potty

Enzo slept through the night, which was a relief. We thought he might climb out of his bed in the the middle of the night. He did get up very early, but then mercifully let us get another 30 minutes of sleep after he crawled in bed with us. We just hung around the house this morning. Cereal and fruit for breakfast. Enzo of course had to help cut the watermelon. Enzo made mommy late again this morning because he didn't want her to leave.

Milestones: Enzo used the potty six times today!

Nanny Note: We played with toys, read some books, colored and practiced tracing. We went for a walk then we watched Good Night Gorilla. I read him some books at nap time. He only got out of bed once. I went back up to sit with him and he fell right to sleep. Every time he sat on the potty he did something. Enzo is having a great day!

The first thing Enzo did when I walked in the door was drag me upstairs to show me his new bed and his shark sheet. "Daddy built it", he said. Then we drove over to the vet to pick up the dogs who were getting some shots and a flea bath. He was kind of crazy in the vet lobby. Shouting about the fish tank, and pretending to swim around like a fish. "swim swim swim swim stop! swim swim swim swim stop!" all the while doing this funny crouched walk, waving his hands and arms slowly, like swimming in slow motion.

We got back home, and made a late pasta dinner. He did well with his beefy bow ties while we watched some Planet Earth. A little after 7, we ran down the street to burn off some energy. Enzo took another nasty fall, but this time got his hand out in time and did not head his head, just a scraped knee, no tears. He's doing this funny thing with his arms, swinging them back and forth when he runs. He starts watching his arms instead of his feet, and the swinging throws him off balance.

We went straight up to bath after our walk, and then to bed. Same drill as last night. I read him books until my lantern lost it's charge, and then sat in the dark room with him until he fell asleep at nearly 9PM. It's a good thing that little chair of his is so incredibly uncomfortable or I'd still be up there asleep next to him.

big boy bed

Enzo was very touchy today for some reason, after his great day yesterday. He was sweet this morning with mommy in bed, saying hello to the baby as he does everyday now. We plan to name her Emi, and he refers to her by name now.

We went out for breakfast and it was touch and go the entire time, then we went to the Hollywood farmer's market. The produce is unbelievable right now, but Enzo did not appreciate it. He perked up when we sat down in front of the balloon man and he made him a fish. Coincidentally we sat next to one of his PO classmates.

Milestones: Enzo's first night in his own big boy bed. No more crib for the little guy.

After the market we came home and hung out. We had a snack, played in the pool and made music with his harmonica and violin. At one point he fell forwards in the pool flat on his face, and he jumped up, sputtering and laughing and said, "I'm crazy! I'm kookoo!" He even did the finger motion next to his head for "crazy" He took a bad tumble down the sidewalk and hit his head on the pavement with a big thump. We brought him back inside and put some ice on the giant goose egg that was forming but he recovered pretty easily.

Mommy went grocery shopping while daddy and Enzo put his new Ikea chair together. Daddy calls it, very appropriately, Enzo's "throne", and when Enzo wants the shade to be pulled down, he says, "privacy please!"
Enzo watched a movie while daddy put his new big boy bed together and mommy got dinner together. When he first saw his bed, he yelled, "I'm excited!"

It was tough putting him to bed, though. We did our usual routine of bath, books then teeth. When we turned out the light and left, he totally freaked out and started crying, which he never does. He sounded so distressed that we went back in there. Mommy ended up sitting next to him, talking with him until he finally fell asleep an hour later. he did say some funny things, though - "Lie down, Buzz and close your eyes, right now! (mimicking mommy); "I'm yawning like Totoro"; "Daddy is downstairs making coffee" Hopefully he will get used to his big boy bed soon.

June 28, 2008

big man

Mommy got a phone call from Enzo as she was leaving the hospital this morning at 930 am, asking her to "come home, mommy!" When she got home Enzo and daddy were walking back to the house from a short trip around the block. As soon as he saw her up the street he said, "I see someone!" and ran up the block to greet her. We had fun playing with some fake mustaches when we got back tot he house.

We all went to play miniature golf this morning with Gabeluke and Jack, then had lunch in the clubhouse after. Enzo got to use his fancy new putter, and he was very excited. He managed to make a few good shots, even though he was more interested in picking up the ball to drop in the hole and going in and out of the various little buildings. He ate an entire plate of chicken nuggets for lunch and flirted with the waitress.

We got home just in time for an epic 2 1/2 hour nap for Enzo (and mommy and daddy) When we all got up, we headed out to Ikea for the rest of his big boy bed. Even though Ikea on a Saturday afternoon is sort of a nightmare, we did pretty well. As we were walking around we passed a giant guy pushing his cart. Enzo looked up at him and said to us, "that's a big man!" We were mortified and ran away. We had a nice dinner afterwards at CPK and finished our night with an ice cream cone from Ikea. We got home just in time for bath and bed.

June 27, 2008

from mommy

Enzo was in best mood this morning when he woke up. So cute in our bed with his crazy bed head. Zoe brought him out to see the garbage truck this morning. After stopping at our house, the driver picked up a can from next door, and then backed up to our house, so Enzo could have another close look.

Enzo and I ran the dogs to DDC when Zoe went to work. We stopped for a Jamba Juice and hot dog bagel. And then straight to school.

Enzo had such a good day today. Never asked to go home or got upset about anything, not even a little. He played inside today mostly, explaining that it was hot outside. About halfway through class, Enzo picked one of the baby dolls. I explained to him that he had to very gentle, and he asked if this doll was like the baby in mommy's tummy. I told him yes, and then he walked around to all the adults in the class, showing them the baby. "It's from mommy" he said. "hugging the baby, kissing the baby. baby sitting here" and on and on for about 45 minutes. He also asked if we could keep the baby in daddy's tummy. It was very sweet, and he was soooo gentle with the baby.

After class, the housekeeper was still here, so we to get an order of fries for Enzo. He sat on the potty right when we got home. Was definitly waiting to use it.

Nanny Note: We played with instruments then we had movie day. After nap we watched a little more of the movie then we played with toys. We also played with water outside.

When Alex went home, Enzo and I drove out to get the dogs, and to grab some dinner. Enzo had a nice phone call with Zoe, who is on call tonight. It was late when we got home. Enzo quickly ate some of his burrito, and then upstairs for bath and books.

June 26, 2008

get lost daddy

Enzo slept in this morning, and then cuddled with mommy with his milk and a book. We laid out a blanket and had a breakfast picnic on the living room rug. Enzo wouldn't let Zoe leave for work today.

Nanny Note: We played with toys, read books, sang songs and watched Dem Bones then we played with playdough. After nap we played outside then had snack.

When we got home tonight, both Allie and Enzo were excited to give us news about his potty progress. He was excited to see pictures of his new big boy bed mommy bought today that daddy is picking up tomorrow. He was very happy also about his new shark sheets.

We went to the Thursday market in search of Blenheim apricots for mommy but we didn't find any. Enzo had french fries and a shave ice for dinner. He also found a pill bug, and nice rock to climb up and jump off of (30 times). We ran into two of his new classmates from school.

When we got home Enzo had a quesadilla and a shared a perfect peach with mommy. It was a fun bath, then books and bed. Right before daddy put him in his crib, he giggled and said, "get lost daddy!"

June 25, 2008

nice new school

Enzo woke up about two hours early this morning, and didn't go back to sleep. Mommy asked him to lay quietly in bed with her reading books, because daddy was up early trying to work. Finally, he couldn't stand it and asked for daddy and asked to go downstairs. Zoe whipped up a quick breakfast, and then we went to the bakery for a coffee.

Enzo and I went home and got ready for his first day at Pacific Oaks parent-toddler class we're doing. We have class twice a week for a couple hours in the morning. A lot like Waldorf, but outside and more physically challenging environment. He's doing to 2-yo program there also in the Fall.

He was excited when we got there, and couldn't believe all the great stuff to climb on and play with. I was trying to sit on the side and let him do his thing, but he kept dragging me around to "look daddy" at all the things he discovered. He didn't interact much with the other kids, but was really comfortable with the instructor. He was having so much fun that he skipped group snack. I paid for that later. With about 10 minutes to go, he got very tired and hungry too, and started into his "back home" mode. On the way to the car, I asked him if he fun. He said, "no. cried."

Nanny Note: Before nap we read books. After nap we played at Kidspace. Enzo night be on Channel 4 news either this evening or tomorrow.

When I saw Enzo later in the afternoon, he ran up and said, "had fun at nice new school". He and I ran down the street while mommy whipped up some dinner. After we ate mommy broke out the $12 shave ice maker, she got in j-town. So good. Enzo of course had to "do it self".

We went for another walk to look for Jack and pill bugs. We found neither. Enzo really started to tank on the way home. We poured his bath early but he was exhausted and upset after his big day with two hours less sleep than usual. We managed to clean him up and get him dressed without letting him hurt himself. Once he got his milk, he settled into some new books that Zoe got today. He could barely keep his eyes open for the last one, and was relieved to be put in his crib.

June 24, 2008

pill bug

Zoe got called in last night to the hospital, so I had to explain to Enzo in the morning why mommy wasn't in bed. He wasn't happy about it. He settled down with his milk, but then just got cranky for no reason. Telling the dogs to get off the bed, kicking his blankets around. I asked what's wrong, he said "i'm grouchy".

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace in the morning. After lunch we watched Good Night Gorilla. After nap we watched Patrick and The Hat then we went to the park.

When Enzo came home with Allie today he was very chatty and in a good mood. He told us about his afternoon at the park. Daddy and Enzo were wrestling on the couch, and he got kind of annoyed with me. "Come on Ralph. What's this all about? Let's all calm down". He watched a little Totoro while daddy grilled short ribs and mommy got the rest of dinner ready. He ate a big dinner and was chipper the entire time. After dinner we took a nice walk with the dogs while he munched on a pop. We walked by the Pfleegers to check out their new landscaping and Enzo said, "say hi to Wesley? say hi to Eric?" but they weren't home.

We dropped off the dogs at home and Enzo went tearing down the driveway and the sidewalk. He was hyped up from the pop and luckily we ran into Jack and his dad and the two of them proceeded to run around the end of the street and around one of our neighbor's yards for half an hour. They had matching crocs on, they found matching pill bugs, they chased each other around and were chatting and screeching and had a great time. They were so cute! When we finally scooped him up to take him home for his bath he waved bye to Jack and told us, "had fun running around with Jack!"

We got home for a fun bath, books and bed without any protest.

June 23, 2008

jump like a man

Enzo woke up early this morning, so we took the dogs to the Rose Bowl, while Zoe stayed home to make us breakfast. It was already hot at 8:AM, and Enzo was asking to go home soon after we got down there. After breakfast, mommy had to leave for work. Enzo asked her to stay. Then when I had to leave, he said "miss you daddy", and gave me a hug and kiss.

Nanny Note: We watched Step Into Liquid and Blue Planet. We made an astronauts helmet. At nap time we read books. After nap, we went to Kidspace to play in the river.

Enzo called me a work to ask me to come home right now. So I did.

Mommy and Enzo were playing in the front yard when I got home. I got a big hug, and he told me take my bag off my shoulder right away. We had a quick dinner, then walked down the street. Enzo bumped into Jack, and they talked about Enzo's Harriet t-shirt. When we got back to the house, Enzo climbed up on the planter, and then jumped off. He did this over and over about 20 times, each time saying "jumped like a man" when he landing safely on the ground about 10 inches below.

We watched some Planet Earth, then had a cool bath. Enzo is really into laying down and "swimming" in the tub. He started splashing us, so we splashed him back. He kept saying, "what happened?" when the water hit his face.

He finally calmed down with his milk and a few stories from mommy, and then to bed.

June 22, 2008

global warming

Enzo woke up bright and early but was in such a good mood all day, we didn't really mind. We headed out for some breakfast early but it was already in the 90s by 8:30am. By the time we got home, Enzo was itching to get out his clothes and into Jack's pool. Jack came home with us with his grandma to swim in our pool for a bit.

After that it was quite possibly the laziest day ever. We ichatted with A-ma and Enzo was able to say hello in Chinese to her. When she asked him what he had been up to, he answered, "I peed on the floor and ate all daddy's chips". We tried a little experiment with trying to keep his diaper off and just his underwear on, and asked him to let us know when he needed to go on the potty. He was very good at letting us know...as he was peeing. On the couch, on the floor. Needless to say, the experiment was over in about 15 minutes.

We watched some Planet Earth and some of a surfing movie; we had a picnic in the living room and had lunch; we went in and out of the pool and dove and slid and jumped and swatted bees away. A couple times, Enzo went striaght over the front of his "surf board" and face first into the water. We ichatted a little with Grandma Dee even though Enzo did not have much to say.

Enzo and mommy fell asleep on the couch...unfortunately that nixed any chance of a proper nap later in the day. He got a little crazed as the day wore on but was funny and cute and happy.

Jack visited a little bit later with his mommy and Enzo had dinner. He started asking for his milk a little early so we knew his no nap day was catching up with him. It was an easy bath, books then off to bed.

June 21, 2008

pool party

Enzo woke up in a happy mood this morning. We had the usual family snuggle in bed then mommy made breakfast. We watched a Planet Earth episode we had never seen and Enzo was enchanted by the baby bears and pandas. After breakfast we headed out to run some errands...it was hovering around 95 degrees and only 9:30 am. We were at the Whole Foods fish counter and Enzo saw some crabs in the case and instantly wanted to get a closer look. We got the guy to lift one one out of the ice and show Enzo, who promptly said, "I want to see it with my hands"

It only got hotter and hotter after that. We made it out of our cool, dark house a few times to try to get in the pool only to get chased away by the bees who were interested in the pool water as well. We took a very short walk down the street, and the heat deterred even Enzo who is usually pretty oblivious. He took a nice long nap in his dark air conditioned room.

We had a fun bbq tonight with his best friend from Waldorf, Chloe, and her parents. Mommy made awesome fish tacos and the kids ran around naked in and out of the pool. Wes and her parents came over as well. Enzo and Chloe are amazing to watch together - they have funny conversations, hug each other, kiss each other, generally manhandle each other in a way that would probably make other kids cry, only these two are laughing and carrying on the entire time. So cute.

After everyone left, Enzo ate a second diner of noodles. We had a fun, long, shallow tepid bath then lots of books and bed. Its supposed to be hot like it was today until Tuesday.

June 20, 2008

cutie face

Enzo slept in this morning and when we went in to get him he was standing in his crib quietly waiting for us. We dropped off the dogs and got bagels. Enzo thoroughly enjoyed his hot dog bagel and fruit this morning and was in a fine mood. He went home with daddy and mommy went to a doctor's appointment.

Nanny Note: We played instruments. Enzo played with the harmonica until until he dropped it into the toilet. (Yuck!) We watched There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly the had lunch. After lunch we watched Goodnight Gorilla. After nap, we played int he pool until he got upset over the hose. We went to the San Marino library for awhile.

When mommy got home later in the afternoon, she and Enzo played in his kitchen and drew on the chalkboard, played in his pool and fended off bees with the hose. At one point he looked up and said "want to talk to daddy right now" so they called on the phone and Enzo said, "daddy, come home TODAY. Come home right now. Enzo is talking to daddy" So daddy packed up and came home. The first thing daddy did when he got home was play the harmonica that fell in the toilet. He dropped it as soon as mommy told him where it had been.

We headed out to fetch the dogs and get burritos. It was oppressively hot. Enzo was doing pretty well until he spied a carton of guacamole, at which time he abandoned the burrito and started eating forkfuls of guacamole. In the pet store he spied a little green lizard that was eyeballing him, and said, "hi cutie face!". On the drive home, he asked to have Harriet sit with him, and then asked for Betty.

We stopped at the park on the way home to run around. He got super hot and sweaty in the 15 minutes we were there. We had a nice tepid bath when we got home, then books and bed.

June 19, 2008

agapanthus

We both up before Enzo this morning, but brought him into bed to snuggle anyway. Mommy ran out to grab him some breakfast, but he didn't eat much. Hasn't really for the last couple days.

Nanny Note: We went to kidspace for an hour. At home we played with toys and read books and played with our insect spelling cards. After nap, we watched a little bit of Nemo then we went to kidspace to play in the river. We didnt stay very long, I think it was too hot and and he was not very happy so we went back home. We watched Ocean Deep and colored then we swim at Jack's house.

Zoe was home early and daddy home late. Zoe took Enzo to the market but he said he didn't want to leave the car, too hot. Then they went to the grocery store, but he was nuts, and running all around. When I got home, we got him to sit and eat a bowl of noodles. Enzo told me to get up out the seat next to him, so mommy could sit down instead. He was talking non-stop.

We all shared a cup of chocolate pudding, and then went for a quick walk. We had to stop next door to drop off yet another Amazon.com box that was mistakenly left at our house. I think the UPS guy sees an Amazon box for La Loma, and just assumes it's for Enzo.

Enzo's new favorite word is "agapanthus", and he pointed them as we walked. Enzo ran out ahead as per usual, and then turned to play go-stop. We got back for a late bath time. He was really tired tonight, and was upset about his bath. Before bed, we looked through a book about the Hawaiian Islands. He liked the photos of the baby turtles.

June 18, 2008

come on guys

Enzo woke up crying this morning, "other blankie!" I think he must have had a dream that he lost one, because he had them all right there in the crib. It took me a while to convince him that he had them all, and then he calmed down. We scraped together some breakfast, and then watched some Blue Planet while we waited for Alex.

Nanny Note: We read books, played with toys and watched Dem Bones. We spelled with our card game and played outside in the pool. We read more books before nap and after nap read even more. He likes his Toy Story books. Enzo didn't eat much, he mostly made a mess of his food. We watched Planet Earth and read more books.

When mommy got home from work, Enzo was in a fine mood, running around the house in just his diaper. He immediately took her hand and said, "have to go to the kitchen (his play kitchen). hungry mommy? make you a pizza" then he grabbed his toy boom and said "clean up this mess"

They had a nice afternoon hanging out, playing with trains and reading books and watching a little toy story. He was happy to see daddy when he got home, and we all sat down for a dinner of sliders and salad. Enzo was not particularly hungry, so he spent a lot of time trying to convince us to let him watch a movie. "Want to watch something, guys! Come on, guys." When we said no, he turned to Betty and said, "I'm upset about dinner. Something happened, Betty" then he turned to us and said "I'm upset, guys" We tried hard not to laugh but he looked so serious we gave in and he might have watched a little Nemo on daddy's iphone.

After dinner, we went for a walk and found a cool green beetle that walked up and down Enzo's arm. We trespassed in Jack's yard again and Enzo took another dip in the pool. We got home just in time for bath, books and bed.

June 17, 2008

cello

Enzo slept in this morning longer than he ever has. Zoe was up early to cover a friends call, and I fell back asleep. When I woke up again, it was 8AM. Finally I went in to wake him up at 8:15. He was laying on his back smiling, and he started laughing when I looked in the crib. We barely had time to finish milk before we heard Alex knocking on the door.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace in the morning. We played in the river and watched their new construction site. Enzo didn't really eat much at lunch time so when he woke up from his nap, he said wanted to look for something to eat. I took Enzo to my house to drop off something for Nathan then we came home to play. We watched Bones, he really likes that one.

I fixed Enzo dinner of leftovers and mac-n-cheese when I got home at 5:30. As we say for dinner, Enzo said, "mommy coming home in about two minutes", but I had to explain that mommy wasn't coming home until tomorrow morning. Enzo was upset about that, but he managed to eat a decent meal.

After dinner, Enzo wanted to play the cello, and told me to "clap daddy" after each song.

We went for a short walk down the block to see Jack's pool. Enzo played in it for a minute or two, but then wanted to go back home. He asked me carry him back rather than run all the way like he usually does. Back home we watched some Blue Planet, and then took a bath. He wanted to read Frog & Toad tonight cover to cover before bed.

June 16, 2008

baby sister

Enzo woke up earlier than usual this morning. Perhaps he was awakened by the sound of a raccoon getting trapped. We went downstairs and spied a very cute, very large raccoon in the trap. We ate a nice family breakfast then invited the Pfleegers over to look at the raccoon. When Enzo saw him, he said "hi cutie!" He really was very cute. He got picked up by the wildlife trapping people in the afternoon and go released to a national park nearby. We told Enzo he was taken back to his family. He spent the rest of the morning with a wooden spoon and his guitar, "playing the violin".

Nanny Note: We watched Blue Planet, we played in the pool for a long time. I read Enzo a few books before nap. After nap we went to Kidspace to play in the river.

Enzo came home after mommy and daddy did, soaking wet from his adventures in the Kidspace river. He was in a great mood, "I jumped up and down in the river!"

We had a great dinner - Enzo ate a ton of ribs and broccoli and rice and in the middle of dinner, looked up at mommy and said, 'like it, mommy!" We took a long walk with the dogs after dinner. After our walk it was the usual bath, books then bed without a peep from him. He seemed really tired tonight and quite happy to finally lie down.

Its official - Enzo is going to have a baby sister at the end of the year!

June 15, 2008

daddy day

We went downstairs for a Father's day breakfast after a nice family snuggle in bed. We had cake and donuts and eggs benedict. Enzo really loved his donuts.

After breakfast we spent a long time in front with his Jack pool. We spied some hummingbirds so we went to the garden store to but a feeder; on our way there the wildlife capture people called and said they were on their way to lay the traps so we had to hightail it back. Enzo and daddy watched as the guy laid the traps and fixed the holes. Enzo was following the guy around trying to show him the crab on his shirt.

After that we went out to run some more errands and tried to talk Enzo into test driving a toddler bed. No dice. We had some yogurt and went grocery shopping. In the store Enzo kept saying "Happy daddy day" and giving lots of kisses to daddy.

When we got home it was straight to bed for a nearly 2 1/2 hour nap. When he woke up we headed straight back into the pool. He loves to take off his diaper and lay belly down in the water and say, "Enzo's wee wee under water!" We played in the backyard, and threw the ball and climbed around on the play structure. Daddy killed a black widow spider while he was out there grilling.

We ran inside to watch the last few minutes of the US Open, and Enzo asked to watch the footage of Tiger Wood's final putt of the tournament over and over. "Tiger man!"

We had a nice dinner of BBQ chicken and corn. Mommy even bought little tiny drumettes for Enzo, which he liked very much. After dinner, we walked around the neighborhood with a pop and visited everyone who was out walking their dogs. We heard a coyote on the next block and all the dogs going nuts. "Too many nature," Enzo said about all the wildlife today.

After our walk it was straight to bath, then books and bed. A very sweet daddy's day for Enzo. Daddy has a father's day golf date tomorrow.

June 14, 2008

sour and spicy

For some reason, Enzo was a bit of a pill this morning. His morning started off OK - a snuggle in bed, and iChat with Dee and Buzz. And when we went out to breakfast with gabeluke, and he seemed fine too. But when we went across the street to play in the park, he kept moaning about going back home. We tried to get him interested in something, but he wasn't having it. When Katie asked if he wanted to go on the swings, he said, "i just want to go home". OK then.

He sat on the couch when we got home, and asked to watch something. We tried to ask him what was wrong. He didn't have an explanation, just "i'm grouchy". Zoe asked him if he was sour, and he said "i'm sour and spicy."

We finally got him out of the house, and we went and played in Jack's pool again. He had so much fun that mommy went and bought him one. It was getting close to nap by the time mommy got back. He played for a bit more, and then needed some sleep.

After nap, we played again in the front yard pool. We let him run around naked, and he seemed to like that.

Zoe had a work dinner to go to tonight, so I took Enzo up to see Wes. They were having a little bbq. There a few kids there, but Enzo stayed to himself, playing with the doll house and then running around on the front hill. There was this little gnome in the flower bed that he couldn't stop playing with. When a plane flew by overhead, Enzo help the gnome up so he could too. He did sit and eat a few ribs and some corn. And then half a huge chocolate chip cookie. As we left, he said "bye guys" to everyone, and "thanks for dinner".

He watched Totoro for a minute before bath and then bed. Easy night.

June 13, 2008

quarter

Zoe was on call last night, so after a long snuggle, Enzo and rolled out of bed and straight into the car to take the dogs to daycare. We stopped for a bagel dog and coffee, as per usual. They usually heat it up way too much, so ofc ourse when I asked them not too, it was stone cold. So Enzo ate a bag of chips I found in the car on the drive home. When we got home, he sat and ate his fruit bowl.

Nanny Note: We went to Descanso Gardens for the morning then had movie day. After the movie, we went to play at Kidspace. Enzo didn't eat much today. He only took a few bites of each. We played at Kidspace and then we ran down the street chasing each other with the claw.

Mommy let Enzo drive her car when she got home. He found a quarter in the arm rest, picked it up, and said, "george washington!".

When I got home, I took Enzo out to get he dogs while mommy got some rest. As we walked out of PetSmart, he said "love harry betty". We tried to eat some dinner, but Enzo was more interested in being totally nuts, and jumping off the side table onto the couch.

So I brought him in the back yard to play with the hose and throw the ball for the dogs. We also spent a lot of time climbing around on the playwell. We found a big dead beetle that he couldn't leave alone. He likes bugs. Luckily mommy had just bought a little rubber beetle earlier at the japanese market, so we made the switch.

He continued being totally bananas right up until bath time. Talking non-stop, throwing stuff, flopping around, running and diving into the couch. Just plain crazy.

He finally settled after his bath and a few stories.

June 12, 2008

i'm freaking out!

Enzo gave mommy a kiss or two goodbye, and then I took him to get breakfast. I'm ashamed to say we drove through McDonalds, because we were trying to get home quickly to play with the dogs. I got some breakfast plate and a coffee. The second the woman handed the bag through the window, Enzo said "french fries right now daddy". I handed him a hash brown trying to explain that it's a lot like a french fry just bigger. No dice. We circled the block, and went inside to get a small fires. Unbeknownst to me, they do not make fries in the morning. When he heard the guy behind the counter say there were no fries, he believed it, and didn't mention it again.

Back home, we ate pancakes and sausage and threw ball betty harry.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace. We played in the garden the whole morning then we came home for lunch. I read him some books but it took a while for him to fall asleep. He was up in his room jumping in his crib, I think he feel asleep around 1. After nap, we went to Gymboree to play. Enzo was WILD! We had a good time.

When Enzo saw me come through the door, he ran in circles in the living room screaming. When I knelt down, he circled around and ran into my arms for a big hug. Ugh, it felt so good. Then he pulled away, looked me right in the eye, and said "i'm freaking out!" and laughed.

I took him to the farmers market to meet Eric and Wes, but they weren't there. Enzo walked around looking, "where's eric and wesley?" We usually split a chicken quesadilla, but tonight he ate the whole thing himself. He walked around, mouth stuffed with huge bites, saying "i'm so hungry. i'm so hungry." I got a few looks from the surrounding parents. We sat on the curb watching the bubble guy while we ate our shave ice, and then headed home.

I let Enzo watch a few minutes of Totoro while I ran his bath and took the trash cans to the curb. We had nice easy bath, books and beyond.

Enzo was really sweet tonight. He really wanted to be close to me - putting his shoulder on my head as I carried him, holding my hand as we walked, sitting in my lap while he ate dinner, climbing on me, hugs, kisses, pats on the back, and "forehead". I don't think he went beyond arms reach all night. Little bug.

i'm excited

When I bring Enzo into bed every morning, I give him his milk, and change his diaper. This morning, ENzo said very politely, "no diaper please daddy" which made us laugh. Mommy was out of the house early, so Enzo and I went to Cindy's for breakfast. The whole crew was there. Enzo gave his tired dad a break, and ate a good breakfast.

Nanny Note: We watched Dem Bones, painted, made a bug craft and watched Totoro, then we played outside. It took him a long time to fall asleep today. After nap we went on an errand to Target then we came home and played with toys.

After work, mommy made Enzo's all-time favorite pancetta pasta, and he devoured it. The we went for a walk down the block. It was like any other walk until Enzo noticed a shallow pool and slide in Jack's front yard. He ran up the steps, sat down to take off his shoes, then as he stepped into the pool, he turned to me and said, "i'm excited!". We trespassed for about 20 minutes while Enzo wallowed in the water. He laid flat, saying "i'm sleeping in the water", and then tried to splash me.

Zoe walked home to get a towel, and then we finally dragged him out. His teeth were chattering and his diaper swelled up to ten times it's normal size. We stripped him naked, and Zoe carried him home.

He watched a few minutes of Totoro, then bath and bed.

picnic

Enzo came into bed with us, and it took us a while to extract ourselves and get out of the house. We went to the bakery for the first time in a while. The place seems to be hurting. The cinnamon rolls get smaller and smaller each time, like trying to save money on flour and water. Enzo and I came home to wait for Alex. He sat quietly looking through a book he found in my car.

Nanny Note: We played at the Space of Kids for a while then went shopping at Angels for craft supplies. At home we had a small lunch then we played with toys until nap time. Enzo couldn't fall asleep today. He cried a bit and then after about 30 minutes of that I let him come down to watch the Wheels on the Bus. I took him out again to see if he would sleep in the car (I spoke to soon).

We thought it might be nice to have a picnic in the front yard tonight. Our kitchen sink is stopped up, so we ordered a pizza. It turned out to be pretty hard to keep Enzo in one spot long enough to eat. Inside, outside, out the gate, around the side of house, on my back, running, rolling, jumping. I got a little irritated with him when he ran out of the gate, so I stopped him a told him to go sit and eat. He ran back into the yard, saying "eat dinner! make daddy happy!" Eventually he sat in my lap and ate some dinner.

We took the dogs for a walk, and then came back to watch a little Totoro before bath. He was really sleepy tonight, and seemed relieved when we put him in the crib.

piccolini pasta

We wallowed in bed this morning, and then went downstairs for some batter blasters and fruit. Enzo sat in his chair most of morning, but didn't eat much. He did use the potty this morning again. I feel like he's turning the corner, and will be close by the time the next one comes. Just one kid in diapers would be good.

Nanny Note: We played in the new river at Kidspace all morning. We had lunch at home. Enzo loved the chicken nuggets. We watched about 15 minutes of toy story then i Put him down for a nap. After nap we went out again.

After work, Enzo was actually kind of crazy, and earned himself a timeout for dumping water all over the floor. Maybe he was just a pain because he was hungry. Mommy made him a big bowl of piccolini wheels, and he scarfed them down.

We lured Enzo into the stroller with a chocolate mushroom, and then went on a nice long walk with the dogs. Enzo kept dropping little toys onto the street, asking a minute later "where's my penguin?" Daddy had to walk back and find them.

At home, Enzo watched Alligators All Around, and then took a bath before bed.

June 08, 2008

too many milk

When Enzo gulped down the last drop of his morning milk, he laid back, exhaled, and said "too many milk". Zoe went in early to round on a patient, so Enzo got to eat is fruit bowl and sausage in front of bug movie while I was on a conference call.

When mommy got home, we attempted to drive to a toy store in Montrose, but there was some huge farmers market and no parking, so we bailed. We got a present for Kyle atthe dinosaur shop, and Enzo might have picked another toy as well. "want the surprise right now please mommydaddy"

We didn't have time for a nap, so we went straight to the party. Enzo had a blast running around, jumping on the trampoline, and leaping in the ball pit. He went strong for about 90 minutes before finally crash and burn. We struggled to keep him awake on the way home, and put him down for nap. He didn't sleep long and was upset when he woke up.

We spent the rest of the afternoon just wallowing around the house, playing with betty, and throwing the ball in the front yard. Soon it was bathtime and bed.

June 07, 2008

scary bottom

Enzo slept in this morning and we had a nice family snuggle. Mommy had to go into work so we had a quick breakfast at Cindy's before she left. Enzo and daddy hung out, waiting for mommy to come home. When she got home we played at home for a long time before heading out to buy another birthday present for yet another birthday party tomorrow. Daddy took Enzo across the street to the music instrument shop to look at the violins. Enzo was speechless.

After some lunch, Enzo went down without a fight for a 2 hour nap. He woke up in a bad mood, kicking the crib. He started crying as we went in to get him and when we asked him why he was crying, he answered, "took a poopoo". He was upset about his poop in his diaper.

We played with the dogs in the pool and in the backyard for a while. At one point Harriet jumped in the water with him and laid down. He pointed at her backside and said, "Harry's bottom", and daddy said, "yes, Enzo, that's Harry's bottom." Enzo answered, "its scary" We both laughed out loud.

We took a nice walk then had Indian food for dinner because mommy had to have it for some reason tonight. Enzo took one bite of chicken tikka masala and said, "what IS that?" and would not take another bite. He was happy with his leftover lunch that we scrounged up for him instead.

After dinner, Enzo and mommy watched as daddy tried to lure the giant raccoon out from under the house. After an unsuccessful attempt, we took a nice bath, then books, then bed. Enzo really enjoyed Yertle the Turtle tonight.

June 06, 2008

tadpoles

Zoe was off to work very early this morning, so Enzo and I got in some snuggling time. We went straight from bed into the car, and then drove to drop off the dogs. We got hot dog bagel and a coffee, and raced home.

After work, we grabbed Enzo and went out for a burrito. Enzo told mommy about seeing tadpoles today. When she asked if he liked the tadpoles, Enzo said, "stepped on them!". We were shocked but then he clarified, saying he stepped on the rocks around the stream where he saw them.

Back home, we watched something calm down, and then upstairs for bath and bed.

June 05, 2008

do it self

Enzo slept in this morning, which gave mommy and daddy a much needed extra hour of rest. He came into bed with us like he does every morning now, and he drank milk and cuddled with mommy. We had a quick breakfast, and then mommy was off to work. Enzo and I "played hose betty" while we waited for Alex.

Nanny Note: We played at the zoo until about 12:00, we came home, read books and then Enzo went to bed. Enzo had a good nap, got up ate all his cheese sticks. Boy did he like them, then we went out to play. We met my brother in law and niece and nephew at the space of kids.

Enzo met mommy in the garage with a squeal when she drove up. So excited to see her. We scooped him up and went to the market. It was kind of nuts tonight. So many people. We ate dinner quickly and then got Enzo a shave ice for the car ride home.

We played with the dogs again, and then Enzo sat with mommy to watch the Hat before bath. We read books, and then to bed.

Enzo had to do everything himself today - "do it self!" he says. He put on his shoes, climbed in the car seat, buckled the car seat, and put on his pajamas.

June 04, 2008

harriet

Enzo woke up super early this morning. I shuffled into his room, carried him back into our bed, and then we all fell back asleep for another 90 minutes. Zoe was off early, so Enzo got to eat fried bologna for breakfast.

Nanny Note: We went to Kidspace in the morning to play and have a snack. At home we played outside. Before nap we watched Caves and read some books. After nap we went to play at the park and then to Kidspace too till 5:PM. Then we came home.

When I got home from work, Enzo gave me a big hug, and then dragged me into the living room to "sit with enzo" on the floor to draw with a pen he pulled from my pocket. Then we played bump in the road. I let me watch some bug movie while I warmed up some leftover curry.

Zoe helped Enzo eat a big dinner, and then we went for a walk down the block to return a jet that Enzo borrowed from Jack the other day. We bumped into this old woman who we see walking all the time. Enzo happened to say something about harriet. And it caught her attention, and she said - my name is harriet. We told her we had a boston terrier named harriet. And like every person over 70 I've ever met, she said - oh, I had a boston terrier when I was a child.

We went straight up to bath, and then some books before bed.

June 03, 2008

climb like a monkey

Enzo slept in again and we spent a long time after we brought him into our bed just hanging out. He made mommy read a couple of Little Bear books. When we finally got up, we went out for breakfast at the old standby, Cindy's. We haven't been there in weeks, but the old regulars were there in their usual places. Enzo loved his waffles this morning.

We asked Alex to come a little late this morning because mommy had the day off. She had to rest all day because of her procedure yesterday so she hid out upstairs while Alex had Enzo all day. It was fun eavesdropping on them - they really have a good time together. There was a lot of laughing and screeching going on.

Nanny Note: We played at Kidspace till 11:30 then we came home to have lunch. Enzo didn't really eat much at all. He was was more interested in playing with Buzz and Zurg.

Mommy came out of hiding later in the afternoon to start on dinner and Enzo was happy to see her. They threw the ball for Betty and Harriet and Enzo was in hysterics every time they jumped in the pool after the ball. When daddy got home they had dinner - mommy made Japanese curry rice and even though Enzo proclaimed it "spicy!" he also said "sounds delicious!" when he first sat down at the table. He ate a ton, which made mommy very happy.

After dinner, we played in the front yard with Buzz lightyear and took a walk. He finds sticks along our walks and then plays "violin" with them. We need to find him a toy violin. Then we played in the backyard. Enzo had fun "climbing like a monkey" on the monkey bar.

It was the usual bath, books and bed. He was very sweet and affectionate all day today.

June 02, 2008

other leg

Enzo slept in this morning, and then wallowed in bed until after 8. We'd planned on going out to breakfast because Zoe had the morning off, but Alex showed up at the usual 8:30. So we headed out across town to check up on how the next one is doing.

Nanny Note: We played at the park all morning then we came home to play in the pool. Enzo went right to sleep today.

When we got back from the west side, Enzo was down the street walking with Alex. He had no shirt on.

He came through the door, and was happy to see us both home. We played out back, spraying the hose for Betty, and then came inside to sit with mommy. We sat on the couch to eat dinner, and then ate a popsicle in the front yard. We got a little rough with buzz lightyear, and broke one of his legs off. I thought Enzo would be upset about the broken leg, but what he really got upset about was that I wouldn't let him break the other one off.

We went back inside to watch some bug movie, eat a few more bites of pasta, and then up to the bath. Enzo made Zoe read How Many Fish four or five times, and then he was off to bed.

June 01, 2008

smarties

Enzo had such a great day. He asked for Planet Earth - something we hadn't watched in a long time, so daddy was happy to watch Ocean Deep with him this morning. As he watched, he munched on a piece of donut that the dogs were very interested in.

We started out our day heading out to b.l.d. for breakfast. The last time we were there, Enzo was still taking a 9am nap and we used to eat while he snoozed in his baby car seat. He had fun and ate his breakfast. We were so full after breakfast we abandoned our plans to go to the Hollywood farmer's market and headed home. On the way home, Enzo asked daddy to buy him a turtle and seal to bring home.

We watched some bug movie and rolled around in the living room. Daddy and Enzo went to the park for awhile, then he took his usual weekend epic 2 1/2 hour nap. We woke up just in time to head over to the Metcalf's for Luke's 2nd birthday party.

Enzo had the best time! He loved jumping around in the jumper and wrestling with Gabe, eating cupcakes, whacking the pinata, the big bag of candy he got afterwards, his first-ever Smarties and Skittles, and he loved his matchbox cars in his goodie bags. He told Katie as we left, "thank you, I had a nice time".

He didn't eat much dinner at Gabeluke's, so we stopped to pick up a hamburger and some fries on the way home and he devoured them. We watched a little bug movie, then had a nice bath, some books, then bed.
