my ralph

Enzo was full of funny things to say today, and was speaking in almost full sentences like a normal person all day. A normal possibly slightly drunk person, but still. We started out this morning eating our breakfast in the garage, at Enzo's suggestion. ("Eat our lunch in the garage. Come on!") While daddy was cutting some fruit at the counter, Enzo ran up to him and hugged his leg and said, "This is my Ralph. Enzo's Ralph. Love Ralph"

After breakfast we headed out to the park. It really was a beautiful day today, and Enzo had fun drinking his Jamba Juice and asking us to chase him around. When we got home we watched some bug movie and Enzo played with the dogs. He ate a massive lunch then took a 2 1/2 hour nap.

After he woke up, we took a ride across town to look for birthday presents for some parties we have coming up. We tried to talk him into trying out the toddler bed, and he expressed his preference for the cribs. We guess he's not ready to get out of the crib yet.

We had dinner in Old Pas after shopping and he enjoyed his noodles but enjoyed his frozen yogurt afterwards even more. While we were leaving our tip at dinner he asked for some money. We gave him quarter and he said, "no want real money. want a dollar"

We stopped at the park on the way home and ran into Jack and his dad. Enzo got annoyed when Jack started playing with one of the two plastic spoons he was carrying around from our stop at Pinkberry. When we got home we took a walk with the dogs and played with all his men in his homemade rocket ship.

We took a fun, deep bath and then read some books. While we were reading he passed quite a large fart and when we asked him if he needed to use the potty he answered, "no. smell gas"

want sushi

We had family snuggle as per usual. We made Enzo breakfast, and then mommy was off to work. We stood in the driveway to wave goodbye, and as Zoe drove off up the street, he said "mommy come back right now."

Nanny Note: We played at the park all morning. Enzo ate a small lunch, we read books and he fell asleep. After nap we watched some of Bug's Life, we played outside, played with trains and drew with chalk.

Enzo asked to get some sushi tonight, but when we sat down for dinner, I guess he decided he really didn't want sushi anymore. So Zoe and I ate, and then we went off to pick up the dogs. After we picked them up, Enzo asked for a burrito. I ran in to get him one. When he got it, he gave it a big hug.

By the time we got home, it was close to bed time. He watched a bit of bug movie, and then to bed.

May 29, 2008

last day of school

We went for breakfast at Heirloom this morning before Zoe left for an appt across town. We gave Alex the morning off because she babysat tonight, so I hung with him.

At home, we played with toys, and then did some painting. I set him up with five bowls of paint and some brushes, and then went into the kitchen to check my email. After about 10 minutes, I heard him say "painting belly!". Sure enough, he holding his shirt up with one hand and swirling blue paint all over his chest and belly with a brush in the other. We laughed about that, then he said "painting cheeks" and made a big blue streak on his face. OK, enough with the paints today.

He fell asleep on the way up to school, so I let him sleep for a while. We showed up late for the last day at Waldorf, and Enzo just didn't want to be there. He sat in my lap with his lap buried inmy chest for about 30 minutes, and asked to go home. Enzo gave Miss Adrienne a present and a hug, and we said our goodbyes. It made me sad to think about not going back there again. Despite the occasional struggles, it was great for Enzo.

Back home, we played with toys and made a cardboard spaceship for Buzz. Enzo also offered to help with the laundry. Before I knew it, Alex arrived to take over at about 3:PM, and whisked him out the door.

Zoe and I went out to dinner, and he was asleep before we got home.

May 28, 2008

petey

Enzo woke up at the crack, and then crawled into bed with us. We were hoping he'd fall back asleep, but he didn't. So we all woke up and came downstairs. He was still coughing this morning, and a little bit touchy. He got upset when Zoe left for work, but then I brought him outside to spray the hose with Betty, which always cheers him up.

Alex had Petey with her again. Enzo was so happy. We all sat in the front yard, and let Petey crawl ed all around including on Enzo's leg.

Nanny Note: We played w/ Petey! We read books, played with toys and watched Toy Story for a bit. Enzo fell asleep on the couch and woke up grumpy. He was really out of it and he felt really warm so I gave him 1tsp Tylenol at 11:30. I took him to the park for a while but he was kind of out of it.

After work, Enzo sat in yard again with Petey and Zoe. Enzo to her, "i love Petey. i love caterpillar. i love Allie." Then he sat in Zoe's car and drove for a while. We took turns sitting with him. It seems he's feeling better because he ate a nice big chicken dinner.

We were so happy about his dinner that we drove him down to Frosty Freeze for an ice cream. He instantly wanted Zoe's cone which was too big and dipped in chocolate and melting all over the place. Disaster. But he had fun.

May 27, 2008

real water

Enzo woke up at 4:30AM. Still sick. We brought him into bed with us and he slept for a few more hours. He didn't eat much for breakfast, and got upset right before Alex came about wanting "something else". I couldn't figure out what the something else was, and he wouldn't say.

Alex brought Petey the giant millipede from Kidspace over to the house first thing this morning. That snapped Enzo out of his funk for a while. Later when we asked him about the millipede, he said "love petey".

After work, we hustled to get some dinner in front of Enzo. He really just wanted to lay on the floor and watch bug movie. Zoe manged to get dinner in him. He started coughing, so Zoe gave him some of her fizzy water. He drank some, and then said "no. want real water", so I got him a glass of real water.

He was tired after dinner, and just wanted to veg out and rink some strawberry milk. After his short bath, mommy read him a few books, and we put him to sleep early.

May 26, 2008

onigiri

Enzo woke up early this morning and mommy read to him in bed for an hour before he asked to go downstairs. They went downstairs to lounge around on the couch and watch some ant movie while daddy got to sleep in for another hour and a half.

Enzo had some breakfast and painted quietly at his table, then asked for Jamba Juice and "throw ball Betty". We packed up the dogs and headed out to the dog park. After the messy dog park, we did some grocery shopping and brought Enzo home for some lunch. He ate an entire salmon onigiri. He is still intermittently feverish and has a terrible sounding cough but overall seems a little better - he started eating again today.

Enzo and mommy took a 2 hour nap right after lunch, but only after she read "Birthday Soup" from LIttle Bear about a dozen times. He woke up with crazy bedhead.

After they got up from their nap, we all played in the house while mommy did some cleaning up. Daddy and Enzo went to the store to pick up some last minute things for dinner. The Pfleegers came over for dinner and we ate outside even though it was a little chilly. At least it wasn't raining. He and Wes were really cute tonight, talking to each other and playing nice.

After dinner, we hung out, watched a bit more ant movie then he all of a sudden got feverish and crashed quickly. After some tylenol and a super quickie bath, there was some milk and books, then to bed. We think he has croup, but hopefully it will behind us soon.

May 25, 2008

so lucky kid

Enzo woke up at 4:30AM this morning and daddy got up to sit with him and give his milk; they both ended up sleeping for a bit on the beanbag chair before he got up for good. He was in a very talkative mood this morning, He asked for the potty straight away, and in one of his books there was a picture of some grapes and a cupcake. He did so well on the potty that when he asked for "grapes and cake" for breakfast, mommy went down the hill to the store to get him what he wanted.

Mommy had to go to the hospital to round on her patient, so daddy took Enzo and the dogs to the dog park. Enzo still had a fever all day and overnight developed an ugly hacking cough, so we spent the rest of the morning just chilling at home. He watched some tv and played with this toys. We had some lunch then took an epic 2 1/2 hour family nap.

He woke up in a good mood then we headed down the street to Jack's 3rd birthday party. It was a great party; there was a big bouncer in the front yard and a fire truck came by and let all the kids climb in the cab and on the back. Enzo saw some friends at the party and had fun for a while but soon was asking to "go back home".

He started feeling warm again so we gave him some kids tylenol in a little shot glass. He thought it was some candy drink treat. After gulping it down he declared himself a "so lucky kid".

We met the Pfleegers out for burgers and fires but Enzo wasn't too interested in eating. After, we stopped by Borders to grab some new paperbacks. Enzo finally got to burn off some of the little energy he had by running up and down the maze of book aisles.

Back home, we watched another minute of bug movie, and then to bed.

May 24, 2008

i'm tired

Super duper lazy day today. Mommy and daddy both tired from working late into the night, and Enzo with a slight fever also. And raining to top it off.

Mommy and Enzo spent a lot of time curled up the couch watching Toy Story today, and then they both took a big two hour nap. We had a couple of short outings, and a quick walk down the block, but Enzo wasn't really up for much.

When I picked him up to head out for dinner, he started crying and said "i'm tired". We met Gabeluke for mexican, but Enzo didn't eat a bite. Back home, he had part of a tangerine popsicle, and then was ready for bath.

Bracing ourselves for his feverish wakeup later tonight.

May 23, 2008

shoeless

Enzo was up late, and then we all snuggled too long in bed. Then a mad scramble to get mommy out the door for work. It was raining again this morning, but we all went up to the bakery to grab a coffee and pastry, and to give mommy a kiss goodbye.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace in the morning then came home for lunch. We played with toys and playdough before nap then we read books. Enzo had a great nap. After nap we ran an errand then came home two play and read books.

After work, I scooped Enzo up and we ran across town in the rain to get the dogs from daycare. We stopped in for a burrito, and it was then I realized I'd forgotten to bring shoes for Enzo. It's been so long since he's worn long pants and socks that I didn't even notice. We looked in some discount shoe store next door, but they only had these fake crocs that Enzo wouldn't be caught dead wearing.

I got corn in Enzo's burrito, not realizing is was jalepeno corn salad. He took a bite, and then started making this sound like he was trying to clear his throat. So he ate my burrito instead, and a lot of it. On our way out, we stopped to "meet a policeman!"

By the time we got the dogs and made it home, it was time for bath. A few books and then to bed. Turning the heat on tonight.

May 22, 2008

rocket baby

Mommy made daddy and Enzo a big stack of raisin bread french toast this morning. When Zoe left for work, I sat with him to finish his breakfast. He looked up and asked, "where's alex?"

After a couple hours with Alex, I took him up to school. We got there a bit late. Enzo had a good day there today, although he was running all around during snack again. He played with this little stuffed baby doll that he'd clipped a big clothes pin on. He was flying it around over his head, saying "rocket baby. rocket baby." He got upset when I took rocket baby away so he could sit for snack. After class, as we were walking out, he asked for a juice box. I told him if he said please five times, he could have it. So he said "please five times", and got the juice.

A big thunderstorm passed through tonight after work. Enzo wanted to look out the window and wait for the "thunder boom". He also spotted a little toy man out in the yard, so he ran out barefoot into the rain to rescue him.

Mommy made a big pot of paella which was amazing, and Enzo loved it too. There was so much that I ran some up to our neighbors. On the way back, lightening struck right behind the house, and I nearly hit the deck.

We played around the living room for a bit, and then upstairs for a bubbly bath, and then bed.

May 21, 2008

okonomiyaki

Enzo was up from 2-3:AM again last night. I tried to let him cry it out, but after about 15 minutes of sobbing, "where's daddy?", I caved and went in to give him milk and read a story. He was pretty easy to back to bed after.

He slept in and woke up in great mood. We rolled around with the dogs, and chatted until nearly 8:AM. Zoe was on call last night, so I made Enzo a low-brow breakfast of fried bologna.

Nanny Note: We tried to go to the Zoo. Once we were at the seals a big wind came and blew something into Enzo's eyes. His eyes watered and his nose started running so he wanted to go home.

Zoe got home early and let Alex go. They played and watched something too. Enzo called me on my drive home around 4:PM to tell me he missed me and loved me, and told me to come home soon.

Zoe made this amazing shrimp okonomiyaki, and Enzo loved it. Mommy was very happy about that. After we went out to look for a couple birthday presents for Enzo's friends. We accidentally bought Enzo a couple thing too, including a "fireman hat".

Back home, Zoe and Enzo played while daddy did a little work. After bath, as we were reading, Enzo made a point to mention that "mommy came home work. see enzo." Right when we were about to put him to sleep, he sat up and without saying a word, walked toward the bathroom. I scooped him and put him on the potty. We praised him profusely. He was very proud.

May 20, 2008

cheek bone

Enzo slept through the night again, despite 6 or 7 firetruck passing right in front of house with sirens blaring at midnight. He was fun this morning rolling around in bed. Every morning now, he gives Harriet a big hug, and says, "love you harriet". So sweet. We had eggos for breakfast, but Enzo hasn't eaten much the last couple days, and wasn't too interested.

After a couple hours with Alex, I took him up to school. He was kind of nut during opening circle. When everyone else is sitting and singing little songs, Enzo was up walking around and talking. He does this thing where he walks along, and then plops down on his butt, declaring "slip!". So he did that about ten times. Each time walking up to Miss Adrienne, asking loudly, "see dat?"

He was having a great day, until right before snack, when he stumbled over a little rug by the door, and fell into the metal door frame. The edge hit him square on the cheek bone. He cried and I watched the splotch on his check turn white, then red, then purple. He shook it off, and continued on with class. During snack, while all the other kids were sitting eating quietly, and Enzo was running all over, Miss Adrienne asked if he ever sits for meals at home. If we strap him to a chair, yes he does.

He fell asleep right as we were pulling into the driveway, so I put him in his crib to nap.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace. Walter showed Enzo all kinds of "amazing things" on the computer. Our friend Anand played Dinosaur Bingo and Mark played with him too.

After work, Enzo watch something to calm down while I made him dinner. He was a little cranky but was ok after dinner. On our way to the grocery to get some milk, we stopped to see the Pfleegers backyard. Quite a project. At the store, Enzo convinced me to buy some ice cream sandwiches even though I knew giving him one would be a disaster. It was but he really liked it.

He definitely needed a bath after that. Then we read books, and went to sleep.

May 19, 2008

air enzo

Zoe was up and off to the OR before Enzo woke up this morning. He let me sleep in a little and then woke up in a great mood. We snuggled with the dogs until Enzo asked to go downstairs, "i'm hungry"

I made him a nice breakfast of fruit, toast and sausage, but he was more interested in playing with his Mr Potato Head. Mid-way through breakfast Enzo notice my coffee mug, and we had a conversation about it. Went something like this:

e: [pointing] daddy's coffee
r: yes, that's daddy's coffee
e: mommy likes that drink
r: yes, mommy like coffee
e: mommy loves coffee every daaaayyyy. [big circular hand motion]
r: yes she does like coffee
[long pause]
e: love mommy
r: enzo loves mommy?
e: yesch

Milestones: Enzo finally figured how to jump straight up in the air today, getting both feet off the ground.

Nanny Note: We played at the park and played in the pool. We had a small lunch and read some books before nap. I put him down at 12:30 but he played quietly, then started to cry. He finally fell asleep at 1:20. After nap, we played with toys and read more books.

After work, we sat for a nice family dinner, then played in the front yard. Enzo showed off his new jumping skills. Then we went for a long family walk with the pups. Enzo sat in the stroller happily slurping on a big tangerine popsicle the entire time. Mommy let him "watch something calm down", and then bath and bed.

May 18, 2008

i come in peace

Enzo woke up in the middle of the night yet again, and we couldn't get him back to bed. So he came into our bed at about 5:AM and fell asleep right away, for another two hours of much needed rest on all our parts.

We spent the early morning packing up the car and getting some breakfast at Whole Foods. Then off to the beach.

It was hot down there today (but not as hot as Pasadena) and the parking lot was crowded, but we finally got a spot. I pulled Enzo in the wagon down the the waters edge, where we set up camp. Within 10 minutes a family of 10 parked themselves 5 feet in front of us. We pulled up our stakes and moved 15 feet to the right where there was a big empty spot.

Enzo and I dug the deepest hole ever. About as deep as Enzo is tall, so I guess not that deep. We spent of most of the time jumping into the whole, and running back to get snacks and drinks from mommy. Enzo was a little tired from his lack of sleep last night, so he wasn't running around insane like he usually does. Right before we left, we got in some good wave jumping, and letting the retreating waves sink our feet into the sand.

Enzo fell asleep on the way home, and woke up the minute we stopped in the driveway. He we'd put him down for a proper nap, he would have slept for an hour, so he was a bit sour about getting less than 45 minutes of sleep. After a few minutes of "watch something, calm down", he sprayed the hose in the backyard for the dogs. Then we set up the octopus in the front yard. He got the biggest kick when I made the Harriet and Betty balance on top.

At dinner, I taught Enzo how to say, "my name is enzo koji. i come in peace", a line of Buzz Lightyear's. We went for a long hot walk to tire out the dogs. Enzo was really tired and ready for bed when we got home.

May 17, 2008

it's hot

We did our usual morning thing and rolled around in bed after Enzo got up. We headed out for breakfast and Enzo met a sweet dog named Charlotte. As we were leaving the breakfast place, he stopped at the refrigerated case and unexpectedly asked us to buy him some grapefruit yogurt. So we did, and he ate it and really enjoyed it.

After breakfast we went to the South Pasadena Fun Fair, and hung out with Jake and his dad, but it wasn't so fun because it was really really hot out, and Enzo was too little to go on any of the rides.

When we got home we played in the back with the hose. He really loves spraying the dogs, but it wasn't so cute when he started spraying mommy and daddy. We headed back inside for respite when it got really unbearable, and Enzo got to watch some Toy Story. We had some lunch, went on a walk, then Enzo took a 2 hour nap. We had to go in and wake him up because it was after 4 in the afternoon and there was no sign of him even rustling around in there.

He woke up in a happy mood, and as he was having an apple for his snack, we had a nice little ichat with A-ma. We hadn't ichatted with her in awhile and she was impressed with how much he was talking. We went out for a Jamba Juice and did our grocery shopping; we had dinner at Whole Foods and Enzo loved his teri chicken bowl and even ate his bok choy if he didn't know it was in his bite. I grabbed a frozen fruit pop for him as we were heading to checkout. When he saw it, he said, "want that right now please. go pay for it!". When someone asked him his name in the elevator, he answered "Enzo Koji DeFelice".

We got home and he had some more dinner; we went on another quick walk then had a fun bath, some books, then off to a later than usual bedtime. We are going to the beach tomorrow to escape this heat.

May 16, 2008

drive thru

Enzo and ran out to pick up drive thru breakfast. He really loved his pancakes and sausage. He asked mommy to stay home from work today again.

Nanny Note: We went to the Museum of Natural History. After nap, we played outside with the hose and the pool. Enzo wasn't in the best mood.

After work, we took Enzo across town to pick up the dogs, and grab some dinner. Zoe helped him eat a monster burrito dinner. We drove thru McDonalds for an ice cream, and then went for a walk down the street. Enzo loves to play in the yard of this house on the corner. It took some effort to get walking back up the street.

He suddenly was very tired, so we gave him a quick bath and shuttled him off to bed.

May 15, 2008

naked potato man

Enzo woke up early, but in fine mood today. We played in bed for a while, then downstairs to get ready to play with the dogs. The Rose Bowl was fun today. Enzo and Buzz Lightbeer did some flying around. Back home, Zoe had yummy breakfast waiting. During breakfast Enzo played with Mr Potato Head. He pulled off his arms, legs, eyes, feet, etc., until he had a plain potato. "naked potato man!" When Zoe told Enzo she off to work, he shouted, "no to work! stay!". I carried him out to say goodbye, and as her car left the driveway, he said softly to himself, "love you mommy". So sweet.

On the way up to school, Enzo fell asleep in the car. I carried him up to class, and he stayed asleep on my shoulder for about 15 minutes. I was worried, but he woke up easily and wandered off into class. He had fun, and spent a lot of time playing with Chloe again. A couple times, he got a little rough and basically tackled her. All in good fun, and she can take it. We skipped snack to play outside, flying and drinking from the fountain.

Milestones: Our 500th post today!

Nanny Note: We played at the park, then played at Kidspace in the new planetarium.

Zoe had a dinner tonight, so after work I took Enzo to the market. We sat with Eliza's family and ate chicken quesadilla. He ate a lot and had fun running around and talking to Joe about how hungry he was. On our way out, we bought some cherries and shave ice.

Enzo sat at his table drawing a "yak" and "cantaloupe". After bath we read frog & toad, and then to bed.

May 14, 2008

mommy so pretty

Enzo slept in, and then spent a long time rolling around in our bed before breakfast. He seems to be over his little cold.

Nanny Note: We went to Gymboree for class, came home to have a small lunch then we played outside with toys. We watched Pete's a Pizza and read some books.

Zoe made a beautiful chicken dinner for us and we microwaved some pasta for Enzo. After one bite of that, he wanted to share mommy's chicken. Kid knows good food. He spent the rest of the night playing with new Buzz Lightbeer, before during and after our walk with the dogs. Zoe was giving Enzo chocolate covered raisins, but not before he said, "mommy so pretty". We played in the garage. Enzo climbed into an empty box, and said "enzo sleeps in a box". I asked him not to repeat that in public. After a quick bath, we read books and then to bed.

May 13, 2008

cacophony

Enzo slept 12 hours straight last night, which was nice. He had a little runny nose, but otherwise seemed OK. We all snuggled in bed for a while, and then went downstairs for breakfast. Enzo didn't eat. He was unhappy to see mommy head off to work, and asked her to please stay. He got upset when Alex took him out to play too. He wanted to stay with daddy.

I was late getting Enzo to school today, but he ended up having a great day. Although he was a little run down, he rallied the minute we got to school. He spent a lot of time playing with Chloe today. They really like each other, and everyone thought it was really cute. A couple time he give her a big bear hugs, and I had to pry him off her. After playing outside, he seemed very tired so we left a little early. I managed to keep him awake all the way home, and put him straight into the crib.

Nanny Note: We played at the park and kidspace before school. Enzo had a small lunch. I gave him his bean burrito but he just tore it to shreds.

When I got home from work, Enzo was asleep on the couch. Really unusual. We tiptoed around for about 20 minutes, but then woke him up for dinner. He was upset about that, but settled into some soba noodles. After dinner, we went for a long family walk. On our walk, we passed by a house with a pack of crazy loud barking dogs. Zoe taught Enzo how to say cacophony, "so many cophony!" We played in the garage for a while, then bath and bed.

May 12, 2008

i am so hungry

Enzo woke up crying hard at 2:30AM, and never went back to sleep. We gave him some milk, and put him back to bed, but he wouldn't stop crying. So we brought him into our bed. Something we've only done once or twice before. Instead of falling back asleep, he tossed and turned for three hours. At around 5:AM, he was very still for about 15 minutes, and we thought he finally was asleep. I drifted off to sleep for a minute, but was awoken by his hot breath on my face. When I opened my eyes, we were nose to nose. He whispered softly, "i am so hungry". So I brought him downstairs, made him breakfast, and sat with him while he played in the living room.

(mommy note: This is EXACTLY how Ralph is, always claiming he is STARVING even if he just ate an hour ago. His parents say that he used to make milkshakes with raw eggs in them after dinner because he would be STARVING. This is genetics at work, people.)

Since we were all up so early, I had time to take Enzo and the dogs to the Rose Bowl to "throw ball betty". Enzo had a blast running all around. I clipped the leash to his sweatshirt and pulled him around. He was laughing so hard. Then I clipped the leash to my belt loop, and let him pull me.

Nanny Note: We went to the zoo but when Enzo woke up he said he didn't want to go so I took him to Griffith Park and we rode the train. We came home for lunch and a movie. We read some books and I put him down for another nap. Enzo was in a very good mood today considering. He really liked the train ride. Enzo didn't fall asleep again, he cried for a while ("where did mommy go? where did daddy go? where did allie go? where did everybody go?") so I brought him downstairs.

After work, Enzo was really tired, but actually was doing pretty well. He seems to have runny nose, so maybe that explains last night. We played in the garage, and then sat in the car (so Enzo could "drive"), while mommy put dinner together. After dinner, he really started to fade. We had to abort an attempt at a family walk, and then just let him watch a few minutes of new toy movie. He got an early bath, and was in bed by 7:30.

May 11, 2008

infinity and beyond

Enzo woke up again chipper and while he was snuggying in bed with mommy, daddy brought them both breakfast in bed for mother's day. The dogs ate more of his breakfast than he did, but it was a very sweet way to start our day. Enzo called all his grandmothers to wish them happy mother's day. We headed out to the farmer's market to buy some fruit and have breakfast.

Enzo loved his cheesy avocado quesadilla and ran around and had fun. We did some grocery shopping, then headed home. He sat on the potty and held a small tube up to his eye and said, "I am the captain sailing my ship". (We have no idea where he gets this stuff) Mommy went to get her mother's day massage while daddy stayed home and played with trains and cars with Enzo. He took a long nap.

When mommy got home, he got up from his nap and we hung out, made dinner, went for a walk then ate dinner. He spent most of his time with one of his diver men pretending it was Buzz Lightyear (he calls him Buzz Light Beer) and flying him around, proclaiming, "to infinity and beyond!" Daddy taped some wings on the diver man.

We went out for some ice cream after dinner and took another long walk with the dogs. During his bath, to his eternal delight, Harriet jumped in the tub with him.

May 10, 2008

cheese and crackers

Enzo woke up in a great mood today and we had a great day. Maybe its because he slept almost 12 1/2 hours. We went to the bakery for breakfast and met the Pfleegers there. After the bakery we went to the park to run off some of the sugar from breakfast while mommy went to the hospital to see some patients. He spent most of the time shouting "one two three go!" to us all. So we were all running around.

Mommy came by the house to pick us up and we went off to Monterey Park for Dim Sum to meet Karen and JJ. He ate a ton as per usual; he was fascinated by the giant fish in the tank there. When we got home he took a monster 2 hour nap then again woke up hungry and happy. We had a nice snack and frolicked with the Pfleegers in the front yard for awhile. After they left we went to the park and Enzo practiced his jumping and climbing.

We had a nice dinner, then went for a really long walk all over the neighborhood with the dogs. Enzo looked at a picture of Grandma Susie, Enzo and mommy that Grandma Susie sent and when we asked him who she was, he answered "Gramma Susie!"

We took a nice long bath. In the middle of his bath he looked up at mommy and said, "I'm hungry!" When she asked what he wanted he answered "cheese and crackers!" He ate a second dinner of fruit, cheese, crackers and sausage.

We think he is going through some sort of crazy growth spurt, what with all the crazy eating and erratic sleeping. We just hope it is not his head that is growing any more.

May 09, 2008

tamago

Enzo was snuggling in bed this morning with mommy while I was out putting the trash cans on the curb. When he realized I wasn't there, he sat up and said "go see ralph right now" and hopped of the bed. Mommy made french toast breakfast for Enzer. Although he was talking about how hungry he was when he woke up, he mainly just slurped his syrup. When mommy had to leave for work, he said "no mommy stay!" When mommy left, we went for a walk. And as per usual, he had to wear his backpack.

Nanny Note: We played at Jacks house for a while. We played with toys here and had lunch. We read some stories before nap time and he fell asleep with any crying. After nap we went to the library.

Enzo was happy to see mommy when she got home. We quickly scooped him up and went out to our favorite neighborhood sushi place for dinner. Its a good thing, too, because he started crying,"I'm so hungry" in the car. Enzo was so happy to eat his tamago sushi and his ten zaru soba. We were well on our way home when mommy remembered that we still had not picked up the dogs, so we sprinted out there to get them. When we got home, Enzo was still hungry, unbelievably, when he got home, clamoring for another snack. We gave him some mango and some sausage. He seemed ok after that.

Bath, books, then milk and bed. Hopefully he is full now.

Enzo suddenly has two new cousins today too! Wow.

met a fireman

Enzo woke up again around midnight complaining about being hungry. After some milk, he went back to bed without much fuss.

Mommy made corn fritters for breakfast, and for school snack, this morning. We drove up to the bakery for a coffee. Zoe went off to work, and I brought Enzo home.

After a couple hours with Alex, we went to school. Enzo was a bit of a mess today. He's been really touchy the past week, and today was no exception. We did make it through class, but it required a lot of management. Overall, he had fun though, and we ended on a good note. He and Chloe goofed together again today - wrestling on the floor, hugging, and close talking. Right before closing circle, Enzo jumped off a picnic bench, and did a belly flop into a big mud puddle.

When Zoe got home, she showed Enzo a tin of popcorn that a patient gave her. Enzo got so excited, and said "i love this present!". We went to the farmers market for dinner. Enzo had a meltdown about wanting to take mommy's car, and not daddy's. We let him work it out on his own, and it took a long time. After settling down, we walked up to the market. It was kind of lame tonight because of the wet ground from the recent rain. Enzo did get to meet a group of "firemans". He walked up and give one of them the fist bump.

Back home we just chilled with some trains and toy movie before bath and bed.

met a doctor

Enzo woke at up at 2:30AM, complaining about being hungry. He drank some milk, and a I read him books. After about an hour, I put him back to sleep.

When it came time to take Enzo to the doctor this morning, I realized that my keys were in Zoe's purse, and she was at work. I managed to borrow our neighbors car, and we raced to his appointment. Only 5 minutes late.

Enzo was so good at his appointment. When we first pulled into the parking lot, he realized where we were and said, "mommy here. eat dinner with mommy." He actually had fun. So cute sitting on the exam table, chatting with the doctor, sticking out his tongue, and taking his shot in the leg without even blinking. Enzo is 50% height and weight, and over 100% in head circumference. Zoe managed to sneak out to come over and say hi for a minute. He fell asleep on the way home in the car.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace, had a snack and got to hear some stories. We went to visit Gramma Jean for a while which was fun for Enzo. He had fun with the kitty cats. Enzo fell asleep in the car a the way to Gymboree so I just came back home.

After work, we ate dinner, and then went for a walk. It was cold, so mommy went back home to make hot chocolate. Enzo wanted to drink it out of his coffee travel mug. He immediately tipped it back and poured it all over his face and in his eyes. Good thing it wasn't hot.

Enzo's very excited about having two new cousins tomorrow. He can't wait to meet them.

met a policeman

Enzo woke up very early this morning, and in a sour mood that would last throughout the day. He was also very sad to see that mommy was not home. He spent most of the morning getting upset about one thing or another. He rallied for breakfast at Cindy's, where he got to shake hands with a policeman. Very big deal. "Met a policeman at Cindy's", he said for the rest of the day.

After a brief stint with Alex, I brought Enzo to school. He was flaming around when we got there, having the best time. It reminded me of the saying, the brightest flame burns the quickest. And sure enough, just a few minutes later, he pretty much tanked, and wanted to go home. I fended him off a few times, but finally gave in.

He took a short nap for Alex when we got home, but woke up crying again. And it went on for a long time. he finally settled down, and had a good dinner. We took him on a walk right before bath. He ran and ran, until he turned to Zoe and said "so tired" and asked to be carried.

After a quick bath and a few books, we put him to sleep.

slow down car

Enzo was up early so we took the dogs to the Rose Bowl to play fetch. It's been a while, and they were stoked. When I put Enzo's boot on, he said "i'm a pirate!". Mommy had waffles waiting when we got home. Enzo sat and slurped syrup of a single waffle chunk for about 15 minutes. After breakfast, he saw that mommy and daddy were drinking coffee, so he asked for his own. We gave him a travel mug with some chocolate milk, and he ran around drinking it saying "coffee! coffee!"

Nanny Note: We went to Amys to play but that only lasted 30 minutes. I don't know why. So we came home to watch Ocean Deep. Enzo ate lunch and had his milk and I put him down for a nap. Enzo had a good nap today, and after we played at the park. We swung together and pretended the wood chips were food. I ordered yummy food, and he took my money.

After work, Enzo asked me to watch "frog movie" on my phone. It took me a minute to remember that Zoe showed him a youtube clip of Kermit, so I let him watch Rainbow Connection and It's Not Easy Being Green. We both ate big bowls of bloop soup, and then went for a long walk around the neighborhood. We walked all the way around and back to the house, and then Enzo grabbed his bike, and we went down the block again. I mentioned to Enzo that people driving by should slow down, so he started yelling "slow down car" at everyone who went by.

When I finally tricked him into heading back home, it was almost 7:30. He sat back down for a few more bites of soup, and some red milk. He took a long focused bath. When I tried to read him the panda book later, he pushed it aside and said "read the little monkey book right now".

all about mommy

We bombed around the house a bit, eating breakfast and playing with trains, before we headed out to the dog park. Enzo wanted to "throw ball betty" rather than play in the park. It was a dog poop minefield. On the way home, we stopped at Whole Foods. Enzo ate his way through the store - peanuts, melon, sausage, fruit rollup, pirates booty, cheese, etc...

Back home, we played in the front yard. Enzo wanted to roll around with mommy. So mommy did until she felt sick from rolling around again and again. We ate more lunch in the garage, and even broke out Enzo's old baby bouncer.

Enzo took a nice long nap, and then I took him to park while Zoe made bloop soup. By the time we got home, Enzo was starting to get a bit cranky about everything, and was sort of nuts for the rest of the evening. Enzo ate his soup, and then we took the dogs for a walk around the block.

Before bath, Zoe and Enzo searched for Sesame Street clips on YouTube using daddy's phone, and ate a cookie.

Enzo was all about mommy today. Roll around with mommy, mommy carry me, mommy read to me, where's mommy, mommy sit here. During bedtime stories, he told me to leave the room! Another epic food day also. Literally ate all day long.

four dollars

Enzo woke up at 4:AM crying, and then fell asleep in our bed for a couple hours. When he woke up again, I brought him downstairs. He watched Nemo while Zoe and I got another hour of sleep.

We went to the bakery for breakfast. As we we ordering, Enzo reached into the tip jar and said "want money. four dollars." We went to park to runs arounds, and then after a stop for Jamba Juice, Enzo had his haircut appointment. He did really well. Maybe was the lollipop and the TV on the wall. Another great big boy haircut.

We goofed around in the garage, in this giant cardboard box house, while Zoe fed him some lunch. We put him down for a nap, and slept for almost 2.5 hours. When we finally woke him up, he was super sour. Finally, I took him out for a drive, stopping to pick up a repaired tire and to get some milk. Enzo liked watching the guy jack up the car and put on the new tire. Finally snapped him out of his cranky pants.

Zoe ran out to get some food, and Enzo ate another big meal. He's been eating so much protein the last few days. it's kind of freaking us out. That combined with his waking up at odd hours makes us think he's going through some growth spurt.

After dinner, we went for a long family walk. Enzo wore his backpack the whole way. We went straight up to bath, and then to bed.

The last couple days, Enzo has been saying "yep" and "nope" instead of yes and no. It sounds cute, but we've been trying to correct him. We ask him to say "yes" and then ask him if he understands. "Yep."

Enzo was really cute with Harriet today. He kept asking to hug her all day today.

pickup truck

Enzo and I took the dogs to day care first thing this morning. We were running late, because Enzo slept almost 12 hours last night. We grabbed a coffee and pastry, dropped the dogs, and sped back home to meet Alex.

When Enzo got home with Allie he had a super sleepy face and super sleep hair but was in a good mood. He spied mommy standing at the door and ran as fast as he could to see her and say hi. Mommy fed Enzo some mac and cheese for lunch then they shared a popsicle and an apple on the front steps. Enzo was content just to sit on the front step next to her and talk to the various flies and bees and butterflies buzzing around.

After lunch he and daddy played in the rented UHaul truck and pretended to drive. We played with the water octopus for a while, then took a walk down the street and looked for daddylions. After our walk, Enzo went back inside and played for a long time with his little men, his firetruck and his jeep. We overheard him saying they were "rolling around", "riding on fire truck" and then "bam bam bam" as they pummeled each other. Long gone are the days that his toys just hugged each other. Before daddy took the truck back, Enzo took mommy for another drive.

We picked up some Chinese take out for dinner and went over to Gabeluke's house. As soon as we walked in the door, Enzo started crying and became nearly inconsolable, saying "mommydaddy leaving you" over and over - in reference to last weekend when he stayed over there while we got his party together. We had to convince him that we were staying there with him this time, and he got over it after awhile. He ate an enormous dinner of rice, noodles, chicken and broccoli and got some ice cream sandwich as a reward. He had a lot of fun playing with Gabeluke and all their cool toys.

We got home just in time for bath, books then bed.

rough night

Out of nowhere, Enzo had a terrible night. He was up crying from 2-3:AM and then was up for good at 5:AM. Ugh. Couldn't have happened at a worse time because due to a scheduling snafu, Zoe was post-call and pre-call last night. Enzo was tired and a little touchy this morning. Zoe made fried rice from last night dinner, and he liked that too.

Right before Alex came I heard Enzo go into the bathroom and close the door. I looked in, and he was sitting on the potty. So I helped him out of his diaper, and he sat back down to do his business.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace in the morning. I took him up to Waldorf but I think he was too tired. He didn't want to play with his friends and he began to ask to go back home. I took him home and he was in a better mood. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that I wasn't feeling good so I didnt seem very enthusiastic. We played at the park in the afternoon then watched a little Toy Story.

After work, Enzo and I went to market to meet Wes and Eric. They ran around together some, occasionally stopping by for a bite of dinner. I got Enzo a shave ice on the way out. Back home, Enzo and I rolled around the front yard bouncing the giant basketball of each other's heads. Then we went for a short bike ride. Half way down the bike, Enzo laid down to rest, which he often does. By the time we got back to the house it was nearly 8, so we took a quick bath. He was ready for bed after just two books.
