sleep for another 30 minutes. Zoe cooked Enzo pancakes and sausages for breakfast this morning. I took a video of him saying "sausage" because the way he says it is so cute. Enzo had been a great streak with the potty, and this morning was no exception. It's been a few days since we've changed a poopy diaper.

Nanny Note: We played with toys and he was fixated on the toy kitten for a while. We played with playdough and painted with dots, then we played outside. Enzo ate most of his lunch. While he was eating we read Yertle the Turtle. After nap, we went to the library and to Amy's.

Zoe is on call tonight, so after Alex left, Enzo and I sat for leftover pasta dinner. He was happy to have it again. Then we had grapes and a pop. We stayed at the table drawing with markers for a long time. Enzo will scribble some crazy mess on a blank sheet of paper, then sit back and declare "fish!" or "cat!"

We played with trains, then read the goblin story, and then played with his little toob animals. We went through them all one by one. His favorites in the pile tonight were the "tip shark" (black tip reef shark) and the "hupback" whale and the "hedgehog".

I think we set a record for the longest bath ever tonight. We started dumping water from one cup to the another and then into the bucket (and a couple times on Enzo's head). And it went on and on forever. I finally dragged him out of the bath at almost 8:PM. We read Swimmy four times, then Carrot Soup, and then to bed.

January 22, 2008

nemone

Enzo slept 12 hours last night, which was great, but Zoe only had a minute with him before work. I tried taking him to breakfast but it was so late we took our food to go, and he ate with Alex when we got back to the house.

Nanny Note: We played in the kitchen, took my dog for a walk and played at Amy's. We had snack once we got home then we read books and watched Knuffle Bunny. I took Enzo to Kidspace after nap but when I gave him a bottle it leaked all over his shirt so we came home and watched Nemo for a few minutes and then we played with his kitchen.

After work, Enzo wanted to help Zoe make dinner. He asked to "crack", so we set him up with a bowl and a few raw eggs. What a great idea! After filling the bowl with egg whites, he wanted a spoon to "mix". We added some flour, and then Enzo added some goldfish crackers, popcorn and peanut butter ritz. He sat on the counter and mixed in his bowl for a long time.

At dinner we asked him about his day and what he did. He paused, and said "allie. bounce. slide. run. house." (which was a description of his time at Amy's Playground). We asked him who he saw at Amy's. He said, "kids. baby. cry." We asked what books he read that day, and he said "bear", and then made Zoe tell the Going On a Bear Hunt story four times. We asked what else he did today, and he said "mud. wet. cold."

I ran to get milk, while Zoe and Enzo and watched Max in his "wolf suit" tame the Wild Things. Zoe presented Enzo with his hand-me-down clownfish tub toy which Gabe and Luke so generously donated. He was happy to "have it" but immediately asked if we had a Dory toy. Zoe asked him where Nemo lives, and he said "nemone" and giggled.

After bath, Enzo sat for many books. He read along with us. He liked the parts of Go Dog Go about the hats. Zoe would ask, "Do you like my hat?" And he would reply, "No!" He was also looking through this little ocean book, when he pointed to the dolphins tail, and said "fluke".

January 21, 2008

time

Moomy was up and off to the OR early this morning, so Enzo and I went to Cindy's for pancakes. As usual he ate a big breakfast, and as usual he was talking to some random person in the next both. He was narrating his meal to this poor guy who was just trying to eat and read the paper — "pancake. peaches. sausage." We stopped to look at the owl decoys on the way to the car.

Nanny Note: We read books, played in his kitchen and painted. We listened to music and then we watched Nemo and then we listened to Cajun music while we played with trains. After nap we read more books and went to Kidspace but there were too many people there so we played at the park. When we got home, we listened to music and played with playdough, then watched Blue Planet. I think Enzo is a bit tired. He is getting frustrated easily today.

I made Enzo the same pasta as last night, and he ate a bunch again. And said, "mmmm". He was soooo excited to see mommy when she came through the door. She came to sit at the table, and Enzo asked for a hug and kiss. After dinner, Enzo played for a long time with his train. We just sat and watched him talk to his trains, and little people.

After bath, Zoe read books. After a while, Enzo stood up and said "time?" Zoe asked "time for what?", and he said "bed". So in he went.

January 20, 2008

bolognese

We started out the day with an early morning run to Whole Foods. Enzo and I sat down for breakfast, while Zoe finished up our weekly shopping. There two other couples with kids the same age were sitting near us doing the same thing. Enzo sat oblivious, stuffing turkey links sausage in his mouth. On the way home we stopped for a Jamba Juice.

Before nap, we played in the backyard. Enzo sat in the swing while daddy picked up three days worth of dog poop. After nap, we watched some of the Patriots game, and Zoe played "unstable" with Enzo. Zoe realized she was missing some ingredients so Enzo and I drove to the store. We played in the backyard again. Enzo was busy when throwing the ball for Betty, when he stopped in his tracks, pointed at the ground and said "poop!"

Wes and Eric stopped by for a bit. She was supposed to have her 2nd birthday party today, but it was canceled because her mom wasn't feeling well. Enzo got upset when Wes got in his swing, so we came inside to play in Enzo's new kitchen and with the train.

Zoe spent the afternoon making an insane bolognese from the Chez Panisse cookbook. Enzo really loved his pasta and sauce. He sat quietly eating for a while, and then looked up and said "mmmmm, good". That made Zoe's day.

We attempted a run to the bookstore but Enzo was getting sleepy, and asked to go home. So we did. After bath, we read him a few books. He continues to surprise us with how much he's memorized from each one — saying the book titles, finishing sentences, and always knowing what's coming on the next page.

January 19, 2008

montana

We had another great day with auntie Shellie and grandma Susie. The day started out awesome because Enzo slept in until 7:30! We had breakfast at Heirloom, then headed off to Santa Monica.

We tootled around the pier and the beach for awhile then went for a walk and lunch on Montana. Enzo took a little nap in between, and was very cute during lunch in his stroller - giggling and saying "gramma Susie" over and over the whole time. He was happy to play with his stuffed eagle ray that grandma Susie got him. We did a little shopping with Shellie then went home.

When we got home, we played in his kitchen and then watched some Planet Earth. In the middle of it, he said, "cuddle" and mommy asked him if he felt like cuddling. He answered yes and then mommy asked him if he felt like cuddling with auntie Shellie or grandma Susie, to our eternal shock, he turned to them, answered yes, then crawled into Shellie's lap. After a little while he crawled into Susie's lap.

Shellie requested In-n-Out burgers for dinner, and we were stoked to have an excuse to have it for dinner. Enzo was insane during dinner – bouncing all around the booth. When we got home, it was getting close to bath time, so Shellie and Susie headed back to their hotel. Enzo was very sweet and hugged and kissed both of them goodbye.

We had a bath, some milk and books, a giant poop on the potty, then more books. Off to bed right on time. It was great to have Shellie and Susie around this weekend. Enzo really loved them both.

January 18, 2008

look. close.

Wow, big day today. We picked up Susie and Shellie on our way to drop off the dogs, then stopped by to pick up a Jamba Juice for a certain someone.

We ate breakfast in the valley. Enzo loved sitting in the back seat with Shellie on the drive out there, reading his animal encylopedia. Shellie, on the other hand, just about vomited from reading in the back seat for 30 minutes. We had a fun breakfast, and then did some baby shopping with Shellie. We found a lot of great stuff, including the best double jogging stroller, which Zoe secretly bought for her.

Enzo fell asleep on the way over to hospital, where Zoe scanned the twins. He woke up as we drove into the parking structure after only a ten minute nap. Turns out that was the only sleep he would have all day. I stayed with Enzo in the car, reading books and listening to music, while the girls went in to the hospital. The twins look good apparently. On the way home, Susie took over reading duties in the backseat. Zoe had to stay and work this afternoon.

Back home, we hung around the house. Enzo sat on the couch with Shellie and Susie for the longest time - sitting in their laps, reading books, showing off his animal collection, and eating a big snack. He dragged them both into his kitchen, and then upstairs to read more books. It was great to see him so relaxed and sweet around them both. The four of us ran out to pick up the dogs. Enzo and Susie read more books in the back. He was impressing us all saying all his animal names.

Zoe brought home a pasta and pizza dinner. Enzo ate quickly and then asked for a pop. We kept him at the table with his dot paints. He was really in to it. He said "wow!" after completing each work, and made us all "look. close." at each one.

Enzo gave Shellie and Susie each a big hug and kiss when they left tonight. Enzo watched Nemo for a few minutes, and then took an early bath. He was really fading. After two consecutive 60 page Little Bear books, I put him in his crib. He cried a bit tonight, which is unusual. For about 15 minutes, he stood in his crib saying - "daddy. mommy. down. milk. nemo. books. no." - over and over. Poor tired little bear.

January 17, 2008

gramma susie

Enzo had breakfast with mommy before she headed off to work. Enzo and I then drove down to Eagle Rock to get a Jamba Juice. We stopped at the gas station to go through the car wash and vacuum out the car. Back home, we just played in the new kitchen and goofed, waiting for Auntie Shellie and Grandma Susie.

Enzo took their arrival completely in stride, and within a few minutes, he was showing them books and the kitchen and the chalkboard. And talking up a storm. He was just so cute and sweet, and relaxed. Soon after, we all piled in the car and went out to lunch. Enzo was running around all over the place, but managed to eat something. He fell asleep on the way home, so I put him in the crib for a long nap.

After nap, Enzo and I played downstairs - listening to music, dancing, eating snacks, playing in the kitchen, and watching some Nemo.

Susie and Shellie came back over about the same time Zoe got home from work. Enzo loved his new crazy eyes fish book from Susie, and he made us sit around and go through many times. We ate dinner at home. Enzo was saying "susie" and "shellie" and gnawing on a riblette. We all drove up to Pinkberry for desert. The music was blaring, and Enzo was dancing up a storm.

We took a late bath, and brushed our teeth with non-fluoride toothpaste.

January 16, 2008

what's cooking?

Enzo woke up missing mommy this morning. He wouldn't leave the house for breakfast without taking a picture of mommy and daddy from Italy we have up in the kitchen. On the drive to Cindy's, he looked at the picture, saying "mommy. daddy" over and over.

We had a good breakfast. The waitress was impressed that Enzo could say, "pancakes. peaches. sausage." On our way out, we stopped at the counter to pay. Enzo asked to sit in one of counter stools, so I let him. He bellied up to the counter, put both elbows down, looked up at the waitress, and said, "coffee?"

Nanny Note: We went to Kidspace. Enzo rode a tricycle, climbed the tower, touched Sherman, read books about the ocean, saw a Milli show (our millipede), drew with chalk and had lots of fun digging for fossils. After nap we listened to music and had snack.

Zoe and I ran some errands this afternoon, one of which was a trip to a Santa Monica toy store to buy Enzo a kitchen set. We got him a little counter top too, some pots and pans, and some more wooden food. It was all set up and ready to go when he got back with Alex. He was so stoked that he sat and played for two hours, with a short break for pasta dinner.

After bath, we read books and played with some little people we also got him today. He asked to go back down to play in the kitchen, but it was time for bed.

January 15, 2008

school visit

We started the day brushing our teeth in Enzo's room. He really loves to brush himself, but does a pretty poor job at it. Mainly just likes to slurp down the toothpaste. He got pretty upset when we took the toothbrush away from him. Hey, the kid really loves to brush his teeth.

We all went out to breakfast, although mommy had to leave after a few minutes for work. Enzo ate another huge breakfast. He really liked his pesto bowties, although it took me a minute to convince him that it was noodles ("loonles").

After breakfast, I took Enzo to tour another Montessori school near us. We went in the 2 to 3 yo class, and stayed for a bit. Enzo was hesitant at first, but relaxed when he spotted a book about fish on the shelf. I sat with the director for a long time talking about the school and the philosophy. We looked in the 3-4 class also, but Enzo was anxious to go explore the school playground so we went and did that.

We drove across town to grab a Jamba Juice and then went to our Waldorf class. He did great today. Class was really mellow, with no altercations. Enzo was very talkative. He did OK with snack, but dumped it in the bin prematurely and then regretted it. After we all go outside to play. All the girls played in the little house and on the swing, while Enzo sat in the mud pit digging. Such a boy.

He fell asleep on the way home, and I transfered him into the crib. He was asleep when Alex came to relieve me.

Nanny Note: Enzo woke up crying "no!". I brought him downstairs, put on Nemo and gave him a snack. He cheered up quickly. He sounds a bit congested so I gave him OJ and water today. We played at Kidspace a while.

After my meeting downtown, I stopped by the house to pick up Enzo, and we drove to the valley to eat dinner with mommy at the hospital. He was very happy to see mommy, and ate a good dinner of the usual Thai. He spent a lot of time playing on the phone, trying to call "Dee". Mommy made the mistake of telling him the story of the elf that got so scared that he jumped out his shoes. He asked her to repeat it about six times. He got upset when we said goodbye to mommy and the elevator door closed.

He couldn't have been easier for me tonight. He sat quietly in the backseat on the way home reciting animal names and eating some old crackers from a crevice in his car seat. At home, we ate a quick pop, and then took a long hot shark infested bath. It was getting late so we only read a couple books before bed at 8:15PM.

January 14, 2008

dump

Enzo was sad to see mommy leave so early for the OR this morning. He and daddy had a nice breakfast at Cindy's. He ate a shocking amount of sausage.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, colored with crayons, listened to music, and took a short walk to visit with Mary and play in the neighbor's yard. When we got home we watched Blue Planet. I made him pizza, tater tots and grapes for lunch. He dipped the pizza in the ketchup and used his tater tots as paintbrushes. He ate his grapes. After lucnh, he swept the house and helped with laundry. For some reason he woul dnot take a nap so we left. We went to the park to hike on the trail then we came home to listen to music. For some reason, Enzo thinks "pardon you" is very funny today.

When mommy got home Enzo was strumming a small frying pan like a guitar. He is able to have a semi-conversation now, when we asked him about his day, he answered, "hike! frogs!" We took the dogs for a walk through the neighborhood and said hi to neighbors and wandering cats, then had dinner.

We watched some Nemo and had a bath. Enzo asked daddy if he could dump a bucket of water on daddy's head, and daddy made him dump one on himself first - he closed his eyes and dumped a huge bucket of water on his head and boy was he surprised. We couldn't get him to do it again.

We read a lot of books then played with blocks and animals. He was super tired tonight and went to bed without a peep or request.

January 13, 2008

pengie

Enzo woke up after playing his music to himself for awhile, then he started saying, "daddy?" so we knew he was ready for some milk. We headed out for some breakfast where Enzo picked out all the grapes and pears from his fruit salad.

We had a nice ichat with grandma Dee and grampy Buzz and Josie, and watched some football. We went for a walk to see the ducks and coots; unfortunately someone had been there just before us and the ducks and coots were pretty much full. Enzo gnawed on some of their old bread on the way home.

He had some lunch of shark and whale shaped PB&J and took a nap. Li, Neil, and little Elijah came over for a playdate and some chili and more football. We lent Elijah Enzo's old radio flyer walker, but as soon as it came out of the garage, Enzo swooped down on it like a long lost friend. He wheeled his stuffed rabbit and hammerhead around for awhile and played with another old toy we pulled out for Elijah - it was a relief to see how much Enzo has grown in a year. He was pretty sweet to Elijah after we explained that Elijah was littler than he was.

After they left, daddy and Enzo went to pick up the dogs and we played outside for awhile. He liked his dinner (and lunch) of chili and rice. After some Planet Earth penguins ("pengie") we took a bath and read some books.

He is definitely still spooked by the elf and the Bear Hunt book, even though mommy tried to put a happy spin on it by explaining that the bear was going home with the family to eat some cake. Enzo seemed to feel a little better about it, but still kept saying that he was scared. Right before we put him in his crib, however, in his usual ruse to try to squeeze a few more minutes of awake time, he asked for "cake"? and "pengie"?

meltdown

We started our morning with some waffles. Enzo is really starting to let us know when he has to go to the bathroom, and we had a successful morning on the potty; unfortunately he loves to flush and flushes 2 or 3 times before we manage to wrestle him out of the bathroom. Enzo had some fun swinging on his swings and playing outside.

Enzo and daddy walked up to a bakery nearby to meet up with Wes and her parents. Once mommy got herself ready, she picked us up and we all went to the west side to run some errands. We were at a store that had a little stone elf and cat and dog outside; Enzo refused to go in the store because he was so fascinated with these things. He checked for shoes on the elf.

We had lunch at a place in Culver City specializing in different types of grilled cheese sandwiches called Meltdown, appropriately enough, since Enzo was having one when we got out of the car. He got over it pretty quickly, though and we had a nice walk around and a good lunch.

When we got home, we watched a little Nemo and read some books. Enzo took a nice nap, and afterwards we watched some football, had another snack, and played quietly with his animals. Mommy did the grocery shopping and made dinner - Enzo ate a ton of peas tonight.

We had a fun bath, had some milk and read a bunch of books – its interesting that he got scared tonight while we were reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt - we had not read that in awhile, and it seems like now that he is understanding the point of the story a little better, he is scared of it. He closed the book just as the bear appeared and said "no, scared". Mommy re-read the book in a happy voice and tried to put a cheerier spin on it and he seemed ok with that. He still did not want to see the goblin from the book last night.

neko

Zoe had the morning off, so we took Enzo out for breakfast in Old Pas after dropping off the dogs. Enzo and I walked around on the sidewalk looking in store windows, while Zoe went in to order. He really liked the lucky cat in the window of the Japanese paper shop. Zoe taught him that the Japanese word for cat is "neko", so he said that 50 times. Enzo already had a lot of milk, so he wasn't too interested in eating much.

We went in to a few shops and bought Enzo a little stuffed owl, some more cookie cutters to make cute pb&j sandwiches, and a book about standing up to pee. He wanted to fall asleep on the way home, but we kept him up. Alex was waiting for him, and swept him off to the park.

Nanny Note: We played at Lacy Park from 12:30 to 2:30. We got a sandwich at Munch Co. in S Pas, then we came home to watch Nemo.

We had an early dinner tonight of noodles. And then drove up to La Canada for some Pinkberry yogurt. Enzo fell and hit his head on the stone floor of the shop, but luckily mommy had just gotten her yogurt, so Enzo stopped crying pretty quickly. We sat and ate too much, then drove home.

We watched a few more minutes of Nemo, but Enzo was getting fussy and kind of nuts on the couch. He's starting to get much more physical with us. He doesn't really understand that hitting us in the face is not funny. We make him say "sorry", and try to explain to him that it's not nice, but it's over his head.

He had a nice long bath, and then I read him some books. He only wanted to hear Little Bear stories tonight. He got scared when I started to read him the goblin story, so he took the the book from me, walked across the room, put it on the shelf, walked back, and said "scary". So we didn't read that particular one again.

noof!

This morning, we sat for a family breakfast of french toast. Enzo and mommy got laughing saying "noof!" to Betty. Enzo has a bunch of funny little made up words that he says when he's feeling silly, and noof is at the top of the list.

Alex came and watched Enzo for a couple hours before I took him to school. We decided to start not giving him a nap before class, and it went pretty well. We had a good day at school. The kids are all getting a bit touchy with their personal space as they are all getting older. Some pushing and shoving, and some hair pulling too. Enzo played with the usual things - the duck, the man with no arms, and the wooden fruits and veggies. He did pretty well his snack, and had a lot of fun outside digging in the wood chips. He was the only one who participated in closing circle.

Nanny Note: We listened to music, played with Playdough, read books and played outside. We looked at the whale books and talked about some interesting facts. After school Enzo ate some lunch, we read more books, then went to the park.

We both got home before Enzo but we heard him laughing and carrying on about snakes before he was even out of Alex's car. He came in gnawing on a carrot and was in a good mood. Daddy took him to pick up some Chinese takeout and Enzo had a good dinner. We went through the alphabet and sang nonsense songs throughout dinner. Enzo has started singing, although he is not very good.

After dinner we had some Nemo, a pop, then our usual bath with the sharks. He sat rapt with attention at another relatively long Little Bear book, and asked to see the picture of the little goblin jumping out of his shoes over and over again. He really loves those Maurice Sendak illustrations.

painting

Enzo woke up, and stayed in his crib talking to himself and his stuffed animals, and signing the mop song. We laid in bed in the other room listening on the monitor. Zoe made him another soft boiled egg, and we had a family breakfast. Enzo painted with watercolors while we waited for Alex to come.

Nanny Note: We watched Courdoroy, played with toys, listened to music and went for a walk to visit Grandma Jean and the kittens. Enzo had a small lunch, he painted and watched Here Comes The Cat, then we read stories before nap. We went to the library.

We had a brief family dinner, and then we went to the "zoo" (aka, pet store) to see fish and birds and turtles. Enzo like the Nemo clownfish display and tank. He also liked the poor little cats up for adoption. Back home, we watched a bit of Nemo.

After bath, Zoe read Enzo his new Little Bear book, which turned out to be about 50 pages long. Enzo loved it and sat for the entire thing. We played with all Enzo's little animals, and he proudly said "hedgehog!", which is yet another new animal name he knows.

January 08, 2008

gorilla

Enzo woke up in a chipper mood, and we had a nice family breakfast of toast fingers and soft boiled eggs. Enzo loves to dip. He picked up the phone and when we asked him who he was talking to, he answered,"Dee", so we called her. He left her a message but got stage fright and did not say much.

Nanny Note: We watched Blue Planet and played with toys. Enzo didn't get a very long nap and he seemed reluctant to go to class at first. He was fine once Circle Time started. Adrienne had some new songs to catch their attention. Enzo had a good time playing in the sand today and he got very dirty. After lunch we went to play at Kidspace for awhile.

After work when mommy got home, Enzo was running around like crazy after Alex. She reported that he had a good day and was happy all day despite a super short nap. Mommy got a hug, kiss, and nose rub right away. Mommy made Enzo his dinner of his favorite loonles, then he got a pop because he was so good with dinner. After dinner we watched some Knuffle Bunny and CNN to watch the excitement in NH.

He was happy to see daddy, who got home late after touring several potential schools for Enzo next year. We had a quick little ichat with A-ma, and Enzo showed off his pigeon and turtle and actually said "love you" at the end of the conversation. We had a fun bath because we found an old gorilla toy that we bought for him to keep him occupied when we went to Hawaii. He had fun with the gorilla versus the sharks in the bath.

He had some books and milk afterwards, but was so tired he started to nod off during one of the books; unfortunately this book had a gorilla in it, so he had to run to the bathtub to retrieve his gorilla and got a short second wind. Soon afterwards, it was teeth brushing time then off to bed.

January 07, 2008

eno toys

Enzo and daddy snuggled with our morning milk before coming downstairs. Enzo asked for a noodle breakfast and laughed. Instead, mommy made him pancakes with chips. After taking a poop on the potty, Enzo demanded to go outside before we'd put his diaper and pants on. So we let him outside. It was pretty chilly, so he came back in quickly and let us dress him.

Nanny Note: We drew animals and watched Planet Earth and listened to music. We read a bunhc of stories before nap. He goofed off in bed for a while then he fell asleep. After nap we went to Kidspace.

Wes came over to play tonight. She'd been bugging Eric about playing with "eno toys" all day. She stayed for dinner too, and liked her noodles. Enzo on the other hand had a little breakdown about getting a pop before he'd eaten much. After a little scene, he finally ate some more and we gave him a pop. Once done with his pop, he asked for dinner back and continued eating.

After Wes left, we watched some football and Enzo threw his ball around the house. He was kind of nuts tonight, crawling all over the furniture and the dogs and us. He had another snack and watched some Nemo before a late bath. Mommy read some stories, and he went right to bed a little after 8:PM.

January 06, 2008

football

Enzo slept in this morning. He and I hung out downstairs for a bit, sharing a bowl of cereal, and then headed out for a Jamba Juice. We stopped to pick up a coffee for Zoe on the way back. Enzo was so happy to see mommy when we got back to the house, he gave her five hugs and three kisses.

It was another rainy day today, so we didn't have anything planned. Enzo played out back for a bit, and we went on a walk with the dogs. Enzo watched some "football", and ate a number of snacks. We stopped by to play with Wes for a few minutes too.

For some reason, he woke up kind of sour after his nap, and never completely pulled it together for the rest of the day. He just seemed tired and a bit touchy at times. We went to Whole Foods for some groceries, and he was briefly amused by the drive down into the parking structure over the "bumps".

We spent the rest of the evening at home. He threw his little football around the living room. He can throw the ball pretty well actually, but he hasn't quite grasped the concept of catching. I walked him to say hi to Wes again right before dinner. It was raining hard on the walk back, and we both got soaked. After dinner, he sat with mommy and watch some Nemo for the 500th time.

He got an early bath, and got a good laugh out of dumping a small bucket of water on daddy's head over and over. He read books with mommy (including Barnyard Dance six times), took a poop on the potty, and then was ready for an early bedtime at about 7:30PM.

January 05, 2008

good job dad

Enzo was up early this morning. When we came downstairs, I asked him what he wanted for breakfast. He said noodles ("loonles"), so I made him some noodles. He thought that was funny.

Enzo was very excited to see mommy when she came home from call. He had another snack of cracker and melon. I reached to grab his bowl of crackers, knocking them on the floor. Zoe said "good job dad", and then Enzo said "job dad!" many times after that.

I took him across town for a Jamba Juice. Within one minute of getting his juice, he poked a hole in his cup with his finger, and made a big mess. I threw out his juice, and had along talk with him about it. Back at the house, mommy asked him where his juice was, and he said "trash". Then she asked what happened, he said "cup. hole. mess." We watched some Planet Earth, and then played in the back with the dogs. Enzo took a long nap, and we tried to get some rest.

He woke up in a great mood, and was really fun all afternoon. We drove the J-town to do some grocery shopping. He was laughing and screeching in the store like a crazy person. Zoe was counting with him, and every time he got to ten, he would scream "ten!" He got so excited about reaching ten, that he starting skipping numbers to get to ten even sooner. We stopped by another grocery store in Pasadena, and he was screeching even more loudly there. Might have been because I was carrying him around upside down though.

Back home, we just hung out, watched some Knuffle Bunny and chased the dogs and ate some dinner and a pop. He took a bath with his sharks, read books with mommy, and went to bed right at 8:PM.

January 04, 2008

winter storm

Enzo slept in again until almost 7:AM. He was very quiet and snuggly this morning with mommy. He got a soft boiled egg and cereal for breakfast. We drew on the chalk board until Alex came.

Nanny Note: We read some books, had a little snack then went to Amy's Playground. We played at Amy's for an hour until it got too crowded then we came home to watch Nemo, have lunch and take a nap. After nap, we watched Blue Planet, we listened to music, drew with chalk and read more books.

The big storm finally arrived this afternoon, and it was raining pretty hard when I got home with the dogs around 5:PM. We read a fish book and ate a snack before heading out in the rain for a walk. Wearing his boots and rain coat, we walked up to say hi to Wes.

They invited Enzo for dinner, so we ended up staying for about an hour. We played in Wes' room with the shark and the kitchen stuff. Wes even poured Enzo a cup of tea, and served him a dinner roll, banana and mushroom at her table. As we were leaving, Wes requested a hug. He leaned into the hug so much, he almost fell down when Wes let go. Then Enzo requested a kiss, and so they did.

Back home, we had some milk and ate some crackers while watching Blue Planet. After, we took a very long bath with the sharks, and then read books until it was past Enzo's bedtime. Poor baby just wanted to stay up. He got upset when I brushed his teeth, and when I put him in the crib, he started rattling off everything he could think that might delay bedtime - "book. milk. shark. turtle. book. milk. shark."

January 03, 2008

hug

Enzo finally slept in until 630 this morning - this may be due to his second dinner last night right before bedtime. He woke up in a good mood and asked for french toast, sausage and peaches. He got all 3. We read books until mommy left for work.

Nanny Note: We played outside. Enzo was pretending to be a lion in a cage. We went for a hike down by the casting pond. We walked over to see the stream and Enzo had fun throwing rocks in the stream. We came home at 12:30 to have lunch and watch Blue Planet. Enzo likes to help stir the noodles. After lunch we played outside. We drew with chalk and listened to music and read books.

He was screeching around after Betty when we got home from work. He was in a great mood and ate a ton of his beefy noodles for dinner. We had a pop, read some books, watched a little Nemo, then had a nice bubbly bath.

During his bath he mentioned that the shark and the seal were "friends"; when we asked him what friends do, he answered, "hug". We asked him who his best friends were, and he answered, "home", then "Wes", then "Eric" then "Betty". After his bath Betty came into his room, and we reminded him that Betty was his friend, so he gave her a hug. He really is very very cute.

January 02, 2008

eric

Mommy was up and out of the house early, so Enzo and I went to go get a coffee and look at the crane. It was pretty cool today - spinning all around and lifting things. We sat on the wall for about 30 minutes, before heading home to meet Alex. Zoe's OR was canceled, so we went on a weekday date to the movies and lunch.

Nanny Note: We played outside, listened to music, watched Blue Planet and read books. For some reason Enzo didn't want to take a nap. He cried for a few minutes. I read him one more book then put him back to bed, and he fell asleep.

When we got home, Enzo was happy to see us and screeched "daddy! mommy!", and did his funny giggle. We headed out for a long walk to feed the ducks, meeting Wes and Eric along the way. Enzo can say "eric" for the first time today, which was very cute. Enzo of course was thrilled to see the "many coots", and fed the big mean white ducks some bread until one nipped him on the finger.

Back home, we just hung around the house, ate some dinner and watched some Nemo. Enzo took a nice long bath and then read books with mommy. We were just about to put him to bed when he asked to go back downstairs and finish his dinner, which was a first. We actually sat at the table again, and ate another big plate of noodles. Then asked for some crackers, and then asked for some grapes. Wow. Growth spurt maybe.

After some time on the couch looking through one of my old fish books for the 50th time today, we brought him back up and put him to sleep.

January 01, 2008

stealth bummer

Enzo up again bright and early, and very hungry. Before 6:30AM, he ate a waffle, bowl of watermelon, a link sausage, some French toast, and half a yogurt. And 12 ounces of milk.

We ran all the way to the La Loma bridge at 8:AM to see the Stealth but it never came. Enzo thought we were there to see the blimp, so he was happy.

Enzo was happy to see mommy when she dragged herself home this morning and was in a fine mood. Wes and her parents and Nacho came over for a New Years mimosa and some food; Enzo and Wes ran around outside and in the house and turned the house upside down.

We headed out to the La Loma bridge in the hopes of watching the Stealth bomber fly by for the Rose Bowl game; alas, the new president of the Rose Bowl is a Navy guy, apparently, so no Stealth this year. Mommy and daddy sent an irate email. We got to see the blimp again and saw 4 jet fighter planes which was still pretty cool. Enzo was stoked to see the planes and also made friends with someone's giant Great Dane.

Milestones: Enzo has been thinking about numbers for a while now. We've heard him count up to 10 before, but we haven't been able to reproduce it with any consistency. But today he counted straight to ten over and over.

We all took a much needed 2 hour nap. We watched some Sound of Music - he likes the yodeling number about the lonely goat herder. Mommy was humming that song in her head for her entire New Year's eve call. We had a nice ichat with gramma Dee and grampy Buzz, and Enzo performed his latest trick for them - counted out loud from one to ten. They were impressed.

Mommy made dinner for Enzo and he ate a ton - we are thinking that he is waking up so early every day because he is hungry, so we made a concerted effort to really get him a good dinner tonight to see if he sleeps in tomorrow.

After dinner, Enzo's neighbor and buddy, Jack, and his dad came over to watch the Sugar Bowl with us, but after the embarrassing first half they left. Hawaii got their butts kicked, big time.

We had a nice bath and let him have a pop afterwards because he did so well with dinner; then it was the usual books and bed right on time. He was so sweet and funny all day today.
